The Universe that Isn’t
The Matrix is a 1999 science fiction film that depicts a dystopian future in
which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a neural interactive
simulated reality, a computer-generated dream-world called "The Matrix". This
idea has since become popularized as computer games are increasingly more
realistic leading to what has evolved into the Simulation Hypothesis; which
proposes that all reality, our earth and our universe, is an artificial simulation, akin
to a computer video game, and thus ours is a virtual reality.

This text introduces a Simulation Hypothesis model based on a mathematical

electron embedded within an expanding virtual hyper-sphere. This electron has no
physical dimensions; it can be written on a paper but not 'placed in a box'.
Nevertheless from this virtual electron we can construct our physical universe, the
dimensions of mass, space, time, charge … by dividing this electron into simple
geometrical forms; Mass = 1, Time = 2π, Length = 2π2Ω2…. and then use these
forms to construct the building blocks of our universe (known as the fundamental
constants of physics; G, h, c, e, me, kB).
Curiously, when we study the solution for gravity we find that time jumps in
discrete steps, it does not flow continuously, yet going from „now‟ directly into
„tomorrow‟ without first passing through „today‟ would be called time-travel.
platoscode.com
These jumps are very small, too small to for us measure, but there is no
interval between them which means that after every throw of the cosmic dice all
particles jump 1 space on the universe chessboard. In a real world time-travel is the
realm of science fiction …,

but then perhaps we are not living inside a real world

The Programmer
God vs. science debates tend to be restricted to the premise that God does not
depend on science and that science does not need a God. As science and God are
thus seen as mutually exclusive there are few, if any, serious attempts to construct
mathematical models of a universe whose principle axiom does require a God (the
Intelligent Design premise). However, if there really is Intelligence behind the 14
billion year old universe of modern physics, being the universe of Einstein and
Dirac rather than the allegorical 7 days of creation, and thus beginning with the big
bang, then we must ask how it might be done? What engineering technique could
have been used to set the laws of physics in motion?

Science has a set of mathematical formulas used to describe the universe and
these are commonly referred to as the Laws of Physics. The planets for example
follow predictable paths and so we can calculate what the night sky will look like
in 100 years. To solve these formulas of physics we use inputs such as the mass of
the earth or the electron, the distance from the earth to moon, the strength of
gravity or the ampere and so on ... these formulas often so complex that an
advanced degree is required to understand them, science becoming the priesthood
of the modern world. I use this term because nowhere in these formulas is there a
number that refers to God, there is no 'E = God.c2 ...', for example and so to
platoscode.com
understand the world around us we must instead turn to the formulas of science
and in these GOD has no place. Ipso facto, our technological world needs science
but science doesn't use and so doesn't need God.

This however raises a philosophical question, why do electrons and planets

know how to do whatever it is that they do? Neither the electron nor the moon
would seem to know these laws of physics, they are not 'written in the stars', yet
both electron and moon follow them diligently. Science has made simulations of
our universe, they are incredibly complex and require super-computers to run. This
is because our computer simulated electrons and planets don't instinctively know
what to do, in the background these laws of physics dictate the simulation, moving
those electrons and planets, hence the requirement for the super-computer.

If I am tasked with writing a weather simulation program then nowhere in my

computer program will I appear, the program reading data from different places,
taking wind speed, humidity etc. and then manipulating that data according to
certain formulas to predict the weather ... yet the existence of the program source
code that I wrote is prima facie evidence of the existence of me the programmer.
Likewise although we may not find evidence of 'God' within the laws of physics, if
there is evidence of a source code from which these laws originated ... then this
could be considered as prima facie evidence of “The Programmer”. platoscode.com
In this text I introduce a set of formulas that can construct our physical reality
(our universe of mass, space and time) from simple geometrical forms. The
premise being that the geometry of the electron and proton are such that the
electron is forced to orbit the proton, this orbit a result of those geometries, but
being a regular orbit it can be described using a mathematical formula and thus the
laws of physics (our collection of mathematical formulas) are our descriptions of
these naturally occurring geometrical phenomena, the laws of physics are not the
rules that our world follows, instead they are simply the tool that we use to
describe that world, there is a distinction between formula used to describe the
orbit of the moon and the moon itself.

The more complex our world becomes, as electrons and protons join together
to form molecules and planets, so too the more complex become our formulas. We
can simulate a drop of water but not an ocean.

