INTRODUCTION This document covers the selection of each power circuit corresponding to the rated current under consideration of short circuit current (minimum conductor size) and voltage drop depend on cable length, complying with the requirements of IEC-502 where applicable and related IEC standards corresponding to the insulation used and voltage level
DESIGN CONDITION In general condition, power cable conductor size will be determined in accordance with the following consideration. 2.1 Current rating Basic terms to be used for calculation as follows. o (1) Ambient temperature in air. 40 C o (2) Ambient temperature in underground... 30 C (3) Maximum continuous temperature o for XLPE insulated power cable. 90 C o for PVC insulated power cable.. 70 C (4) Maximum permissible temperature at short circuit o for XLPE insulated power cable. 250 C o for PVC insulated power cable.. 160 C (5) Derating factor (installation method)...... 0.7 (6) Total derating factor... 0.64 Derating factor (installation method) x derating factor (ambient tempeture) In this case, ambient temperature is 40oC, and formula of derating factor ambient temperature is as follow. T= where ; Ta Tb

CALCULATION FOR SAFETY CURRENT CAPACITY Formula of safety current capacity is as follow J = I x T x F.. Where : J I T F (1)
: Safety current capacity : Current carrying capacity : Derating factor (ambient temperature) : Derating factor (installation method)
VOLTAGE DROP 4.1 Calculation formula of voltage drop is as follow (1) Three phase A.C circuit V = 3 x I x L x ( R cos + X sin ) Where ; V : Voltage drop (V) I : Circuit rated current (A) : A.C resistance of conductor at actual temperature (/km) R : Reactance of conductor (/km) X L : Cable length (km) Cos : Power factor Sin : (2)
1 (cos ) 2
(2) Single phase A.C Circuit V = 2 x I x L x ( R cos + X sin ).. ( 3 ) (3) D.C Circuit V = 2 x I x L x R where ; RD; D.C resistance of conductor at actual temperature (/km) 4.2 Allowable voltage drop Refer to general specification 6.31 of contract document, Overall voltage drop rates shall be not more than : 5% for DC Circuits 4% for AC Circuits at full load 8 % for AC Circuits at maximum transient current (4)
