Module D (Multimedia Production and Web Authoring): Personal Portals

Personal portals are gaining increasing attention from Internet content providers and surfers. A user can
customize a web page hosted by a personal portal publisher (e.g. Xanga.com) to include information and
materials according to his/her own needs or taste. The web page may then act as the entry point for the
user to access various resources on the Internet.

Candidates are required to


(1) Discuss what features/technology should be provided by a personal portal publisher to facilitate
user customization and how these features/technology should be evaluated. Study and compare the
features/technology offered by two existing personal portal publishers.
(2) Suppose that your school would like to set up a personal portal for each student.
y Propose the features/technology that should be provided for the students to design their own
student personal portal. The proposed elements should contain multimedia materials and
interactive features.
y With a preset profile of two or more students, design a personal portal for each student which
includes the proposed features/technology and illustrate the layout of the design in the form of
web pages.

Suggested time allocations for Part (1) and Part (2) are 30% and 70% respectively.

個人門戶越來越受到互聯網內容提供者及瀏覽者的重視。用戶可在一個寄存在個人門戶出版者
(例如: Xanga.com) 的網頁內自訂按其需要或品味的資訊和材料。然後,此網頁便可成為該用戶
在互聯網上接達各種資源的入口。

考生須:
(1) 研討個人門戶出版者所需提供之特點/技術,以幫助用戶自訂網頁,並探究如何評核這些特
點/技術。研究和比較兩個現有的個人門戶出版者所提供的特點/技術。
(2) 假設你的學校正準備為每個學生設置一個個人門戶。考生須:
y 建議一些需要提供予學生製作其個人門戶的特點/技術。所建議的元素須包含多媒體材
料及互動特點。
y 以兩個或更多既定的學生概況, 為每個學生設計一個包括所建議元素的個人門戶,並用
網頁形式將設計佈局展示出來。

建議完成 (1) 和 (2) 的時間分配分別為 30% 和 70% 。

The coursework assessment is treated as a separate paper (Paper 3) of the examination. The contribution
to the final subject mark is 20%. The language medium of the coursework report should be the same as
that of the written examination (English). All candidates and members of staff concerned must be aware
that candidates are forbidden to indulge in any unfair practice, e.g. plagiarism in the preparation of
assessments required for the coursework assessment, as these assessments form part of the examination.
When there is sufficient evidence to support an allegation of cheating or of dishonest behaviour in the
assessment, the candidate will be liable to disqualification from the current CE Computer and
Information Technology Examination or the whole of the current CE Examination.

The coursework includes the final product in the form of CD-ROM together with a written report.

Mark allocation is based on the following nine categories of assessment. The full mark is 100. Category
1 to 7 should be shown explicitly on the written report.
