I used this torrent to load Ansys onto MS Vista 64 running on a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp. It works great.

This is a very unusual configuration. If I could get it to work with this, it should be a piece of cake for everyone else. My own instructions follow: Installation Procedure - Ansys v11 SP1 on MS Windows Vista 64 (customized for Vista 64 running on Bootcamp on MacBook Pro) While this process was derived for a MacBook Pro running Vista 64 under a Bootcamp partition, the process for installing on other OS's and systems should be similar. Ansys 11 SP1 is the first version of Ansys that supports Windows Vista 32 and Vista 64 (though some minor modification are required to run the FlexLM license server). Open the ANSYSV11SP1 using PowerISO and run setup.exe which is located in the root directory of the ISO file. Don't worry about setting up the license file at the end of the main program installation process. This will be done later. In the MAGNiTUDE folder, move a110sp1_calc.exe to the desktop and run it. You will be prompted by the command line to have the program create a license file. Answer yes. The cracked license file will appear on the desktop (license.dat). Move the license file to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing You can also create a log file in this same location at this time. This step is not required, but may prove useful. The log file will be used by FlexLM. You can call it log.txt (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\log.txt. Now you are ready to set up FlexLM. The version of LMTools included with ANSYSV11SP1 did not work on my system. I downloaded up to date versions of key components for MS Windows 64-bit from the Acresso website: http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm There are three files you will need (I used the Microsoft Windows 64-bit operating system for the x64 platform - v11.6): x64n6lmgrd.exe, x64n6lmutil.exe, x64n6lmtools.exe. I found that you can also download current FlexLM licensing components directly from Ansys, but I haven't tested these at the time of this writing. Save the new FlexLM components to the appropriate directory locations. The license manager daemon (lmgrd), the license manager utility (lmutil) and the license manager tools (lmtools) all go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\intel. Make sure you use the new LMTools to start the license server. Launch LMTools (right click and run as administrator).

Select "Configuration using Services" under the Service/License File tab. Note that important license information (Hostname) appears under the "System Settings" tab. Also your FlexID should appear as the first Ethernet Address (this is the Mac ID for you machine). Under the "Config Services" tab, set the correct paths to the license manager daemon (lmgrd.exe) which should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\intel (remember to select the correct lmgrd, i.e. x64n6lmgrd.exe). Make sure the path to your cracked license file is correct (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing). At this time, you can also establish the path to the log file you created earlier (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\log.txt). Make sure "Start Server at Power Up" and "Use Services" are both checked. Save your service. Under the "Start/Stop/Reread" tab, you should see the new service you just saved. The default is called "ANSYS FLEXlm license manager". Click "Start Server" to turn on the license server on your host machine. You can confirm lmgrd is running using the Task Manager (right click in the toolbar). Make sure all processes for all users is selected. Note that the license manager daemon is x64n6lmgrd.exe not lmgrd.exe. You can now launch Ansys and Ansys Workbench. At first of all, if you didn't manage to install Ansys so far, ask yourself if you want to use the program. It is a complex program, but useful (that's why you should buy it, straight from the producer and not from a retailer... so people keep on programming useful tools) If you don't know what computers are and how the function, better give up. Computers are just machines that can be fully controlled... So, if you use an anti virus program that starts to scream during the installation, that is because you as user asked that program to do this. You asked the computer to cry when files are activated that might harm your computer. Normally that crying starts when that anti virus program sees a code generator, maybe in combination with using settings that are defined somewhere in that big calculator... I use a different computer for my projects that is not connected to the internet at all, so I don't use a firewall. I don't need to do that. Usage of an anti virus is another story, since I use USB sticks that are used in other computers (read: public printing houses and so on. The chance to obtain a virus over there is big enough) I don't connect my working tool to an overcrowded and dirty network, because then I need to keep my bread making machine clean, and I don't want to waste time with that. At a normal day I have 18 processes running on my machine, sometimes I even shut explorer.exe down if I need more working power (in rest, Ansys consumes already 45 mB of RAM) That was the moral lesson, let's get started. Take a tour at the internet, check what the program Sandboxie does. I use version 3.26, remember that newer does not automatically means better! Download that program, install it and check how it functions (for example: double click at the small icon close to the clock, at the right bottom corner, drag and drop a random folder in this box and a new window will open that has #-marks at the bar on top. Brows to the desktop in that window to the desktop, create a new folder and then return to the "real" desktop. The new folder did not appear there. Close all the windows you made and return to Sandboxie control (that you opened when double clicking at that icon close to the clock.) Click there at the menu item: Sandbox==> DefaultBox==> Delete Contents . Down under there is a button "Delete Sandbox") Steps: 1.) Install Ansys, that should be the first (most up) option. 2.) There comes a notification. 3.) Run license set up if asked for, choose YES if it asks about a server, and YES again when the question comes if you have a license file. 4.)Now comes the big trick: a.) Dismantle the anti virus. (My anti virus was not complaining by the way...) IF SANDBOXIE COMES WITH QUESTIONS, JUST PRESS "CLOSE" b.1) Open Sandboxie Control, browse to the folder "ASA" that you downloaded, drag and drop that folder in Sandboxie, select "asacalc.exe" , copy (control - c) , browse in the Sandboxie to the desktop and paste (control - v). OR

