on September 21, 1892, the rocket became the very first electric tram to hit the streets of Montral. The electrification of the network was completed on october 27, 1894.

1919
The companys first bus in 1919. The many level crossings on Bridge Street led to the adoption of buses, which were more flexible than trams.

The craig Street Terminus, on present-day St. Antoine Street west, in 1932. once the networks hub, this building was demolished in 1980 to make way for the Palais des congrs.

1937
A trolleybus in front of the companys youville shops in 1937. Midway between a tram and a bus, this mode of transportation was used on only four routes before being withdrawn in 1966.

A string of trams on windsor Street (present-day Peel Street), at the corner of St. Antoine Street west, in 1947. That year, the company handled a record 398,349,773 trips.

1951
A canadian car-Brill bus passes a tram on Jean Talon Street west, in 1953. The Montral Transportation commission (MTc) took ownership of the network on June 16, 1951.

the end of an era

1959
The companys last tram is parked in the Mount royal sheds on August 30, 1959. This Presidents conference committee (Pcc) vehicle was first put into service in 1944.

executive committee chairman lucien Saulnier and Montral Mayor Jean Drapeau tabled the preliminary plans for the Mtro in october 1961. line c, or line 3, would never be built.

an enormous constructIon sIte

The tunnel bored through the bedrock between crmazie and Jarry stations. construction work on the Mtro began on Berri Street on May 23, 1962, and employed over 5,000 workers.

The company also handled bus service in Longueuil between 1931 and 1986, to Mirabel International Airport from 1975 to 1984, and in certain Montral-area municipalities from 1980 to 1985, in addition to operating commuter train service on the Montral/Deux-Montagnes and Montral/Rigaud lines from 1982 to 1996.
