Students interact properly with respect, honesty and responsibility, preserving the national identity with a functional, communicative approach, based on the development of the receptive and productive skills of the language. c. Use language democratically in order to preserve, value and respect multicultural and multiethnic diversity. d. Be able to communicate and comprehend texts of all types as well as all kinds of communicative situations, using and valuing language as a tool for social exchange and personal expression. 4. This course aims to develop a culture of research through the production of a research a paper on various subjects. By the end of this course the students will be able to : 1. Formulate a research problem 2. Plan the structure of the paper 3. Evaluate sources of information 4. Select and organize information 5. Prepare a bibliography 6. Conduct interviews and/ or surveys 7. Understand and apply MLA rules to avoid plagiarism 8. Write the paper with an accurate use of the English language 5. As an introduction to every topic, you will first discuss what you know about the topic, and what about it interests you. Then, there will be a brief lecture about the unit, which will be complemented by the reading that has been assigned for it. Students are expected to have read all of the assigned work or works, and come to class with notes and questions about the readings. If further research is needed, students are expected to carry it out in a systematic manner. Student participation is a must in this class. Oral skills will be developed by voluntarily participating, as well as through assigned presentations. The presentations will be performed in front of the class. At the end of every unit, students will be expected to write essays to demonstrate sufficient comprehension of the topics covered in class and explore those topics in greater depth. Among some of the supplementary materials that will be used in class, there will be examples of different research products, such as journal articles, internet, and books that relate to the topic being studied. Throughout the year, grading will be based on student participation, block and unit tests, homework, oral and written projects, and discipline. 9.
