CHAPTER V Family Coping Index This chapter shows the Family Coping Index.

This provides a basis for estimating the nursing needs of the family and includes the ideal cues that can help the student nurse to assess the familys ability to cope. Criteria 1. Physical Independence Ideal All family members, whether or not there is infirmity or disability in one or more of its members, are receiving the necessary care to maintain cleanliness including skin care; are able to get about Actual Rating Justification

Therapeutic Competence Family able to demonstrate that the members can carry out the prescribed procedures safely and efficiently, with the understanding of the principles involved and with a confident and willing attitude. 3. disease well enough to take necessary action at the proper time, understands the rationale of care, able to report significant symptoms. 4. Application of Principles of General Hygiene Household runs smoothly, family meals well-selectednutritious and affordable; habits of rest and sleep adequate to needs of the members; Personal hygiene is

given much attention; Home does not stress the family. 5. Health Attitude Understands and recognizes need for medical care in illness and for the preventive services, arranges for periodic physical appraisals and follows through with recommendations, accepts illness calmly and recognizes the limits it imposes while doing all possible to

effect recovery and rehabilitation. 6. Emotional Competence All members of the family able to maintain a reasonable degree of emotional calm, face up to illness realistically and hopefully; able to discuss problems and differences with objectivity and reasonable emotional control; do not worry unduly about trivial matters, consider the

needs and wishes of their family members, of neighbors and those with whom they work and live in making decision upon action. 7. Family Living Family does things together, each member acts for the good of the family as a whole; children respect parents and vice versa; family tasked shared, evidence of planning.

8. Physical Environment

House in good repair; provides for privacy and is free of accidents and pest hazards; neighborhood respectable and provided with recreational facilities for children; free from undesirable social elements; opportunities for community activity.

CHAPTER VI Typology of Nursing Problem This chapter shows the problem of the family in terms of health and their environmental circumstances. The second level assessment is done to come up with the Family Nursing Problems. Health problem is the state in which the body is unable to function normally as a unit. CHAPTER VII Problem Prioritization and Problem Ranking This chapter presents the following prioritization of health and nursing problems of the family identified by the student nurse. This involves a method of computation that determines the severity of the household problem. There are four criteria used for determining priorities among health conditions or problems. CHAPTER VIII Family Nursing Care Plan Included in this chapter the family nursing care plans for three identified problems. A family nursing care plan is an outline of nursing care actions implemented for the family to render effective nursing care to eradicate the identified health and family nursing problems by implementing the following stages of the nursing process.
