Bloodborne Pathogens Training

Some basic information about bloodborne pathogens and their transmission:

As the name indicates, bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms in the blood or other body fluids which can cause infections and diseases like aids, HIV, HBV and many others. There are different channels through which one can get infected like an accidental injury with some object contaminated with pathogens e.gs needles , scalpels ,broken glass, blades etc. Sexual contact, open cuts skin abrasions are also some ways in which the pathogens can enter ones blood stream. It is important to mention that these diseases are not essentially transferred by an infected person through coughing, sneezing or by using their equipments (toilets, showers etc). There are many other everyday situations in which people are exposed to such pathogens. The people most vulnerable to these pathogens are the ones working in blood related occupations. People all over the world are suffering from bloodborne pathogens everyday without knowing it and this ratio is increasing. It is very necessary to control this ever increasing number of diseased people. People should be properly educated about the transmission and prevention of such diseases. Much work has been done in promoting knowledge about bloodborne pathogens. Different training programs have been organized to educate people about such hazards so that they may be better able to know how to avoid exposure to such pathogens.

The training: A proper training about bloodborne pathogens is now, in fact, legalized. Bloodborne pathogens training is the constitutional right of people working in the blood exposed occupations to get the training. The training should be provided free of cost by the company and should be accommodated in the work hours. The training holds a legal value because of the ever increasing number of deaths and diseased people due to bloodborne pathogens every year. The training includes an introduction to blood borne pathogens and diseases caused due to them, preventive and precautionary measures and other relevant things such as the extent of danger etc. The training should also deliver information to the exposed personnel about the vaccination procedures, modes of transmission, controlling procedures, signs and labels.

Where can one get it? The Bloodborne pathogens training is available on a lot of websites online. While selecting a website for online training, one should make sure that it is

comprehensive and genuine. IT should be according to the standard provided by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). One should also be able to get a copy of the OSU Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Controlling Program.