b.2) Browse for the folder "ASA" that you downloaded, right mouse button, "Open Sandboxed" , select "asacalc.exe" , copy (control - c) , browse in the Sandboxie to the desktop and paste (control - v). c.) Run, while Sandboxed, "asacalc.exe" , from the sandboxed desktop. d.) At the question "... for the current host" you say "Y" e.) Wait a little bit, and then press a key, the program should close. f.) Now you are at the Sandboxed desktop, press F5 (refresh) and a file appears (license.dat) g.) Open that file (right mouse button, open with notepad) , select the content, control - c h.) Open a new text file at the un-Sandboxed desktop, name it license.dat, and paste the text inside, and save i.) Now you can dismantle all the Sandboxed issues you created and reactivate the anti virus. If you want scan the computer after the rest of the installation. h.) Copy the freshly created license.dat and put it in the Ansys License Managers sub folder "shared fileslicensing" If you install the main program at the D drive for example, this manager you have to search anyway at the C drive, I mean the drive where windows is installed. If there was one already a license file just overwrite. Going back to the main installation... 5.) Now browse for the file, which you just copied so you know where it is. Most likely, the computer starts to cry now that it is the same file/current file ... Just press okay, the program offers you again to browse, but you cancel! 6.) There comes a question if you want a "survey" , but you don't! 7.) Click finish. 8.) Go to the start menu==> ANSYS FLEXLM License Manager==> LMtools At the first tab: Configuration using Services At the seventh tab: select Use Services and Start Server at Power Up At the fourth tab: press Start Server Now you should have a license up to somewhere in 2017.... A good option is to put the license file as well in a folder named c:flexlm , this is the standard place where the license manager read the settings. Just do it, to be easier logging in later.... Later I discovered to set up the license for unlimited period, I'll try to check how I did it and let you know as well. If you don't want to let the license manager to start up automatically, deselect the related issues as described in point 8, the seventh tab. But then, remember that you have to start up manually before you start using Ansys. You need then to point straightly to the license file as well. Check this out in FLEXLM's manual, you need to make a BATCH file. And overall it results as well in two or three floating command windows. Have fun, maybe it is a good idea to use a good firewall if the computer where this will be checked out is connected to the internet or another network. I didn't try that out (see

reasoning above.) And another tip: If you finally managed, back up the license.dat file, it is specific for your computer, send it to your own mailbox for example! This is the way how I did it. R. PS It took a while when I finally started seeding, I don't know why, but I will find out. As far (15-2-09, 9:32GMT) there are 27 people that downloaded, so it seems to work. If I do major changes to the torrent (useful tutorials???) I start a new torrent and delete this one If people want to add info, don't hesitate to contact me!
