Technology Year 10 Investigate Rubric

Name: TG: Class: 11 Investigation is an essential stage in the design cycle. You are expected to identify the problem, develop a design brief and formulate a design speci cation. You are expected to acknowledge the sources of information and document these appropriately.

Criterion A: Investigate (Max 6) Use the tick boxes to check if you have completed the work
Description of the identied problem. You must identify, and explain, the problem or (design opportunity). Research Information: Information relevant to your project. It is essential to acknowledge the sources of information and document these appropriately. Design brief: Write a clear statement that explains how you intend to solve the problem. Design specication: A precise and accurate list of facts such as conditions, dimensions, materials, process and methods that are essential for the designer and for the user. Explain each specication clearly. Plan Tests - Identify how you will test your product against the specication - include any questionnaires you may require. Bibliography - Your investigation is completed with a bibliography. Reference all your sources of information. You must use the APA method of referencing. Use the webtool - http://www.bibme.org/ to help organise your bibliography. The problem is simply stated without explanation. The problem is investigated. However, your information has been collected from unacknowledged sources. You have listed some specications. You have a description of the problem and you mention its relevance. The problem is investigated and information is selected and analysed. Only some of the information is from acknowledged sources. You describe a test that will evaluate the product/solution against the design specication. You have explained the problem clearly and discuss its relevance. The problem is critically investigated and you have evaluated information from a broad range of appropriate, acknowledged sources. You describe detailed methods for testing to evaluate the product/solution against the design specication.

Technology Year 10 Design Rubric

Name: TG: Class: 11 You are expected to generate several feasible designs that meet the design speci cation and to evaluate these against the design speci cation. You are then expected to select one design, justify your choice and evaluate this in detail against the design speci cation.

Criterion B: Design Max 6 Use the tick boxes to check if you have completed the work
Ideas - Generate 3-4 feasible designs (ideas that can be carried out with the facilities and time available to you.) that meet the design specication Evaluate Ideas - Each idea is evaluated against each specication - Write notes around your designs to evaluate each idea. Explain each idea as clearly as you can. Select one design Use a chooser chart to identify the best idea. Justify the choice of this idea by explaining why you think it is the best. List your specications and explain how the design meets each specication. Be critical. If the design doesnt meet the specication outline what you could to improve the idea. Develop Ideas - Develop your ideas into a nal design. Sketch, Draw and use models to develop the details of your idea. Explain any changes. One design is sketched and drawn and there is some attempt to justify this idea against the design speci cation. Only a few designs are generated (less than 3). One design is chosen and justi ed. 3-4 The choice is fully evaluated this design against the design speci cation. Your design idea shows some development. You have generated a range of feasible designs (3-4 relevant ideas) 5-6 Each design is evaluated against the design speci cation. You have justi ed the chosen design and evaluated it fully and critically against the design speci cation. Your chosen idea is developed fully into a feasible design based on the facilities available.

Technology Year 10 Plan Rubric

Name: TG: Class: 11 You are expected to construct a plan to create their chosen product/solution that has a series of logical steps, and that makes eective use of resources and time. You are expected to evaluate the plan and justify any modi cations to the design.

Criterion C: Plan Max 6 Use the tick boxes to check if you have completed the work
Plan - Construct a plan to create your chosen product/solution that has a series of logical steps. The plan must include: Description of Task, Materials / Software, Equipment required and an Estimate of the time needed. Plan Evaluation - Evaluate how you think you plan will work. Update the plan and justify any modications to your design. 1-2 You have a plan that contains some details of the steps and/or the resources required. You have a plan that contains a number of logical steps that include resources and time. Your project details some attempt to evaluate the plan. You have a plan that contains a number of detailed, logical steps that describe the use of resources and time. You have critically evaluated the plan and justied any modications to the design.

Technology Year 10 Create Rubric

Name: TG: Class: 11 You are expected to document, with a series of photographs or a video and a dated record, the process of making your product/solution, including when and how you use tools, materials and techniques. You are expected to follow your plan, to evaluate the plan and to justify any changes you make to the plan while you are creating the product/solution. You may embark upon a very ambitious project, or encounter unforeseen circumstances. In some circumstances a product/ solution that is incomplete or does not function fully can still achieve one of the levels awarded for this criterion.

Criterion D: Create Max 6 Use the tick boxes to check if you have completed the work
Document of Creation - A visual record of the process of creating your product/ solution. Entries need to be dated. The record includes : when and how you use tools, materials and techniques. Evidence of using the plan - You are expected to follow your plan - add comments to your plan or tick off completed work. Re-evaluate plan - Evaluate and justify any changes you make to the plan while you are creating the product/ solution. 1-2 You have considered the plan and created at least part of a product/solution. You have used appropriate techniques and equipment. 3-4 You have followed your plan. You mention the modications made, resulting in a product/solution of good quality. You have competently used appropriate techniques and equipment. 5-6 You have followed your plan. You have justied any modications made, resulting in a product/solution of appropriate quality using the resources available

Technology Year 10 Evaluate Rubric

Name: TG: Class: 11 You are expected to evaluate the product/solution against the design speci cation in an objective manner based on testing, and to evaluate its impact on life, society and/or the environment. You are expected to explain how the product/solution could be improved as a result of these evaluations. You are expected to evaluate your own performance at each stage of the design cycle and to suggest ways in which your performance could be improved.

Criterion E: Evaluate Max 6 Use the tick boxes to check if you have completed the work
Evaluate the product/solution - Test your product against the design specication - Use the test that you described in your investigation. Evidence of Testing - Show evidence of testing. Describe the test and record the results. Evaluate views of intended users - Collect information from intended users. Evaluate impact - Evaluate the impact of your product on life, society and/or the environment. Modications & Improvements - Explain how the product/solution could be improved as a result of these evaluations. Evaluate own performance - evaluate your own performance at each stage of the design cycle and to suggest ways in which your performance could be improved.
