Scientism to Foster Integration of Power of
Science and Might of Technology
Prof. P. B. Sharma
Ph D (B’ham), FIE, FAero S, FWAPS
Vice Chancellor
Rajiv Gandhi Technological University
Scientism is the enabling scientific horizon on which the power of science is to be
integrated with the might of technology which in turn will ensure that the mankind
continues to move forward on the path of prosperity and happiness. Scientism creates a
human society deep rooted in the scientific ethos and adores scientific values which in
turn create a civilized society adhering to the cardinal principles of peace, nonviolence,
peaceful co-existence and harmony with nature. India as a nation of highly enthusiastic
youth so keenly motivated to engineering and technology education can unleash an era of
technology innovation in the country by integrating the power of science with the might
of technology, so well nurtured in the environment of Scientism. No wonder the ancient
glory of the “Wonder that was India” will then descend on Indian horizon creating fair
prosperity and happiness in plenty. India holds a promise to the growth of scientism for
the well being of the mankind and for the sustenance of nature.
1.0 Introduction:
Advancements in Science and Technology have been a powerful instrument to
propel the growth and development of the modern Agro-Industrial Society ever since the
discovery of Laws of Motion by Newton in 1687 and the Advent of Steam Engine by
James Watt in 1769. In fact the steam engine developed by James Watt and its later
versions of steam locomotives are the perfect examples of integration of the power of
science and the might of technology created by the application of the scientific principles
to provide to the humanity at large the wheels of growth and development. Likewise the
development of motorized airplane of Wright brothers in 1903 and later development of
the aerospace industry are yet other marvels of the synergy of science and technology. In
the field of communication engineering the Marconi’s discovery of radio signal receiver
in 1901 and successive developments of television in 1926 and advances in
communication science and technology to the modern day computer assisted
communications, Internet technologies and IP telephony all go on to demonstrate that
science and technology are to be pursued for the benefit of the mankind, supporting the
growth of S&T powered enterprises, creating productive employment in plenty, assuring
higher levels of prosperity, sustaining ever increasing levels of quality of life and thus
creating excitement in the pursuit of science and technological education, research and
innovations.
The modern scientific age right from 17th century onwards has worked largely to
the advantage of the human society, yet often creating serious concerns because of
misuse of the scientific knowledge and technology applications. However this has much
to do with the behavior of man in reaping the rich harvest of prosperity on S&T power
and yet mindlessly sacrificing the interest of nature and human society. Well now that the
S&T has taken a driving seat in the new knowledge age, it is important to succeed in
creating a culture of science, practiced with scientific values and scientific ethos and
embedded in the development and applications of technology to create a better tomorrow.
This can be effectively done by creating scientism all around to integrate the power of
science and the might of technology for the well being of man and to protect the interest
of nature.
Education thus goes beyond the domain of knowledge and covers conduct and
behavior which form the essentials of the attitude and character of man. In the true Vedic
system of education the founding fathers of education system in India have ensured that
educational systems ensure that knowledge, conduct and behavior are all nurtured
together so that the man of knowledge in true sense serve the society with utmost
humility and strive to achieve harmony with nature in theirs chosen activities, in fact live
life full of bliss of divinity, creating everlasting peace and happiness.
S&T Education is all about equipping man with an attitude, a state of mind tuned
to keenness of observation, unfailing analysis of the available facts and to filter
the truth from untruth even under complex situations and phenomena.
S&T Education is to equip and empower people with capabilities to scale the
impossible, equip people with infinite capabilities and highly specialized skills to
assure sustained and continuous improvements in the quality of life, maintain
ecological balance and to find tangible solutions to the formidable problems
including conquering death and mortality. “Saha noh yasha, saha noh
Brahmbarchasam”, as the Tatreya Upnishad says.
S&T education is also to create fair prosperity and happiness in plenty, and not
unfair prosperity and unhappiness which we see around these days in many
quarters of the world.
Scientism shall ensure the emergence of a new world order where science and
scientific thinking shall create a fair and just society, adoring high levels of prosperity
and spiritual enlightenment together. The Wonder that was India, which to date remains
both a mystery as well as an excitement; the Golden Eagle of the East was also the Kashi
of Spiritual Enlightenment which bridged the gap between man and divine. Just imagine
a tailor made Sita taking birth as a test tube baby during Ramayana times, tailor made 5
Pandavas including Bhima having the power of 100 elephants! And 100 sons of Kunti,
the Kauravas of the Mahabharata times, Sanjaya communicating to the blind king
Dharatrastra the narration of the minute to minute happenings of the Mahabharata war
and that too without the modern microwave/satellite communication system are the
glimpses of India' s rich scientific heritage which still are a formidable challenge to the
modern scientists and technologists. May be now that the pace of scientific discovery
and technology innovations has accelerated the scientific explorations to encompass the
realms of earlier considered supra natural, it should be possible for the scientific man to
touch the horizons of prajnana, which shall equip man with infinite capabilities and
specialized skills of the Vedic times.
