October 05, 2011

Name:Assini
Reflection:This project was difficult, but also fun at the same time. It was difficult for me to find the items in the field, but it was also a fun challenge to try and find them. I learned that geometry is all around us, just waiting to be found.

Location: Football Field Description: The pylons in the end zone to this football field represent a coplanar. A coplanar is 3 or more points or 2 or more lines that lie within the same plane. There are an infinite number of points or lines that are coplanar to each other.

Location: Lowes Description: The back side of the Lowe's sign in Latham represents a scalene triangle. A scalene triangle is a triangle whose three sides are different lengths. No matter what kind of triangle, its interior angles add up to 180 degrees.

Name:DeLutri

Reflection:I learned that even everyday objects can be geometry shapes. I felt that this project really helped me remember geometric terms such as Hexagons, Collinear Points, and Obtuse Angles (the terms that I chose).

Location:My basement Description: For Collinear Points, I chose my distortion pedal. It has three buttons in a row and in a straight line. Therefore I drew a straight line connecting all three to make Collinear Points.

Bonus

Location:My Basement Description: For my bonus on the project, I felt it was the easiest since it was my option to choose my own geometric term. I then chose the obtuse angle because of the shape of my guitar. Next I edited to photo I took of my guitar to make it more clear that it was an obtuse angle and submitted it as my bonus to the project.

Location:My Kitchen Description: For a Hexagon, I chose one of the cups from my cabinet. On the bottom it is in the shape of a hexagon. I then edited the photo to make it more clear that it was a hexagon and submitted it as part of my project.

Reflection:One of the main things that I have learned is that almost everything has a shape which we dont always notice. The coffee table in my house is an example of intersecting planes which I never noticed before. Since doing this project, hopefully i will take more notice of the shapes that I see everyday.

Bonus
Location:Livingroom table Description:This brown coffee table has shelfs that cross through the main support, which illustrates intersecting planes. Intersecting planes are when two planes meet in a single line. An interseting fact is that two planes always intersect in a line as long as they are not parallel.

Location: my bedroom Description:My bedroom door has a pannel of a square within it. A square is a parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles. All four angles of in a square are always 90 degree right angles.

Location In my bedroom Description: This Steelers license plate is an example of a rectangle. As you can see, this is a parallelogram with four right angles. An interesting fact about the rectangle is that opposite sides are always parallel.

Reflection:I learned a lot from this project. I never noticed how many angles and lines are in my life. Without lines and angles, most things would'nt look the same. This project was very fun and creative. I hope to do more projects like this, this year in geometry class.

Bonus

Location:living room Description: The tubelight from my living room represents a straight angle. Straight angle is an angle with a measure equal to 180 degrees. People sometimes say, "You did a complete 180 on that! What they mean is that you changed your mind, or idea completely.

Location : brother's room Description: This is my brother's tv cabinet door which represents an acute angle. Acute angle is an angle less than 90 degrees but more than 0 degrees. When we look at the letter V, we see an acute angle.

Location:My friend's home Description: One of my friend's fans represents an angle bisector. An angle bisector is A ray that divides an angle into two equal parts. If a point lies on the bisector of an angle, then it is equally distant from the sides of the angle.

Reflection:This project has shown me that geometry plays a very important part in our everyday lives. There is geometry all around us!

Bonus Location:Parking lot of Clifton Country Mall Description: The outline of the yield sign is an example of an equilateral triangle. An equilateral triangle is a triangle with three equal sides. Fact: Because it also has the property that all three interior angles are equal, it really the same figure as an equiangular triangle.

LocationIn my living room (Plnes of my picture window) Description: These lines represent the intersection of planes. The intersection of two planes creates a line. Fact: Two planes cannot intersect in more than one line.

Location: Description:The outline of the roof of my house represents a trapezoid. A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides, called bases. The non-parallel sides are legs. Fact: The parallel sides of the trapezoid are called bases and the nonparallel sides are call legs. But in an isosceles triangle the legs are of equal length.

Name: Falace

Reflection: By doing this project, I learned that math really is everywhere. Also, I learned that mostly everything is made up of angles.

Bonus

Location: Bedroom Desk Description: An angle is any two rays that share a common end point. In this photo, each part of the picture frame shares a common end point. There are many different kinds of angles and also, all corners are angles. Location:Halway Description:Parallel lines are on going lines that never cross, just like a doorway. Parallel lines NEVER meet. They also always point in the same direction.

Location: My Bedroom Description:A radius is a straight line from the center of the clock to the outside of it. The plural form of radius is "radii". Also, the radius is always half the diameter of a circle.

Name: Ketter

Reflection:i learned that shapes and angles are all around us. we just have to use our creativity to find them.

Location:my dinning room Description: i used the cookbook stand in my dinning room to represent a line perpendicular to a plane. a line intersecting a plane and making right angles at the point of intersection is perpendicular.