As noted, recently the Simulation Universe idea, that our universe could be a
form of computer simulation, has become popular, this is formerly known as the
Simulation Hypothesis. The concept being that as computing power continues to
increase, if the simulations we make of our environment will become increasingly
realistic to the point where we cannot distinguish computer games from the real
platoscode.com
world, then we can also question our own reality. Is this universe we inhabit just a
simulation?

The analogy being us as characters within a computer game who are given an
intellect; being an apparent freedom of choice and a learning capability, so that the
game may then play out, presumably with an undetermined outcome (the free-will
condition) or an unknown outcome (free-will perception), furthermore the ultimate
purpose of the game is not revealed to us (the characters).

This however requires that we must perceive ourselves and our simulated
reality as being that of a real physical and material world, and that we are 'given' a
desire to play the game. Furthermore we must take this game with the utmost
seriousness as for us it is literally a matter of life and death.

The question the reader of this text must ask is whether or not the formulas
presented here do in fact resemble a source code and if so, could they then be used
as prima facie evidence of a non-terrestrial intelligence, in other words, could they
constitute in part the Source Code of the Gods.

Plato’s Allegory of the Cave
The Greek philosopher Plato wrote a dialogue, „the Allegory of the Cave‟
(commonly known as Plato‟s Cave), between his brother and Socrates in which he
compared us to prisoners chained in front of a cave wall. Behind the prisoners
there is a fire and much activity, however being chained, they can see only the
shadows of this activity projected by the fire onto the wall in front of them.
Experiencing only the cave wall, they would think that the shadows displayed on
that wall are real and so these shadow images would form their reality.
One day a prisoner escapes from the cave; sees the sun, sky, land outside…,
and returns to tell his fellows of the wonders of the real world. This however
becomes heresy as it challenges their accumulated wisdom, their knowledge and
their cherished beliefs; the walls of their cave. Socrates, who is telling this story,
wrote of the returnee; “would he not say with Homer... better to be the poor servant
of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after
their manner”.
Socrates himself was sentenced to death for “not believing in the gods of the
state” and for “corrupting young minds”.

platoscode.com
In Plato's theory of Forms, he argued that non-physical forms represent the
most accurate reality, and thus Socrates prisoners would mistake appearance for
reality. They would think the things they see on the wall (those shadows) were real;
but they would know nothing of the real causes behind the shadows. Thus when a
prisoner sees the shadow of an apple projected onto the cave wall he will declare
„that is an apple‟, but in reality he is only describing the shadow of the „real‟ apple.
Plato thus argues that the prisoners are using their language to refer to
shadows of the real „things‟ that cast the shadows. When we state
“this is an apple”, we associate the word “apple” to the physical
apple which we hold in our hands, but he argues that we are using
this word to classify an image of the real apple. In Socrates view
our language refers not to the “names” of the physical objects that
we can see but are actually names of things that we cannot see,
things that we can only grasp with the mind, no 2 apples are the same and so the
word apple refers to an apple template, that from which apple-ness derives. We
may eat that which we classify as an apple but the actual word “apple” refers to
something that we have never experienced. Likewise, we may acquire concepts by
our perceptual experience of physical objects, but we would be mistaken if we
thought that the concepts that we grasp were on the same level as the things we
perceive. Ours would thus be an assumed reality.

“Once, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting and fluttering
about, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn't know that he was
Zhuang Zhou. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable
Zhuang Zhou. But he didn't know if he was Zhuang Zhou who had dreamt he was
a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that he was Zhuang Zhou. Between Zhuang
Zhou and the butterfly there must be some distinction!”

