Participants wanted for Young Curators

What is it? Young Curators is a project run by Leeds Met Gallery for 16-19 year olds who are interested in following a career in the arts. We are looking for between 10 and 15 people to take part this year. What does it involve? You will attend a series of talks, workshops and exhibition visits. You will learn about curation, project management, critical writing and marketing. Then you will use your experiences to devise and organise an exhibition of your own, supported by staff at Leeds Met Gallery. Visits will include venues such as Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Art Gallery, The Henry Moore Institute, Impressions Gallery, Project Space Leeds plus two cities further afield such as Newcastle, Manchester or London. Talks will be from curators and other arts professionals. When is it? The project will run over 3-4 months from winter 2011 on a regular evening each week plus weekend visits. When we get in the applications we will work out which evening is best for most people. How do I apply? Fill in the application attached application form and return it to the address given by Friday 7th October. We dont expect you to write long, clever answers, just be honest about the kind of things you are interested in. Why should I take part? Young Curators is a lot of fun; participants will visit exciting exhibitions, meet new people, work collaboratively and find out what its really like to work in the arts. It is a great project to put on your university application form if you plan to study art or a related subject.
