Who Are We?

The Lancashire Sinfonietta is one of the finest chamber orchestras in the UK, featuring musicians from orchestra such as the Hall, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and many more. The orchestra aims to bring world-class music to local communities. With over 15 years experience in delivering music education projects, the orchestra is particularly specialized in Early Years and working with primary schools. The musicians are highly trained with excellent experience of working in formal education settings and will work closely with each individual school to get the maximum benefit and enjoyment for all your students.
An absolute pleasure, everyone worked so hard to make it happen!! A Creative Learning Project for Key Stage 2 (2012) Workshops
Schools will work alongside experienced musicians during 3 half-day workshop sessions.

In these workshops, pupils will:

The Lancashire Sinfonietta have created a special project for schools to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Give your pupils the opportunity to experience this story in an exciting and stimulating way. Facilitated by the amazing professional musicians of the Lancashire Sinfonietta, students will explore their own musical potential as they create their own piece of music retelling the story of the Titanic. The project will run over 3 days, building up towards a final memorable public performance.

Explore sounds, rhythms, codes and musical terminology Create their own graphic scores and sound-scape compositions Improvise and experiment with sounds and rhythms Use codes as a way of composing Create and read graphic scores Learn by linking literacy, history and music Be introduced to musical vocabulary and forms Develop problem solving and social skills through group work

Performance

Following these workshops, schools will have the chance to perform their own work at a professional venue alongside Lancashire Sinfonietta. This will be a large-scale regional performance involving participating schools.

Learning Objectives

This project uses cross-curricular links between history, literacy and music to guide pupils through their own magical retelling of the Titanics fateful voyage.
