Purdue Student Senate Minutes Session XI August 27, 2011 This official meeting of the Purdue Student Governments

Senate was called to order at 1:30 pm on August 27, 2011, in Camp Tecumseh by Vice President Monica Harvey. Present: Cabinet: Brett Highley, Monica Harvey, Kelly OBrien, Amanda Evans, Mike May, Corey Bultema, Aaron Birge, Sara Yelich, Laura Donaldson Senators: Joe Rust, Joe Harmeyer, Trevvor Long, Matt Elliott, Matt Swiontek, Keith Jacobs, Ben Doll. Brandon Dalton, Jennifer Barth, Nathan Shrock, Ashley Munson Advisors: Pablo Malavenda Proxies: none Court: Paul Cronkhite I. Approval of Minutes The previous minutes were not approved. II. Guest Speaker There was no guest speaker. III. President, Vice President, and Committee Reports - President: President Highley had nothing to report. - Vice President: Vice President Harvey had nothing to report. - Advisor: Advisor Malavenda had nothing to report. - President Pro Tempore: Senator Swiontek had nothing to report. - Academic Affairs: Senator Horton had nothing to report. - Governmental Affairs: Senator Rosenthal had nothing to report. - Student Affairs: Senator Munson had nothing to report. - Internal Affairs: Senator Briggs had nothing to report. IV. Informal Discussion There was no informal discussion. VI. Old Business a. Bill 11-4: 2011-2012 Purdue Student Government Budget Treasurer Evans said there was a net decrease of money used so this was put into other causes. Senator Rust moved to amend Bill 11-4 to strike out the Microsoft Donation. Senator King seconded the amendment. The amendment passed 12-0. Senator Doll asked where the money originally allotted from the Microsoft Donation came from. Treasurer Evans said that it has already been taken care of but well submit the master budget next meeting. Senator Swiontek moved to send the bill to committee. The motion was seconded and approved. b. Bill 11-7: Purdue Student Government Restructuring Act of 2011 Senator Swiontek reminded the chamber that this is the second and final reading of the bill. President Highley explained that the bill is long because every area of the PSG Constitution needed to be amended whenever it mentions the cabinet positions. Senator Swiontek moved to vote on Bill 11-7. Senator Munson seconded the motion. The bill passed unanimously 12-0.

VII. New Business a. Bill 11-9: Confirmation of Senior Policy Advisor Senator Swiontek asked nominee Nick Robison what he would do as the new Senior Policy Advisor. Robison replied that he brings a lot of energy to the cabinet and will make sure that everything would be run at maximum efficiency. Senator Rust gave his approval of the choice and asked his fellow senators to confirm Robison. Senator Swiontek moved to vote on Bill 11-9. Senator Elliott seconded the motion. The bill passed unanimously 12-0. b. Senator Rust asked that the Senate looking to an ad-hoc committee about tradition for PSG. Senator Swiontek asked Senator Rust to explain why this was necessary. Senator Rust said that PSG is missing things such as pledges that many other student body governments use elsewhere. Senator Dalton said he did not see the point for such a committee. Senator Rust said he honestly thinks this is something that needs to be looked at and theres no harm in making a committee. Senior Policy Advisor Robison exclaimed his endorsement to Senator Rusts idea. Senator Rust moved to vote to make the committee. Senator Harmeyer seconded the motion. The motion passed 10-2. VIII. Announcements Announcements were listed on the agenda. IX. Adjournment Senator King moved to adjourn the meeting. Senator Long seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 2:15 pm.
