Wayne Tiles Tent Sale

back by popular demand

By Joe Pellegrino Jr.
W
ayne Tile is proud
to announce its
Third Annual Tent
Sale to be held on October 6th
through the 8th. This years tent
sale has significant meaning for
the owners of Wayne Tile.
Coming off a wet summer, our
community has encountered
some real challenges. With un-
precedented rain and flooding
over the past few months, our
brave men and women of the
Wayne Township Fire Depart-
ment have worked nonstop to
help so many. Wayne Tile wants
to give back to them with 10%
of the sales, proceeds. For the
homeowners who suffered dam-
age to their homes, Wayne Tile
is offering a solution with deep
discounts and savings at their
Tent Sale.
For Wayne Tile, the Fire
Department has played a signif-
icant role in the history of the
company. About two years ago
our Wayne storefront caught
fire. If it wasnt for the Wayne
Fire Department who re-
sponded so quickly to the call,
the fire may not have been con-
tained so efficiently, recalls
Michael Westra, owner. We
want to give back to these vol-
unteers for all their hard work
and dedication. These brave
volunteers have given so much
to the town of Wayne through
their service.
This year they are excited
to bring back the Tent Sale by
popular demand. It will be the
BIGGEST tent sale yet, as tile
is a great solution to the wet
weather weve been facing in
the northeast. With the flooring
business being fashion oriented,
new styles and looks literally
change with the seasons. The
Tent Sale is Wayne Tiles oppor-
tunity to sell last seasons looks

be hosting a Disabilities Confer-
ence. Our desire is: To promote
disability awareness in our
churches, to provide biblical
counsel to families with disabil-
ities and to give direction to
those who have a desire to show
the compassion of Christ to the
disabled. Is God leading you to
become involved in this type of
ministry? Do you know those
who would benefit from such a
ministry? Is God opening a door
for bringing the disabled into
your churches? If so, we urge
you to attend this two-day con-
ference. On Friday evening you
will have the opportunity to
join us at our regular Helping
Hands Family Night. Then on
Saturday our Disabilities Con-
ference speakers will address the
challenges which disabilities
present to the disabled, to their
families, and to their churches.

P
icture this, my Grand-
mother Esther was huff-
ing and puffing from
exhaustion, she had run 4 NYC
blocks checking each and every
bank for the CD rates for her
maturing CD and didnt want to
roll it over at a lower yield than
she had before or at her regular
bank if the neighboring bank
was paying more. She eventu-
ally found what she was looking
for, a double digit interest rate
for 1 year with the interest
payable in cash, every month.
The highest rate was critical for
her survival, this was the sum-
mer of 1979, inflation was pack-
ing a wallop, costs of goods and
services were rising sharply and
her Social Security check, in-
cluding my grandfathers, to-
taled less than $700 a month.
His pension was $84 per month
after working 40 years as an em-
broiderer for the Ladies Interna-
tional Garment Workers
Union. They accumulated
$100,000 over their working
lifetime and I remember how
excited they were to receive a
10% rate on their CD. The
$10,000 in annual interest gave
them $833.33 per month which
was critical to their success in
having more money a month!
Im glad they are not alive to see
what a struggle it would be
today to run from bank to bank,
corner to corner, through the
streets of Brooklyn, breaking a
sweat to receive a paltry .8% an-
nual rate of return on their
$100,000 CD for a monthly in-
terest income of $66.66. What
would they do, how would they
live, who would be able to help?
Its sad to think that they would
be better-off getting sick or de-
veloping Alzheimers, con-
demning them to a Medicaid
facility where the government
would provide a roof over their

D
r. Ramtin Kassir, at
Mona Lisa Cosmetic
Surgery Center, now
offers a new method of non-
invasive liposuction known as
Bella Contour. It is a non-in-
vasive cellulite and circum-
ference reduction treatment
program without any down-
time so you can return to nor-
mal activity after treatment.
Imagine, in just three weeks
you can dramatically change
the shape of your body, reduce
the appearance of cellulite,
and tighten up the skin with
this FDA approved treat-
ment. This innovative sys-
tem relies on a combination
of ultrasound technology,
electrical stimulation, and
vacuum massage to remove
unwanted fat from the body
without surgery.
For decades, invasive
surgery was necessary to re-
move fat, but now with tech-
nology Bella Contour
surprised us with dramatic
and thorough results, says
Dr. Kassir. The Bella Con-
tour treatment is truly a revo-
lutionary body contouring
procedure. Our patients expe-
rience an average reduction
of 4 cm (1.6 inches) in ab-
dominal circumference, with
some people reporting up to 8
cm (3.1 inches) after multiple
sessions.
Bella Contour requires
no surgery or downtime. Pa-
tients lie down and relax dur-
ing their treatment. The
device stimulates fat cells and
causes them to release fat
content, which is eventually
eliminated through natural
metabolic processes. The en-
tire procedure takes only 45
minutes and is so comfortable
that it is often compared to
the feeling of massage.
With one treatment I lost
T
he weather is cooling
and it might be time
to pack up shorts and
summer tanks and re-
place them with jeans
and sweaters. Women
looking to update their
denim wardrobes could
be on the hunt for jeans
that best fit their
shapes. With the nu-
merous styles and colors
available today, its
quite possible to find
jeans that fit like a
glove and help you
look your best.
If youre tall: Look for
jeans brands that boast
an inseam size, like the
way mens jeans are
sold. Some manufactur-
ers offer jeans in various
lengths, such as short, average
and tall. You may need a 33-
inch inseam if you are around
6 feet tall.
If youre plus-sized: Select
jeans that streamline the legs
and hips. Boot-cut styles
wont taper at the bottom and
will elongate the leg. Be sure
to fit the largest part of your
body, which could mean
going up a size. But you can
have other parts of the jeans
tailored for a perfect fit.
If youre petite: Although
shorter gals may find jeans
that are cut for petite
frames, often it takes a little
extra tailoring to make
them the right length.
There even is iron-on hem-
ming tape that can make
fast work of hems. Look for
dark-washed colors, which
can make the legs look
longer.
If youre pear-shaped:
Draw attention away from
hips by wearing higher-
waisted jeans that will im-
mediately draw the eye
upward.
If youre ample in back:
Keep stitching minimal and
avoid any extra embellish-
ments on pockets as not to
call attention to your derriere.