Location: my room Description: I used my ceiling fan as an example of perpendicular lines. perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect. At their intersection they form right angles.

Name: Klinowski

Reflection: What I learned from doing this project is that geometry is everywhere! Shapes, lines and figures make up everything in our lives!

Location: Telephone wires Description: Skew lines are lines that do not intersect and are not coplanar. The picture of the telephone Bonus wires has multiple skew lines which are great examples. Skew lines are very unique because they are not parallel and not intersecting.

Location: A desk

Location: Dumbell Description:A hexagon is a polygon with six sides. The picture of the 10 pound dumbbell has six sides which is a great example of a hexagon. Hexagons are the most commonly found polygons in everyday life.

Description: An obtuse angle is an angle with measure between 90 degrees and 180 degrees. The wooden desk in the picture has an obtuse angle side which is a real life exaple of an obtuse angle. The exact measurement of this angle is 112 degrees which is greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees.

Reflection:I realized that math really is everywhere in my life and I'm happy that i can finally recognize it. I see things in a different way and I can recognize how things work now.

Location: aunt amys wedding Description: A Ray is a part of a line consisting of an endpoint and the set of points on the other side of the line. It is named by the end point then another point on the line. These flowers were an example of a ray because they start with a point and gradually move up to meet another point. This line would be called line A B.

Location:I actually just thought it was funny when we went on a trip and then i realized i could use it! Description: A linier pair is when the exterior side of an adjacent lie on opposite rays. These always add up to 180 and are supplementary. I used the harryman sign because the ground is at a 180 degree angle and the sign breaks it into to halves, making it a linear pair.

Name: Memon

Reflection:I learned that shapes are all around us. We might not think about it but they are EVERYWHERE.

Bonus

Location:living room Description: The angle of the triangle on the guitar is an acute angle. Acute angles are angles that are less than 90 degrees. Acute angles are all around us from computers to beds.

Location:bedroom Description: The shape of the pillow is a square. Squares have four sides and all of them are the same length. Squares are everywhere around us and are the second most common of all the shapes, after rectangles.
Location:living room Description: The shape of the tissue box is a rectangular prism. Rectangular prisms are 3D rectangles. A picture shows the top, front and side of it.

Name: Minnick

Reflection: I learned from this project that you can find some of the simplest shapes and forms in the world if you look hard enough. Also that the principles of creating structures is based off of many different forms.

Location: Side of my house Description: Many houses are based off of cubic forms. This is considered a cube due to its same length of sides. Also every angle is equal to ninety degrees. The definition of a cube is a six faced form with equal sides and all angles are equal to ninety degrees.

Location: Front Sidewalk Description:This segment of sidewalk represents a rhombus because every side is equal. Also a rhombus has one set of acute congruent angles and a rhombus also has one set of congruent obtuse angles. This makes up the definition of a rhombus and holds all of the criteria to be a rhombus.

Name: Ndagire

Reflection:i have learnt that geometric figures and shapes are all around us. They could be common house hold items or things we pass by everyday when we are in the car or on the bus.

Location: In my house

Bonus

Description: This picture of a dresser with circular knobs is an example of a line segment with a midpoint. A midpoint divides an angle or segment into two congruent angles or segments. A mid point is also one way of how a radius can be determined by connecting one edge of a circle to its midpoint.

Location: In my house Description: the picture of a can is a very common house hold ,real life cylinder. A cylinder is a solid geometric figure with straight parallel sides and a circular or oval section. A cylinder has a pair of parallel planes with its one circle at the top and its other on the bottom Location: A Parking Lot Description: The tire is a great representaion of the term diameter. A diameter is a line segment that passes through the center of a circle. A diameter is twice the size of a radius of a cricle.

Corresponding Angles

Reflection: "I learned everything in our lives use geometry. From doors to table lamps and rollercoasters, everything has some form of geometry.

Location:Back of my house Description: Corresponding angles are two or more angles created by a line intersecting a pair of parallel lines. These angles will either be congruent or supplementary. In my picture they are both. In my picture, the window frame in the door creates many angles , in which all the angles are equal.

Location: Living Room Description: The wall of my living room is a plane. A plane is a flat object in whish all of its sides extend in all directions. My wall represents a plane because as far as i can see , it extends in all directions.

Reflection:-I learned that geometry is everywhere around us in the world, but sometimes we cannot see it. -I learned that geometric terms sometimes have more then just one purpose.

Location:Outside Description-To get alternate interior angles, there must be two parallel lines with a transversal cutting through them. -If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of consecutive interior angles formed are supplementary -There can be more then one number in the interior angle for example, x(7-2)

Bonus

Location: Outside Description:-Right Triangles have a 90 degree angle. -Two right triangles make up a shape called the square. -No matter which way you turn the right triangle, it always will have a 90 degree angle.

Location: outside Description: -Parallel Lines never intersect -Parallel Lines go on forever -Parallel Lines can be formed when a plane is perpendicular to another plane.
