Student-Teachers Prayer

Dear God, I want to teach my students how to live this life on earth, to face its struggles and its strife and to improve their worth. Not just the lesson in a book or how the rivers flow, but to choose the proper path wherever they may go. To understand eternal truth, know right from wrong and gather all the beauty of a flower and a song. For if I help the world to grow in wisdom and grace, then I feel that I have won and I have filled my place. And so I ask your guidance, God, that I may do my part for character, confidence and happiness of heart. AMEN

Personal Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, I have certain ideas which guide my actions towards students. I believe that students have many outstanding qualities. These qualities include inquisitiveness and interpersonal skills. Developing and

extending these qualities are the duties of a teacher. The beliefs which guide as a teacher are student centered learning and adapting to students.

Student centered learning is my guiding principle. The student needs to have an active part in his/her learning. Students need guidance to develop the tools for student centered learning. As a teacher, I help them to develop questions to ask history and help to make them see the value of education and social studies. The student needs to find the "meat" of the information. By finding the information, students can transfer these skills to places beyond social studies.

Teachers need to adapt to students. It is not my goal to change the way students learn but rather to change the way I teach. To make learning accessible, teachers need to give the students every opportunity to learn in different learning styles. Teachers should develop ways to engage students. By using the different types of learning styles, teachers are able to reach many students. Each topic should use a variety of learning styles. As a teacher, I will use many different techniques to reach the students.

Teachers need to incorporate different strategies for student work and have student centered learning. During my student teaching experiences I have

striven to include my beliefs about education. I believe students have the right and the ability to know.

Philosophy of Teaching

Education has always been very important to me, and this has been embedded into me since I was young. I have always loved to learn new knowledge and for me being able to teach others would be both rewarding and satisfying. I believe that teaching is the career that I want to pursue. I believe I would successfully fulfill the requirements and responsibilities that come along with teaching.

Teachers have a very important role in the community and they should therefore fulfill it to the best of their abilities. They plant the foundations, I believe, of what society is and will be based on because teachers are educating the children of tomorrow. Teachers take on many and varied roles, and have many responsibilities which I believe I could fulfill.

In order to be a successful and effective teacher, I believe it is important that we have a philosophy so that our teaching is purposeful and gives us a clear direction to improve on our teaching. For me, I believe that it is important to establish an environment and a relationship with children where they can feel safe, comfortable and are able to be encouraged to push themselves to the best of their abilities in all learning areas. Teachers need to continuously update and revise their teaching philosophy and teaching methods as to give children the best opportunities for education as possible.

Okay now class, What can you say about the song? Does it tell us something important that we have already forgotten to do nowadays? How could you say so John?

Sir, eventhough the song is very short, but I guess its full of emotions. Because sir I noticed that the song has a lot to do with our love for our family, that the real meaning of family is all about loving each other, and nowadays kissing and hugging our parents or family members are not being practiced anymore.

That was a very good explanation John, you know what class the song simply tells us something that we should always consider for us to keep our family or relationship with others intact, sometimes showing affection/love towards a person makes him feel that he is appreciated and there will be feeling of belonginess and love. What else have you noticed which made you conclude that the song is all about love? Everybody had just sung very well, its now time to improve your pronunciation more... Concept/Objective: Dynamics/To hear and learn or review dynamic levels and their corresponding symbols.

Song: Deck the Halls Welsh Folk Song.

Activity: Teach the above song and review or introduce the symbols p (piano), f (forte), and < (crescendo). Ask students to read about the symbols in their books and find the symbols in the song. Listen to the recording so that students can determine which symbol means loud and which means soft. Also ask them to listen for what happens under the crescendo. Play the song again and have students spread their hands far apart as the song gets louder.

Additional ideas: Have the students make up their own dynamic directions for Deck the Halls and then sing it with these new dynamic directions.