utism encompasses a
broad range of brain
disorders that affects 1
in 500 children. Autism Spec-
trum Disorders (ASDs) include
Aspergers Syndrome, Pervasive
Dev-elopmental Disorder Not
Otherwise Specified (PDD-
NOS), Rett Syndrome (which
affects only girls) and autism.
Autism is the third most-com-
mon type of developmental
delay in the United States.
Autism is typically diagnosed
when a child is between 18 and
36 months old. Autism Spec-
trum Disorders impair three
main areas of human develop-
ment: speech, communication,
and social interaction. These
impairments may range from
mild to severe
What Is Autism? Autism
is a spectrum disorder that af-
fects the childs ability
to communicate, process
thoughts, and interact socially.
Autism is characterized by:
Poor language and speech
skills: Children on the autism
spectrum may lack speech alto-
gether or may be delayed in
their acquisition and use of lan-
guage. They may repeat words
(echolalia) in place of normal
verbal communication. Some
children with autism never de-
velop gestures such as pointing
to objects or waving good-bye.
Children on the autism spec-
trum may find it difficult or im-
possible to hold a conversation
or may compulsively steer the
conversation to one subject.
Poor social communica-
tion: Children may demonstrate
no response to verbal requests.
They also may not respond
when their name is called. Sim-
ilarly, they often fail to connect
the names of other people and
they often confuse pronouns.
Almost universally, individuals
on the autistic continuum are
unable to interpret facial ex-
pressions or emotions. They
may establish only fleeting eye
contact. They also often experi-
ence difficulty transitioning
from one activity to another.
Poor social interaction,
repetitive behavior and inter-
ests: Many individuals with
autism lack interest in social in-
teractions. For children, there
can be a lack of imaginative
play and a preference to engage
in repetitive activities for ex-
tended periods of time such as
rewinding videos, stacking
blocks, or lining up toys. Many
individuals on the spectrum are
perceived to be aloof or indiffer-
ent to other people.
What Causes Autism?
The exact cause of autism is un-
known. Currently, re-search is
focusing on whether chemical
imbalances, differences in the
brain, or genetics could be the
cause. A number of other possi-
ble causes have been suspected,
but not proven including diges-
tive track changes, diet, mer-
cury poisoning, vaccine
sensitivity and the bodys ineffi-
cient use of vitamins and min-
erals.
Do Children with Autism
need physical therapy? Children
with autism may manifest cer-
tain physical impairments. It is
common for children to possess
low muscle tone or appear
floppy. Children often appear
to sink into their support and
demonstrate poor posture.
Children with autism also may
demonstrate toe walking. The
child may need to stabilize the
body by walking on the toes to
counteract low muscle tone.
Regardless of the cause of toe
walking and there could be sev-
eral, it is important to seek
physical therapy treatment. The
child can have long lasting or-
thopedic problems into adult-
hood if left untreated. Children
with autism often have a poor
proprioceptive/ vestibular
awareness; poor knowledge of
where there body is in space.
Children often have poor motor
coordination. They may appear
awkward, seemingly careless or
accident-prone. These symp-
toms are often clues to sensory
integration dysfunction. This is
a very common problem and
prevalent in children with
autism where messages from the
senses are not correctly
processed by the central nervous
system. Along with occupa-
tional therapy, physical therapy
can assist in integrating the
senses by improving strength,
posture, balance and the aware-
ness of the body.

M
any patients suffer-
ing with pain are
told their symptoms
are due to pinched nerves.
Unfortunately, pinched nerve is
a poor description of a painful
problem, and does not accu-
rately describe the source or
mechanism of the pain. So,
what is a pinched nerve?
Basic Anatomy...The spinal
cord is the main communica-
tion highway of your nervous
system, sending messages back
and forth between the brain and
every part of your body. It is en-
cased and protected by the
spinal column, a vertical set of
24 bones called vertebrae. At
the sides of the spine between
each vertebrae are holes (fora-
men). The spinal nerves that
communicate between the
spinal cord and the rest of the
body travel through these fora-
men, along with blood vessels,
lymphatic channels and a fat
pad. The nerve itself occupies
only a very small portion of this
space.
Biomechanics...As we walk,
move, twist and bend the joints
of the spine allow normal spinal
motion to occur. Spinal joints
sometimes lose their correct
movement patterns as a result of
trauma, postural faults or repet-
itive stress that cause the spine
to become malaligned. When a
mechanical structure is not
aligned correctly, normal func-
tion is not possible. These
changes in spinal alignment and
joint motion can alter the shape
of the foramen through which
the spinal nerves pass. This can
cause an increase in pressure to
the contents of the foramen, ei-
ther directly (the so-called
pinch), or more commonly by
irritating the contents, produc-
ing inflammation.
Source of the Pain...Except in
cases of severe trauma or ad-
vanced spinal degenerative
change, it is extremely rare that
the nerves passing through the
foramen become pinched to
the extent the compression it-
self is pain-producing. Pain is
almost always the result of:
abnormal mechanical stress
on spinal discs
irritated joint capsules
increased mechanical stress on
ligaments
muscle irritation or spasm
chemical irritation of the spinal
nerves caused by inflammation
within the altered foramen.
Small increases in pressure
on spinal nerves, though not
usually pain-producing, have
been shown to adversely effect
nerve function. This may be
the real danger of pinched
nerves, for the result is a grad-
ual, silent deterioration in the
ability of the brain and central
nervous system to keep every
part of your body working opti-
mally.
Treatment...Clearly, pinched
nerves, whether themselves
the source of pain or not, can