The Programmed Universe
In the classical Newtonian view, space was seen as a 3 dimensional structure
within which we find atoms and planets. Time was labeled the 4th dimension and
thus we could define events by giving (3-D) location co-ordinates and by fixing the
meeting time; whether arranging to meet in the 7th floor of a library on 34th and M
street at 1pm or describing the orbits of the planets.
After Einstein introduced the relative as opposed to the Newtonian absolute
universe, physics combined space and time into a 4-D space-time as the means to
explain observed anomalies to the classical world-view.
Later string theories were introduced, offered as a potential solution to the
TOE (Theory Of Everything), but they require extra dimensions of space-time, in
bosonic string theory, space-time is 26-dimensional, super-string theory is 10-
dimensional, super-gravity theory 11-dimensional ...
Conversely the Ancient Universe, being the Universe of the ancient Greek
philosophers and the eastern mystics; ranging from Pythagoras to the Tao, was
described materially in geometrical terms and also symbolically, such symbolism
also frequently expressed in terms of geometrical shapes, and many of these
geometries are still alluded to today as encoding both open and hidden meanings.
platoscode.com
As the model described in this text progressed, although expressed in terms of
the modern universe, axioms began to appear, yet curiously these axioms most
closely resembled the Ancient Universe, although this was not originally intended.
This model could be classified under Mathematical Universe Hypothesis in
the Pythagorean sense and also as a Simulation Universe. It suggests that our
physical universe is an image projected within a virtual universe which both
resembles the black hole of modern physics and the Void of Genesis.
The model is constructed around a hypothesized formula for a
virtual (black-hole) electron fe = 4π2r3 (r = 263π2αΩ5). From this
formula we can reverse engineer the underlying structures of our
familiar physical dimensions of mass M, space L, time T, velocity
V, charge A… Geometrical forms then emerge that resemble shapes
we are familiar with, (point, circle, sphere, torus) albeit they are
only mathematical formulas. They are not of our physical world.
Using these geometrical forms; M=1 (point), T=2π (radians),
L=2π2r2 (torus) …, Pythagoras triangle theorem (a2 + b2 = c2) and
wave addition, I show how we might replicate our physical world
of particles and forces, but within a mathematical framework that resembles a
computer program. I then show how these geometrical forms can be used to derive
platoscode.com
and solve the fundamental physical constants (G, h, c, e, me, kB…) which are the
framework of our physical universe, and it is the precision of these results which
gives veracity to this model for the results are consistent with the latest
experimental values (known as CODATA 2014). Furthermore I require only 2
mathematical constants (alpha and Omega; α, Ω) and 2 unit dependent scalars. I
also replace our mass space time charge temperature units with a single unit u, for
(kg, m, s, Ampere, Celsius) are human constructs and not the units of the Gods.
I thus argue that the mathematics of this text suggests that we are inhabiting a
virtual universe that is evolving according to a pre-determined set of mathematical
rules chosen such that the present universe, from the big bang until today,
including human life, was embedded into the original source code. These
mathematical rules were selected such that these geometrical forms for mass space
and time could ultimately combine to form complex behaviors, we see this in
natural selection, swarm intelligence … and I further submit that we ourselves are
an example. Our physical reality would thus be a projection, such as Plato
described, but within this virtual reality.
But if our universe does resemble a computer simulation, as the mathematics
of this model would seem to suggest, we might then ask; who programmed this
simulation … and equally importantly, why?

Plato’s Cave
This text introduces a model of a Simulation Universe. In the first section,
Parts I & II, I introduce basic concepts behind this model and then look at some of
the philosophical implications.
In the second section, Parts III & IV I expand upon the physics of this model
and go deeper into the mathematics, for without this background the model cannot
be appreciated. I also try to convey a sense or feeling for how the universe uses
this mathematics, for although the geometries described here are quite simple (all
the formulas can be solved with a basic calculator), it will quickly be observed that
they are used in ways that are unfamiliar to us and will require new mathematical
methods to decode.
Consequently there is significant mathematics in this text, this cannot be
avoided for it is the mathematics upon which this theory is constructed, and any
text without a solid foundation is simply a compilation of philosophical musings,
however I have tried to structure the text so that the theory evolves in complexity,
lest I lose readers too quickly. Parts I and II can be seen therefore as the backdrop
to Parts III and IV. Likewise it is the mathematics and not my interpretation that is
important, the reader is invited to draw their own conclusions from the formulas
presented here for the implications of such a model are far-reaching.
platoscode.com
Furthermore, this model implies that our physical reality is a projection within
a virtual reality, analogous to a computer simulation. The text presents geometrical
solutions to common physical phenomena such as relativity and gravity; these
solutions should be seen, not as physical explanations for observations of the
modern universe but as algorithmic (software) routines that can simulate those
physical phenomena. In other words, I am describing solutions to these phenomena
(gravity, relativity, electrons etc.) not from the perspective of a physicist trying to
explain them from within a physical universe, but rather as a programmer who is
assigned the task of applying a mathematical theory to geometrical forms in such a
way that within his universe simulation self-aware organisms can not only emerge,
but that they will then perceive themselves as being within a physical environment
and as having a free-will.

Each formula thus presented in this text thus describes a particular function;
consequently each formula has its own story to tell – and this story is the story of
the universe itself …
