Overall Purpose: Over a two-year period identify and work with ethnic minority groups and the gay and lesbian community, within the catchment area of South Thames Crossroads, to identify the barriers faced by older carers in these communities accessing generic support and develop strategies for the recruitment of former/current carers to provide peer support volunteers and referrals to the mentoring project from these communities Principle Roles and Responsibilities Service 1. Develop a strategy and work plan for the Identification, tracking and engagement of older carers from ethnic minority groups and the gay and lesbian community within the catchment area of South Thames Crossroads 2. To recruit volunteers from diverse backgrounds within the target communities, including former and current carers, for the Volunteer Mentoring project 3. Act as a facilitator to develop peer support groups of carers and former-carers ensuring that the groups become self supporting 4. Work with ethnic minority groups within the borough to identify older carers and former carers who may benefit from the project as clients Page 1 of 4

5. Work with the volunteer mentors to facilitate their access to training opportunities as necessary 6. Operate the assessment and reassessment process for clients within South Thames Crossroads guidelines. 7. Allocate clients to volunteer mentors and co-ordinate the service to best meet the needs of the client 8. Undertake individual supervision and appraisal for the volunteer mentors and provide ongoing support on a day-to-day basis. 9. To identify and be aware of the particular needs of older carers and formercarers from the specific communities General: 10. Participate in South Thames Crossroads supervision and appraisal system. 11. To compile and maintain accurate records, service data and reports on service, submitting these as required for monitoring purposes both internally and externally to funders and as appropriate to other partners 12. Develop and operate the project in line with the recommendations set out in Investors in Volunteers 13. Facilitate specific relationships with other voluntary groups in the community who represent/support the target client group 14. Work in partnership with the Carers Hub Lambeth 15. To be aware of own training needs and attend study days as requested. 16. To represent and promote the aims and objectives of South Thames Crossroads 17. To be self supporting administratively 18. To attend and contribute to team, supervision and other relevant meetings 19. To act at all times in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures 20. 1.7 Unless the nature of the position allows Crossroads Care to ask questions about an applicants entire criminal record we only ask about "unspent" convictions as defined in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. 2.0 TRAINING 2.1 We ensure that all those in Crossroads Care who are involved in the recruitment process have been suitably trained and have adequate support and guidance to enable them to identify and assess the relevance and circumstances of offences. We also ensure that they have received appropriate guidance and training in the relevant legislation relating to the employment of ex-offenders, such as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. 3.0 INTERVIEW 3.1 At interview, or in a separate discussion, we ensure that an open and measured discussion takes place on the subject of any offences or other matters that might be relevant to the position. Failure to reveal information that is directly relevant to the position sought could lead to withdrawal of an offer of employment. 3.2 We make every subject of a CRB disclosure aware of the existence of the CRB Code of Practice and make a copy available on request. 3.3 We undertake to discuss any matter revealed in a disclosure with the person seeking the position before withdrawing a conditional offer of employment. 3.4 Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar anyone from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of the offences.