atthew graduated with honors from New York
University in 1997 and began a satisfying career in
orthopedics specializing in spine rehabilitation. Ever
keen to learn and do more for his patients Matthew began
studying diligently for his certification in Orthopedic Manual
Therapy. This training exposed him to the concept of
Maitland Australian therapy, the Maitland Concept is referred
to as a concept and not as a technique. Emphasis is placed
not on the technique of treatment but on a basic philosophy-
a thought and decision making process, involving analytical
examination and assessment on which treatment decisions are
based.
Matthew has also had the thrill of studying with world-
renowned therapists Brian Mulligan and David Butler, further
expanding his clinical skills into more diverse orthopedic and
nerve injury treatments. Not to be missed, Matthew also
trained in the McKenzie Diagnosis and treatment of the spine.
Matthew believes the combination of this training and
education in the Australian, New Zealand and American
treatment strategies have allowed him to provide broader
range of treatment options thereby helping more patients.
Matthew has been a Director of Physical Therapy for 8

Pinched Nerves

H
alloween is a fun-
filled holiday for chil-
dren as well as adults.
However, for your pet, Hal-
loween can be a stressful,
frightening, and even danger-
ous holiday. Your pet depends
on you to protect them, so
please take a few extra precau-
tions to help keep your pet safe
during this Halloween season.
Your companion animal
may look very cute in a cos-
tume, but make sure that it is
not annoying or unsafe for
him. It should not obstruct
your pets vision, or constrict
movement, hearing, or ability
to breathe or bark. Also, check
for small, dangling, or easily
chewed-off pieces on the cos-
tume that your pet could
choke on or may cause harm to
them such as elastic, rubber
bands, or buttons. When buy-
ing a Halloween costume for
your pet its very important to
select the size that matches
your pet.
Do not leave your pets
outside on Halloween. Instead,
keep your pets safely inside,
away from trick-or- treaters
and other Halloween activi-
ties. Your pets will be less
frightened and will not feel
threatened by noisy, costumed
children, plus these ghouls and
goblins can scare pets causing
them to escape from the yard.
It is a good idea to keep your
outdoor cat inside several days
before and after Halloween.
Black cats in particular may be
at risk from childrens pranks.
Its best not to bring the
family dog along trick-or-treat-
ing. Although it is nice for
them to get out and trick-or-
treat with the family, dogs may
become difficult to
handle during the
noise and confusion
of the festivities.
Some children you
meet may be afraid of
dogs, especially in
the dark. Also, take
your dog on his walk
before the Hal-
loween festivities
begin. This will help
keep your dog safe
and calm.
Even the most
social dogs and cats
should be kept in a
separate room, away
from the front door, during
trick-or-treat visiting hours.
Too many strangers can be
overwhelming for a dog or cat
and some children may be
afraid of animals. Also, you
open the door many times dur-
ing the evening for trick-or-
treaters, so be very careful your
dog or cat does not dart out-
side.
Make sure your cat or dog
wears a current animal license
tag or ID tag on its collar or is
micro chipped. If, for any rea-
son, a pet does escape or be-
come lost, you increase the
chances that your pet will be
returned to you if he is wearing
a collar with an ID tag.
Dont share any candy
with pets, especially chocolate.
Tell your children not to share
their candy with the family pet
and make sure
that candy is
put out of reach
after children
return from
their trick-or-
treating adven-
tures. Candy
can be harmful
and Chocolate
is toxic for animals causing
vomiting, restlessness, heart
disturbances, and even death.
If you suspect your pet has
eaten chocolate or other candy
that causes discomfort, consult
your veterinarian immediately.
Throw your candy wrappers
away too. Wrappers and lol-
lipop sticks can be dangerous if
your pet swallows them.
Keep your pet away from
potentially hazardous decora-
tions. Flames from jack-o-
lanterns and candles could
singe or burn your pet. Keep
small Halloween decorations
away from your pet, since they
could cause choking.
Use these tips to have a
festive and safe Halloween.
For more information and tips
about holiday safety for pets,
call or visit your family veteri-
narian. Remember, your vet-
erinarian is your very best
source for advice on keeping
your pet safe, healthy, and
happy!

