Objectives Introduction to Malaysia energy Policy and Energy utilities Nuclear Power : Government Desicions Proposed Mechanism for Nuclear Energy Implementation New Role to Malaysia Nuclear Agency Concluding remarks
Objectives of presentation
To explain why nuclear is incorporated into new Energy Policy. To share relevant Government decisions with respect to Nuclear
Energy sources determined by Fuel Diversification Policies [1]. 1981 Four-Fuel Diversification Policy To reduce over-dependence on single fuel source To focus on four main sources of fuel; oil, hdyro, natural gas and coal [2]. 2000 Five-Fuel Diversification Policy To incorporate renewable energy as a fifth fuel To expand fuel sources to comprise oil, hydro, gas, coal and renewable energy
Malaysia Comprises of Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah. Malaysia Peninsular contributes to 40% of land area (about 132K sq.km), these areas are divided into 11 States & Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya with 80% of national population.
Sarawak and Sabah contributes to about 60% of land area (about 199K sq.km), but there is only 20% of national population.
Is it suitable for SMR NPP to be developed in Sabah and Sarawak due to its small grid and the availability of renewable energy from hydro power?
The seismic activity in Southeast Asia (1964 to 2000) based on hazard model indicates that Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak are located within the low earthquake risk zone.

MNPC is a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital and incorporated on 7 January 2011. MNPC is ADMINISTERED by the Prime Minister's Department .
implementation of nuclear energy development programme for Malaysia and to take the necessary action to realize the development of the first nuclear power plant in Malaysia (targeted by 2021 as per ETP Nuclear Timeline). To ensure the development of nuclear infrastructure for the country is in line with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) guidelines covering 19 key areas (national position, nuclear safety, management, funding and financing, legislative framework, safeguards, regulatory framework, radiation protection, electrical grid, human resource development, stakeholder involvement, site and supporting facilities, environmental protection, emergency planning, security and physical protection, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste, industrial involvement and procurement). To identify company or special purpose vehicle (SPV) to be the owner and/or operator of nuclear power plant.

Concluding remarks
The Role of NM as TSO for Education is Clear and
Referenced Based on International Practices Preparation Towards Serving Such a Role in Place through existing infra and collaboration with local universities and other RIs. Although Issues and Constraints Exists, with Sharing of Resources and Integrated Efforts, International Collaborations, Long Term Government Commitments, etc, it is possible to produce the required manpower needed for NPP and NTP, both for short and long terms Nuclear HRD is the way forward for nuclear sustainability and Excellence
