Linux se ha consolidado en los ltimos aos uno de los sistemas operativos ms eficientes en el mbito de Internet y continua incorporndose como una solucin en muchos entornos empresariales. La Escuela Politcnica del Ejrcito a travs del Centro de Transferencia y Desarrollo Tecnolgico busca preparar a estudiantes y tcnicos para que enfrenten con xito los retos de la nueva economa y las exigencias que impone a las empresas el manejo adecuado de las tecnologas de la informacin. Como parte de su inters en la adopcin e implementacin de software libre, en un trabajo conjunto con la industria del software libre, ha sido creado el Programa de formacin LPI Linux Professional Institute para el Manejo y Administracin de Sistemas GNU/Linux. El programa proporciona conocimientos como: instalacin y uso diario del sistema, configuracin de servicios TCP/IP, seguridades en redes y firewalls, compilacin de kernel, manejo de servidores web, integracin con sistemas Windows (TM), entre otros. Los sistemas de software libre, y en particular GNU/LINUX, han sido impulsados con gran entusiasmo por importantes lderes en las tecnologas de la informacin como IBM. Conciente de la importancia que han tomado los sistemas GNU/LINUX y de la necesidad de encontrar personal capacitado, el programa ensea los conceptos suficientes para obtener certificaciones internacionales como las del Linux Professional Institute [http://www.lpi.org].

DESCRIPCIN El programa est diseado para certificar las capacidades en administracin comunes en cualquiera de las distribuciones de los sistemas operativos Linux y sus herramientas asociadas. La certificacin ha sido diseada para ser neutral a cualquier distribucin, siguiendo las pautas de Linux Standard Base2 y otros estndares y procedimientos comunes que sean relevantes en el sistema. El primer nivel de certificacin requiere que se presenten los exmenes 101 y 102; para aprobar el LPIC-1 el candidato debe ser capaz de: Trabajar con la lnea de comandos de Linux. Realizar tareas de mantenimiento bsico. Asistir a los usuarios Agregar usuarios a un sistema mas grande Respaldar y restaurar informacin Instalar y configurar una estacin de trabajo (incluyendo interfaz grfica) y conectarla a una LAN o a Internet mediante un mdem. Administrar un sitio web. Administrar y mantener una red mixta (Microsoft Windows y Linux) que incluya: un servidor LAN (samba), Internet Gateway (firewall, proxy, mail, noticias), Internet Server (webserver, FTP server).

LINUX ESSENCIALS Duration 30 hours Purpose The purpose of this course is to teach the students how to install, configure and use Linux on their personal workstation, so that they can use this system for their daily work. Audience This course is designed for students with little or no Linux knowledge or experience, who want to make a start with Linux. LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION I Duration 30 hours. Purpose The purpose of this course is teach experienced Linux users the techniques, methods and policies used in Linux System Administration. Audience The intended audiences for this course are experienced Linux users who want to become the administrator of one or more Linux servers. LINUX NETWORK ADMINISTRATION I Duration The duration of the course is 30 hours. Purpose The purpose of this course is to teach TCP/IP network configuration and administration including the skills necessary to begin implementing and using PPP, DHCP, electronic mail, static and dynamic routing, DNS, NFS and NIS. LINUX AS A WEB SERVER (APACHE) Duration The duration of the course is 30 hours. Purpose This course is designed to teach the student how to install, configure, and use the Apache package, to provide Web services for intranet and/or Internet networks. Audience The typical student will be a Linux system administrator who needs to provide Web services for an Intranet and/or Internet. Other candidates will be management professionals requiring knowledge on how Web servers function. Prerequisites Familiarity with UNIX commands and Web browsers is required. Knowledge of HTML and databases would be helpful, but is not required. LINUX INTEGRATION WITH WINDOWS Duration The duration of the course is 30 hours. Purpose This course is designed to teach the student how to install, configure, and use the Samba package to share files and printers from a Linux system on a Windows-based LAN. Audience The typical student will be a Linux system administrator who needs to provide a file server and/or printer server for a Windows-based network of workstations. Other candidates will be management professionals concerned with the management of such a system. Prerequisites Familiarity with Unix commands is required. Some background with Windows-based networking would be helpful, as would a broad understanding of networking concepts, but these are not required.