A
lot of things havent
really lasted in our
area. Every time I
drive down Route 23 with my
dad he always reminds me
that all this used to be farm-
land. And then theres the
ice cream parlor my mother
loved as a kid and the restau-
rant Grandpa always brought
Grandma to. But among the
rubble of mid-century North
Jersey remains a significant
part of the community whose
successes and strengths have
kept it not only standing, but
thriving.
For 45 years, Sensei John
Porta, 9th degree Black Belt,
senior United States repre-
sentative for the Okinawan
Shobukan Karate and
Matayoshi Kobudo Inter-na-
tional organizations on Oki-
nawa, has operated a
successful institute that has
impacted many in the com-
munity. Back in the 1960s,
few people had even heard of
Karate. In fact, when Sensei
John Porta first established
Portas Karate and Kobudo
Academy in 1966, people
thought its oriental-looking
sign outside meant it was an
Asian restaurant. It took
years of demonstrations, lec-
tures and teaching to educate
the public on what authentic
Okinawa Karate was. Today,
in addition to the Wanaque
Avenue headquarters loca-
tion, Por-tas Karate and
Kobudo Academy has a loca-
tion in Wayne, as well as af-
filiate locations in other
states and countries.
This anniversary is a big
celebration for us, said Sen-
sei. We wont have another
celebration like this until
Portas 50th Anniver-sary!
Since its opening, the Acad-
emy has been a center point
for the character-building,
health and self-protection
taught through traditional
martial arts. Add-itionally,
Portas has been the basis on
which special martial arts
programs in the area have
been built, including college
programs curriculums, adult
education and community
childrens recreation pro-
grams. On numerous occa-
sions, Sensei Porta and
members of his academy have
been selected to participate in
international Karate exhibi-
tions as American representa-
tives.
He hopes with this 45th
Anniversary, Portas Karate

continue to have an impact

Wayne Tile Company was
founded in 1955 by Bob Westra.
Over the course of the decade,
Bob and his brothers established
their business by selling and in-
stalling tiles themselves as a
service to builders. Once Wayne
Tile made itself well known in
the construction industry, they
opened a small retail space in
Wayne, NJ. In 1963, the Wayne
storefront was opened at 1459
Route 23 South. But the grow-
ing didnt stop there. By 2002,
Wayne Tile boasted locations in
Sussex County and Rockaway,
with an additional state-of-the-
art warehouse built right behind
the original
Wayne storefront. Today,
Wayne Tile Company is proud
to offer a total of a half a dozen
locations, including their
newest at 50 Spring Street in
Ramsey.
The Wayne Tile Com-
pany is a family company that
has been passed through several
generations. Bob Westra and his
brothers were proud to pass the
reins on to their sons in the
1980s. Bob Jr., Wayne, Don Jr.,
Timothy, Michael, Glenn, and
John, the young kids who used
to play and work at the ware-
houses, are now running the
show. Just two decades later, a
third generation is preparing to
receive the baton. Excellence
has truly run in the Wayne Tile
family. In 2006, the company
was given the prestigious As-
sopiastrelle American Distribu-
tor Award for its excellence in
fair-trade practices and good re-
lationships with Italian manu-
facturers. The award was also
given to Wayne Tile Company
for their preferences in the se-
lection of aesthetic and techni-
cal qualities of Italian tiles and
the volume of importing and
distributing of these tiles here in
the United Sates.
Wayne Tile is located at
1459 Route 23 South in Wayne.
They are open Monday thru Fri-

some trees will offer a beauti-
ful display. The Green Moun-
tains peak in late September
in higher elevations.
Laurentian Mountains,
Quebec: Splendid autumn
images are abundant in
Canada, too. Leaves are cele-
brated every year during the
last week in September at
Tremblants Symphonie des
Couleurs. Peak viewing times
start in the end of September.
Blue Ridge Parkway, North
Carolina: This limited-access
road runs through the south-
ern Appalachian Mountains
from Virginia to the North
Carolina-Tennessee border
and offers great views of fall
foliage.
Allegany State Park, New
York: This far-west region of
New York borders equally
prime viewing areas in Penn-
sylvania. The second week in
October is peak viewing time.
Columbia River Gorge Na-
tional Scenic Area, Oregon:
A special place on the west-
ern side of the Cascade
Mountains, Congress recog-
nized the unique beauty of the
Gorge by making it the na-
tions first National Scenic
Area in 1986. The last two
weeks of October into No-
vember is the best time to
view the colors.
Why Do Leaves Change
Color?
Deciduous trees, or those
that shed their leaves, are
made up of different color
components depending on
their biology. During the
spring and summer, chloro-
phyll, or the substance that
causes the green hue, is in
abundance in leaves. As the
autumn arrives and there is
less available sunlight,
chlorophyll production ceases
and the remaining breaks
down in the leaves. That al-
lows the other pigments in
the leaves to shine through.
This produces the orange,
red, blue, purple and other
shades of autumn.

