1. Does there exist a number of the form 1111..111 that is divisible by 2097? Explain your answer. (2) 2. Alice and Bob are famous business owners. In order to fix a deal they need to meet but because of their tight schedule they cannot spare a time that is suitable for both of them. After running through their schedules, fortunately, they agree to meet on 9 th September and that too in a window of X minutes. Also the one who comes first will wait for only Y minutes at the maximum. They can come at any random time. How probable is it that the meeting will take place? (4) 3. Find all solutions for the non negative integers a and b satisfying the relation a + b = 2009. (2) 4. Vishwanathan Anand while trying to invent some new good chess moves accidently dropped a rectangular photo frame (that he was playing with) on his chessboard. Suddenly it struck to him that how probable is it that the black squares and red squares share the equal amount of board space? Unfortunately he was weak at maths. Help him. (5) 5. If the equation 4 3 + + 1 = 0 has roots a, b, c, d show that 1/a + 1/b is a root of the equation 6 + 3 5 + 3 4 + 3 5 2 5 2 = 0. (5) 6. Alice was once playing with stones on a marble floor. She had a total of 6 pieces and she threw all of them on the floor. She suddenly came up with a test for Bob. She said, The distance between the closest pair of stones is m units and the distance between the farthest pair of stones is M units.

She then asked Bob to calculate the minimum value of M/m. Can you do it? (7) 7. Triangle PQR is isosceles with PQ = PR. Point F on PQ is such that QRF = 15 and QR = PF. Find, with proof, the measure of RPQ. (3)

8. In triangle PQR, |PQ|=|PR|. Points S and T lies on QR such that |QS|=|SR| and |QT|>|RT|, tan(TPR), tan(TPS) and tan(TPQ) form a Geometric progression and cot(SPT), cot(RPT) and cot (SPQ) form an arithmetic progression. IF |PT|=10, compute the area of triangle PQR. (4)

9. Alice had some unknown number of unbiased coins with her (say x). And Bob has one more coin with him than Alice. Alice flips all her coins in one go and observes the number of heads and so does Bob. What is the probability that Alice has more number of heads than Bob? a. 1/2x+1 b. 0 c. 1/3 d. (2)

10. There are M pink and M yellow points on a Cartesian plane such that no three points are collinear. Prove that you can possibly divide the points into M pairs, with one pink and one yellow point in each pair, and no two of M line segments which connect the two members of a pair intersect. (6)
