World Mission Sunday, organized by the Propagation of the Faith, is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church's missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. In 2011, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on October 23. Annually, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on the nextto-last Sunday in October. As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is "an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world" (see Redemptoris Missio 81). Every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grow - as new dioceses are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of the growing number of young men hearing Christ's call to follow Him as priests, as areas devastated by war or natural disas-

The Mass Changes Us! New translation of The Roman Missal The Mass

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Wednesday evening 7pm October 19 & 26

in the church basement - Rogers Hall With Father William De Salvo

Pope Benedict XVI has approved a new translation of the Mass for use in English speaking countries. The United States will begin using the new translation on the First Sunday of Advent, Nov. 27th, 2011. The Mass is not changing. What is changing is the English translation of the Mass from the original Latin. The implementation of the new English translation of the Roman Missal provides an occasion for all Catholics to reflect once again on the meaning and central significance of the Mass. It is a time to renew our own understanding and appreciation of the Eucharistic Liturgy. Join us for these informative presentations, especially if youre curious or confused about the upcoming change to the Mass, and / or you want to learn more about the Mass- why we do things, and the rich 2000 year tradition behind this central act of worship of the Roman Catholic Church.

IN GOD ALONE Isaiah speaks to us today of Cyrus, King of Persia, anointed by the Lord. God calls Cyrus by name and leads him in service to the Israelites. In this passage we hear that it is the Lord who gives Cyrus his title, who arms him against his enemies, and who opens doors and unbars gates before him. And God does all of this so that the people will know that I am the LORD, and that there is none besides me (Isaiah 45:6). Paul opens his letter with essentially the same notionthat in God alone we find our grace and peace. Paul also gives thanks to God on our behalf, calling to mind our work of faith, hope, and love. And in the familiar Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Pharisees to give to Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is Gods. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