t our office, we are
always trying to
convince people to
not have surgery for this con-
dition. Lateral epicondylitis,
also known as tennis elbow
in the general population, is
one of the most common di-
agnoses in an orthopedic of-
fice. Most of our patients are
not avid tennis players, but
more typically, hard-working
folks who do a fair bit of typ-
ing at work.
When I first met Mrs. T,
she reminded me exactly of
my third grade school teacher,
part All-American, part
prim-and-proper tea drinking
English lady who you know
did a great job taking care of
her husband and raising her
children. She had been suf-
fering from pain on the out-
side part of her right elbow for
six months. She had put it
off because she didnt want to
make a fuss. Now it had
gotten to the point of hurting
when she carried grocery bags.
It was constantly throbbing at
night. The pain in her elbow
occurred even when she
shook peoples hands. Her job
at the bank required regular
keyboard typing which really
aggravated her pain. I am
just at my wits end, she said.
Mrs. Ts physical exam
was classic for lateral epi-
condylitis of the elbow. She
showed exquisite tenderness
just anterior to the lateral epi-
condyle, painful resisted wrist
extension and painful shaking
of the hand. She also was
negative for a series of other
physical exam maneuvers for
pathology that can occur in
that part of the elbow: a neg-
ative posterolateral rotatory
instability test, neg-
ative crepitus in the
r a d i o c a p i t e l l a r
joint, and a nega-
tive valgus stress
test. X-rays of the
elbow performed in
the office did not
show any arthritis,
and showed excel-
lent joint space
preservation and
alignment.
Mrs. T had
tried physical ther-
apy, and tried various pain
medications but nothing had
provided lasting relief. Two
months ago, she had tried a
cortisone injection by her pri-
mary doctor but this only
helped for a few days. When
we went over everything that
she had tried, I think she
thought that we were going to
suggest surgery because she
looked paler and paler. The
answer that she got was any-
thing but surgery. We ex-
plained to her that many cases
of tennis elbow get better
without surgery. At six
months, there are many
things we should try first be-
fore even considering surgery.
Some patients wait even 9 to
12 months before the condi-
tion eventually improves.
One of the options that
we did discuss was the option
of PRP administration.
Platelet rich plasma, or PRP, is
one of the exciting new ad-
vances in medicine. The pa-
tients own blood is drawn and
processed in a centrifuge sys-
tem. Once the layers of the
blood are separated, the com-
ponent rich in platelets and
the growth factors is ex-
tracted. This extracted blood
component is then adminis-
tered into the region of lateral
epicondylitis. The thinking is
that lateral epicondylitis oc-
curs as a result of diseased ten-
don tissue that attaches to the
lateral epicondyle. The in-
troduction of the PRP stimu-
lates a biologic healing
response, causing the body to
heal itself and the diseased
tendon tissue. In a scientific
study comparing cortisone in-
jection versus PRP, the results
were superior with the PRP
procedure. Furthermore, the
administration of a series of
three PRP procedures appear
to do better than just one.
Mrs. T seemed relieved
to hear that she may be able
to get better without surgery.
We did warn her that there
is pain with PRP
administration and
associated stiffness,
although consider-
ably less compared to
surgery. The first two
PRP procedures im-
proved her condi-
tion, although it was
really the third injec-
tion that made the
biggest difference and
she blossomed like
a flower overnight.
The pain was gone.
She could do all activities at
her job and around the house
without thinking twice. Her
words were I feel liberated.
I dont think anyone likes to
disappoint their third grade
teacher, myself included.

3cm and my abdomen felt
much tighter! I am thrilled
with the results and I already
booked more treatments,
says Marie, a patient of Dr.
Kassir. After their session,
they are free to return to their
daily routine and get back to
work immediately without
any downtime.
Dr. Kassir has tested the
effectiveness of Bella Con-
tour. From his patient studies,
they have found that a series
of 2 weekly treatments over a
4-week period is typically
needed to produce significant
results. This body contouring
system is FDA-approved for
the reduction of cellulite and
has been shown to achieve
circumferential reduction of
at least 4 cm in 92% of indi-
viduals.
In our office, we have
seen great success with this
procedure, Dr. Kassir says.
Our staff at Mona Lisa Cos-
metic Surgery Center tested
the treatment on themselves
and lost a total of 6 inches all
together. Whether patients
are interested in reducing fat
on their abdomen, thighs,
back, or arms, Bella Contour
provides visible improve-
ments after just 1 to 2 treat-
ments. Typically, the more
sessions a patient receives,
the better their results.

heads, 3 meals a day and a TV
to watch. Another alternative,
which has proven successful for
some, would be to gift their
$100,000 CD to their only
child, then rob a bank, get ar-
rested and live for free for the
rest of their lives in jail, encom-
passing the same perks as the
Medicaid facility.
There are other alterna-
tives like moving-in with one of
your children if all of the parties
could agree or they could have
taken in a roommate to share
expenses, they could skip a gen-
eration and move-in with their
grandson and his family or they
could do what Tina and Louise
did, drive their car off a cliff!
That is what the Indians use to
do in the Wild West; when sen-
ior Indians felt they had little or
nothing to offer or help the
tribe, they just wandered-off
into the wilderness to be eaten
by a bear or other wild animal
or cat. But, were Americans
you say and we dont do that!
Well, let me ask you? Is there
much difference between let-
ting our senior population exist
in a nursing home until they die
or going-out to pasture (a form
of suicide) to extricate them-
selves from society? In the
movie, Logans Run, the senior
citizen problem never existed,
because when you reached a
certain age you were killed-off as
not to be a drain on society in
any way. If I remember cor-
rectly the age was 24!
How much better life
would be, in retirement, if we
could all be millionaires when
we arrived! This is the myth
that was compounded and rein-
forced by the government, our
school systems and our employ-
ers. Dont Worry, Be Happy!
We were never taught the im-
portance of self-funded retire-
ment planning and we were
never taught how to properly
withdraw an income from our
retirement portfolios. Further-
more, we were never made
aware of the costs, sacrifices, re-
quirements, discipline, choices
and the tools necessary to secure
a fully funded retirement pro-
gram. We were never taught
where to invest or how or how
much was necessary and at what
rate of return. Some people will
be luckier than others inherit-
ing a large sum from their par-
ents;others, might have done
well in business or the stock
market, securing their own re-
tirement, yet many, might end-
up like the native Indian,
contemplating their last dinner
and conversation before deter-
mining the best time to move-
on and walk away from the tribe
to die.
In thinking about these al-
ternatives, where do you place
yourself? Could be scary to
think about it? Yes, trust me; its
scarier to actually be forced to
make such choices. The better
answer is to admit to yourself
that your government, your
schools and your employer let
you down, then plan to have a
successful retirement in spite of
those handicaps. Learn the
strategies, techniques and con-
cepts that, when applied, will
carry you toward financial suc-
cess. It is never too late to learn
and apply the lessons to your
portfolio regardless of where you
currently stand financially. Bet-
ter late than never is the most
appropriate mantra at this time.
In every adversity, there is
a seed of equal or greater oppor-
tunity and its your job to seek
it, find it, nurture it and grow it
into prosperity. Since we do not
know when our last day will be,
we can assume we have a
decade or more in front of us to
fulfill our quest of becoming fi-
nancially independent. If not
for ourselves, then for the other
special people in our lives.
They will ultimately benefit
from your toil and sweat if you
cannot. I wish my father had
built-up a fortune for me, but,
alas I must create up a fortune
for my children, without his
help. I have learned from my
parents lack of proper attention
to their financial responsibilities
as they never saved or invested
enough and today they are pay-
ing the price for their serious
mistakes!
Think about this for a mo-
menteveryone in life is exactly
where they planned to be. If
you planned to be financially
free and worked your plan, you
will arrive at your destination

