WHAT is Amnesty Week?


A. Amnesty Week is a one week period in which the DMV will forgive the suspension period for any qualifying suspensions. B. According to the amnesty law (SC Code of Law 56-1-396), the suspensions listed below are the only ones that have fixed suspension periods so these are the only suspensions that will qualify for amnesty. SC Code of Law Suspension Description 56-1-460 Driving Under Suspension (excludes any DUS that is the result of DUI or DUAC) 56-1-185 Excessive Points for a Minor 56-1-290 Operating Unlicensed Taxi or Vehicle 56-10-520 Uninsured Motorist (Non-owner) C. You must have met all conditions for reinstatement except for serving the suspension period for all qualifying suspensions. All other suspension requirements must have been met when applying for amnesty. For example, you must have paid all fees related to the suspension, and provided SR-22 proof of insurance, if required. D. The amnesty program does not forgive you of any money you may owe. E. You must apply for amnesty during the week of May 16 - 20, 2011 by completing the application (Form DL-601B) and taking it to one of the 17 DMV offices listed below.

WHEN and WHERE can a customer enter into the amnesty program?
A. Amnesty Week will take place the third week of May in 2011. B. The following DMV field offices will assist customers with the amnesty program Monday May 16th through Friday May 20th from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.

Of the suspensions listed above, have you met all of the terms for reinstating your drivers license other than serving the suspension period? Yes Go to the next question and fill out the rest of this form. You qualify for amnesty and the suspension terms for the fixed suspension periods may be cleared from your South Carolina driving record. No You are not eligible to participate in Amnesty Week unless you take care of the other requirements (pay fees and/or file SR-22 proof of insurance). D. Do you have any suspensions other than those listed above on your driving record? Yes Your driving privileges will still be suspended but DMV will recalculate the remaining suspension start dates to begin as soon as possible but not before the conviction date(s). No Once the suspension periods are cleared by the DMV, you should be eligible to apply for a drivers license. Fill out form 447 Drivers License Application if you wish to apply for a drivers license at this time. F. Complete the fields below and submit this form to one of the 17 designated DMV offices for processing during Amnesty Week.