alloween is the per-
fect holiday for kids,
providing them a
unique opportunity to dress
up in costume and scour the
neighborhood solicitin
treats.
But as all parents know,
kids eventually grow up, and
some begin to grow out of
their love for Halloween ear-
lier than others. Some say so
long to Halloween as early as
their tween years, giving
Moms and Dads more evi-
dence that kids grow up
quickly. For parents of tweens
who still like Halloween but
might be growing apart from
some of its traditions, con-
sider giving kids the following
spooky books this fall.
Dare to Be Scared, by
Robert D. Dan Souci. A col-
lection of frightening stories,
this popular series of books
utilizes suspense and drama to
w e a v e
some frightening tales young
readers are sure to love.
The Empty Mirror, by James
Lincoln Collier. When Nick
casually walks by a mirror and
notices he no longer has a re-
flection, hes forced to figure
out what is going
on while living on his uncles
wooded New England estate.
Suspense and mystery com-
bine to create a tale no
younger reader can resist.
The Haunting of Alaizabel
Cray, by Chris Wooding. Set
in old London,
this spooky
tale follows
wych-hunters
Thaniel and
Cathaline, who
come across the
Alaizabel Cray,
who is possessed
by an evil Thaniel
and Cathaline
must figure out.
Lord of the Flies,
Willing Golding. For
older tweens, this
classic story about a
group of shipwrecked
boys on a deserted is-
land is a startling por-
trait of human nature
thats sure to keep kids turn-
ing pages no matter how
much they fear what awaits
them on the next page.
Twilight, by Stephanie
Meyer. For the few tweens out
there who have yet to see the
blockbuster movies inspired
by this wildly popular tale of
a teenager falling in love with
a vampire, this is the first
book in a series tweens love
to read and then watch on
the big screen.
The Death Collector, by
Justin Richards. Three teens
join forces against a London
madman bent on reanimating
the dead. A suspenseful
thriller kids wont want to put
down until they know what
will come of Eddie, George
and Elizabeth.

homes to make improvements
that will increase the value of
the property.
A home equity loan is also
known as a second mortgage.
Homeowners borrow money by
leveraging the equity in their
homes. Equity is the amount of
ownership value a homeowner
has in a property. It is calculated
by subtracting the unpaid mort-
gage balance and other debts on
the home from the propertys
fair market value. Its important
to note that some home values
decrease during times of eco-
nomic downturn. Therefore,
homeowners should do their
homework prior to starting any
improvements to determine if a
home equity loan is a good idea.
There are two main types
of home equity loans: A fixed-
rate loan or a home equity line
of credit.
With a fixed-rate loan, a
lump sum is provided to the
homeowner, which is then re-
paid over a set period of time
with a fixed interest rate that is
agreed upon by the lender and
the lendee. The payment and
interest rate remain the same for
the life of the loan.

choose a home equity line of
credit, or HELOC, it is like they
are using a credit card linked to
their homes value. Borrowers
are pre-approved for a set
amount against which they can
borrow. Monthly payments may
vary and the interest rate is
based on the current interest
rate, meaning it can fluctuate.
Home equity loans typi-
cally offer interest rates that are
lower than those linked to
credit cards or offered with
other types of loans. The inter-
est paid on these loans also may
be tax-deductible. Home equity
loans are a good choice for re-
sponsible homeowners who
have the means to repay the
loan. They can be a pitfall for
borrowers who overspend and
need creative financing meth-
ods to pay off outstanding debt.
Using a home equity loan
to make a home improvement
should be done carefully. Finan-
cial experts say that the loan
should only be taken if the ren-
ovation will add value to the
home. Cosmetic changes and
personal additions, such as a
swimming pool, may not justify
the cost of the loan.
Individuals can talk with a
personal savings bank, the com-
pany that holds their mortgage,
a credit union, or another finan-
cial institution to determine if a
home equity loan is the right
choice in this current market.

Heres My Testimony
I was seven years old the youngest of seven
children born to Pasquale Liberatore and
Filomena Capra, growing up in the small town
of San Polo Matese, Provincia Di Campobasso,
Italy, when Jesus revealed Himself to me in a
dream. I was standing near a well with my
friends when I suddenly was pushed down and
had to find my way out. I remember I was fright-
ened, but there He was 12-year-old Jesus stand-
ing by a carpenters bench with His father,
Joseph. Josephs head was bowed, while Jesus
smiled at me. I woke up frightened but trying
to analyze this dream that had such impact. I
later learned in the Bible of the significance of
the well where God spoke to Hagar, the mother
of Ishmael, where Isaac met Rebeka, where
Moses met his wife, where Jesus spoke to the
Samaritan woman. Now I was anxious to learn
more and through recurring dreams and visions
that followed in years to come, I would leave
my Catholic upbringing to be born again. At
this moment a supernatural event takes place
within a person, the old heart and human spirit
being replaced by a new creation.
In January 1987, I had just begun my real estate
career. I was broken, divorced since 1984 and
would face another divorce two years later that
left me devastated and humiliated. On the out-
side it looked like I had it all together, as I was
a single mom blessed with beautiful precious
daughters. We lived in a large beautiful home
in an upscale neighborhood. I was a PTA Pres-
ident, active in various organizations, as well as
a campaign coordinator for a gubernatorial race
and a CCD teacher. Nevertheless, underneath
that facade, I felt hollowness in my heart. I felt
vulnerable. I felt alone. One night after putting
my three daughters to bed I went to my room,
closed the door and fell to my knees. I humbled
myself to God and prayed a simple prayer:
God help me. Not my will, but let Thy will
be done for me. I pray you give me the
wisdom, the courage, and the strength to do
Thy will.
I cut the chains of bondage that were hold-
ing me back when I surrendered my life and my
will to God. Now my heart is filled with peace,
joy and self-confidence.
My Outer Body Experience
One dreary rainy Sunday morning I got up
to go to church. However, I was still a little
sleepy so I closed my eyes and suddenly saw my-
self walking with Jesus in an open field, of beau-
tiful green grass and gorgeous blue skies. As we
were walking I turned my head to look back, I
noticed walking behind us was a tall elderly
man dressed in a long white robe, with white
hair, white beard and the most peaceful look on
His face, especially His eyes. His face was so
peaceful it had radiance to it. I snapped back
into my body, with such peace within me. That
Sunday morning I got dressed and went to
church, the Community Church of Smoke Rise
in Kinnelon. I walked in and sat in a pew next
to an older woman who had her head down and
looked very sad. Then she leaned over to me
and said, What perfume are you wearing? You
smell so good. You know when you walked in
you were like a burst of sun. I didnt feel good
but now I feel good. The elderly woman con-
firmed that I truly was in the presence of God
and Jesus in that beautiful peaceful garden.
Private Baptism:
God breaths His Holy Spirit
One morning I was taking a shower and as
I was showering I decided I wanted to totally
cleanse myself of all the filth in my life. So I
took the shower hose and started cleaning my
entire body of all the sin in my life. That night
I had a dream, Gods face came upon mine and
He breathed into my mouth; I felt like a small
stone was blown out of my body and it irritated
me. The following morning, as I woke up I felt
the same irritation inside my body as I did when
God breathed into mouth and it lasted for one
week. God breathed His Holy Spirit into my
body.
As an infant I was baptized by man. As an
adult I was baptized by God.
I was born into a catholic family; I was
baptized a few days after my birth. At this bap-
tism the priest breaths upon the child while
reciting the formula of exorcism to cast out
Satan and breaths the Spirit of God into the
child. This time God performed the exorcism.
God said, Then I will sprinkle clean water on
you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you
from all filthiness and from all your idols. That
night God blew out a heart of stone to replace
it with a heart of flesh. God breathed His Holy
Spirit into my body. I now have a better under-
standing of my catholic faith and my personal
relationship with God, my creator and Jesus
Christ, my savior.
God Comes Down to Earth
About two thousand years ago God came
down from heaven to enter the womb of a
young virgin named Mary. God condensed
Himself to a seed to grow inside the body of a
young girl. He was born in a stable. God grew
from a baby, to adulthood, to the cross. The
reason God reduced Himself to one of us is be-
cause He wanted to experience the same birth
pains of life on earth that we go through. This
is the reason why God, when He was hanging
on the cross in the body of Jesus was able to say:
Father, forgive them; for they do not know
what they are doing. We who believe Jesus
Christ is the Son of God. He died for our sins.
He Rose from the dead. Have eternal life.
God Calls Me to Go To Israel
Paul Crouch, president of Trinity Broad-
casting Network, was advertising a tour to Israel
of which I was considering however, the news
medias daily coverage of the violence in Israel
caused me to have some reservations. In fact, I
was concerned for my safety and thought of
cancelling the idea of going on this trip. One
night in my sleep I heard a very soft gentle
voice calling me, Rita, Rita, I started to open
my eyes but I couldnt open them to well, while
squinting I turned my head and there was the
image of God reflected on my armoire. The
exact same image I had seen in the garden and
the same One breathing into my mouth spoke
to me and said, Rita, I Am God. I immedi-
ately sat up on my bed and said, Yes God, I
will go to Israel. At that moment a peace
came over me and I was no longer afraid to go
Israel.
Baptized in the Jordan River
Public Baptism
On May 13, 1988 I was baptized in Israels
Jordan River during a pilgrimage led by Paul
Crouch. At the end of the day, while driving
back to our hotel, the group started singing.
They sounded like a choir of angels. I closed my
eyes and, in a vision, I saw myself walking with
Jesus in an open field, as if I were having an
outer-of-body experience. It was a beautiful
clear day, with blue skies, lush green grass, and
pure white clouds and this time Jesus took my
hand and escorted me to God. I was thinking
to myself, What is He doing? I cant touch
God. Once we approached God, Jesus placed
my hand in Gods hand and the three of us were
holding hands as we walked around in a circle,
singing the same song the group was singing on
the bus. Then Jesus released my hand and
placed it in Gods other hand. At this point it
was just God and me going around in a circle
singing, but I couldnt bring myself to look up
at Him, and when I looked up - God was smil-
ing at me. I saw, in my vision, two lines of peo-
ple. Jesus was leading one line by the hand and
I was leading the other line. We were all singing
as we pass by God, who was standing in the
middle of the two lines and - SMILING!
JOHN 14:6 - Jesus said, I am the way, and
the truth, and the life; no one comes to the
Father, But through me.
The two lines symbolize two groups: The
Holy Spirit filled Jews and Gentiles entering
the Kingdom of God. (Two loaves of leavened
bread)
First fruits among His creatures. Fall Harvest to
be fulfilled.
Jesus is the first fruit among His creation.
Spring Harvest fulfilled by Jesus.
God called me to go to Israel to be bap-
tized in the Jordan River as my public testimony
to the burial of my earthly body and I was born
again with the Spirit of God dwelling in me.
All born again human beings have the Holy
Spirit of God living in them.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that
He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life.
Are you ready for the rapture? You know it
can happen at the blinking of an eye and unless
youre sealed with the Holy Spirit you cannot
enter the Kingdom of God.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but for
obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus
Christ.
Jesus is the only way we can enter the pres-
ence of God! I am a witness to JOHN 14:6

FALL HARVEST
The dead in Christ and we who are alive are the first fruits among His creatures. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, But through me.
At the end of the war of Armageddon; Jesus brings us back to earth to reign with Him for one thousand years. MILLENIUM! SABBATH REST!
Fullness of Gentiles
Jesus said: In that day you shall know that I am in My Father and you in Me, and I in You.
We dont know the day or the time however, the signs of the time reveal the coming of our Lord: False prophets, wars, famines, earthquakes, fires, floods, the Gospel will be preached
in the entire world via television, radio, missionaries, godliness and apostasy. These signs will increase in intensity and severity as the tribulation approaches,
much like the birth pangs or contractions of a pregnant woman worsen as the delivery time approaches.
E
ach year, home-
owners spend bil-
lions of dollars
improving their homes.
While those improve-
ments are intended to
improve the home for
all its residents, such im-
provements are also in-
tended to increase a
homes value.
Projects that con-
tribute the most to a
homes resale value are
the most attractive.
This years Cost vs.
Value Report from Re-
modeling magazine ex-
amines the relationship be-
tween remodeling costs and re-
sale value. The following
projects were some of the best
for homeowners looking to im-
prove their home and the
homes resale value at the same
time.
Entry door replacement
(steel): Removing an existing
entry door and replacing with
a new 20-gauge steel door
proved to be a homeowners
best friend, recouping 128.9
percent of its cost at resale.
Among midrange projects, this
one recouped the most money
by a landslide.
Attic bedroom: Converting
an unfinished attic space to a
15-by-15-foot bedroom and a
5-by-7-foot bathroom with a
shower also proved worthwhile
to homeowners. Such a project
recouped 83.1 percent of its
$49,000 price tag at resale.

Getting back your bucks; Home improvements that yield good returns

Minor kitchen remodel: For
homeowners looking for
smaller-scale projects, a minor
kitchen remodel, which in-
cludes installing new raised-
panel wood doors on cabinets
and drawers as well as replac-
ing older appliances with more
energy-efficient models, boasts
a smaller price tag and a solid
return. The project, which
costs roughly $21,000, re-
couped 78.3 percent of that
cost at resale.
Backup power generator: Per-
haps in light of the headline-
gripping natural disasters and
storms of the last decade,
adding a backup power genera-
tor also proved a worthwhile
investment. The project in-
volves adding a backup system
with the capacity to provide 70
amps of emergency power.
That project recouped nearly
59 percent of its initial cost at
resale, making it one of the few
projects that saw its cost re-
couped figure increase from
2008-09.
Siding replacement (fiber-ce-
ment): Among projects cate-
gorized as upscale, no project
fared better than siding re-
placement (fiber-cement)
when comparing recouped val-
ues. Replacing existing siding
with fiber-cement siding thats
factory primed and factory
painted recouped almost 84
percent of its initial cost at re-
sale.
Window replacement: Re-
placing 10 existing 3-by-5-foot
double-hung windows with in-
sulated, low-E, simulated-di-
vided-lite vinyl windows are
also a good bet for homeown-
ers looking to improve their
home and its resale value. Also
considered an upscale project
in spite of its relatively low
price tag (roughly $14,000),
this project recouped an aver-
age of 79 percent of its initial
cost at resale.

and probably on time. Con-
versely, if you had no plan and
are nearing, entering or are al-
ready retired and are under-
funded, you are exactly where
you planned to be!The problem
was initiated because nobody
told us how imperative it was to
save, invest and prepare for our
financial future. Just interview a
few people in their 60s and 70s,
asking them if they could have
saved a little more during their
working years; ask them if hav-
ing an extra $100,000 today
would have made a difference?
Ask them if they would have
lived on less to designate $30
per month in their thirties to
improve their 70s? Would that
have reduced their standard of
living to any significant degree?
Would their answers inspire you
to learn from their mistakes? I
hope so! Today is the first day of
the rest of your life; if you be-
lieve this, then you also believe
in second chances and now is
the first day of your second
chance to get it financially
right, for the rest of your life!
With that thought in mind,
may I encourage you to call me
for an appointment, so I can
offer you a little help and guid-
ance in your quest! As always, I
never charge a fee for an ap-
pointment, so there is nothing
to lose and everything to gain
for you, your spouse and your
family! We are having a work-
shop series on ways to allocate
your portfolio during rough eco-
nomic times Oct 25th 26th and
27th, so call to get involved and
to benefit!
To my Jewish readers; may
the New Year bring you, your
family and the world Peace,
Harmony, Happiness and Good
Fortune.