5.0 India’s Emergence as a Knowledge Super Power:
Emergence of India as a Knowledge Superpower in the recent years is now being
well acknowledged around the globe. All this could be possible primarily because of
significant growth of science and technology institutions established in the country
during the last 4 decades, more so during the last 15 years, which have provided the much
needed capacity for the development of human capital to propel the growth of knowledge
industries both at home as well as abroad. India with its IISc, 7 IITs, 4 IIITs, 20 NITs
and a good number of world-renowned engineering and technology institutions such as
Delhi College of Engineering, BITS Pilani, Anna University, Jadavpur University,
Bengal Engineering College, now Bengal University of Science and Technology, Punjab
Engineering College, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, PSG College of
Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, etc. have enabled India to create a niche
advancement in manpower development to meet the current demand of engineering
manpower for the industries at home and abroad. Indian engineering graduates have
found high acceptability in MNCs and in the industries and organizations in the
developed countries. In fact, the world renowned IT organizations such as Microsoft,
Intel, AMD, Oracle, CISCO and others have utilized the geniuses of Indian engineering
graduates to propel technology innovations and product development. Further, R&D
organizations and Research Centres set up in India both by Indian and foreign companies
continue to attract engineering and technology graduates from Indian institutions. This
goes to demonstrate that India has emerged as a major hub to propel technology
innovations in the knowledge intensive industries. In the strategic defense sector, Indian
engineers have already demonstrated their capabilities of technology innovations which
have enabled India to attain near self-sufficiency for its strategic defense programmes.
4. Health care is an area where science and technology innovations could make
good health care for all a reality. Tele medicine, Tele diagnostics, innovated
drug delivery systems, bio-sciences and genetic research are going to unfold
hitherto un-imagined horizons supporting a healthy life affordable to a
common man. The success in this area however will also depend upon
achieving energy security and environmental sustainability.
India could reap rich dividends, specially that its human capital has the
capabilities to un-lease technological innovations which besides assuring higher levels of
national prosperity will ensure higher levels of national security. The present GDP
growth of 8-9 percent has been achieved through a vibrant industry environment
including the IT Sector. If we are able to provide uninterrupted supply of electric power
to our industries and also to other sectors of economy, the GDP growth will jump to 10-
12 percent and even more. Technology innovations can help achieving energy security
by cutting down enormous waste of electricity in T & D losses, promoting engineering
efficiency in electrical devices and systems as also new and viable energy fuels including
non-conventional sources. Similarly in the area of technical education leveraging
advantage technology assisted by the power of technology innovations can help in
significantly improving the quality of education and research and make S&T institutions
emerge as the factories of innovations.
Suchi Shukla
(1986-2008)
Suchi Shukla was a student of UIT RGTU who battled her illness till her very last. She was diagnosed
with kidney failure and underwent dialysis twice a week, while she was pursuing her engineering in
the year 2003-2004 and was prescribed complete bed rest by the doctor.. But such was her desire to
accomplish her studies that as and when she could deal with her illness she would ask for admission
and continue with her degree. Against all odds Suchi fought with determination and strength. She
was donated with her mothers' kidney in the year 2006 but as fate unfolded her body rejected the
transplanted kidney. Her ambitions were left unaccomplished on January 1st, 2008 after battling for
a long time.

This was written in March 07 right at the beginning of journey of ambitions,
towards making it into the coveted ten. Right then it was just a figment of internal thought…
For Tomorrow I will fly and you will see it in the sky
for tomorrow I will fly.
For I know, Mountains will watch me
tomorrow I will fly for I will be one in the heights
Making my own V in sky. Valleys will watch me in diagonals
Measuring the skies cutting my original Idea
with my flight of courage across the sky
skimming upon the surface of Seas, For tomorrow I will fly.
reflecting the persistence of sea waves I will bounce along the storms
into the sky hiding and ducking and falling
For tomorrow I will fly. for some moments
Floating and swirling like the winds and then again look at the same sky
talking to the winds, For tomorrow I will fly
where the clouds lay, roaring In my own way
just beneath the sky in emblazonment of times suspended
For tomorrow I will fly. and in frozen wait of the unsaid
Rising from the earth, It will rainbow sooner or later in the sky
kissing the tips of snow peaks, For tomorrow I will fly.
will rise to the rhythm of eternal promise I know, The omens are not right
echoing the sky. The reflection of the past is flawed
For tomorrow I will fly. There are mountains that are higher than the flight
When the leaves of the autumn shall And the storms that run faster than me
touch the earth, shedding the pretensions But somehow this is indispensable
for something that is real forever. This flight wants to defy itself.
the call of love It is not in the nature of flight
I will wave you back Even the time contradicts it
right from the sky Yet It wants to hold on, not give up
For tomorrow I will fly. the original idea.
Light will burst into colors daunting as it is to pierce the silence of space
when I will strike it And voice over the howling of torrents
along the ridges of my wing But it wants to repeat its promise
against all the odds
and shout it into the sky
and scream to the heights that
cant even be seen from these lows
To kiss away the challenges into the heights
that await me in the sky
For tomorrow I will fly
For I know
One thing
For tomorrow I will fly.
For tomorrow I will fly.

Final Year
Our five senses are incomplete without the sixth - a sense of humor.
Infinite Frontiers
Thus spoke Jawahar Lal Nehru on the midnight of 14th of august, 1947 when half of the world was fast
asleep but India woke up to a new dawn, to that holy morning of a free India. But that was then, when blood was
not just an elixir to life it was an elixir to ones conviction, it ran through that fabric of society which was made by not
just few mortals but by those who had souls of wisdom, to whom ones conviction was bigger than few green leafs.
To them blood was not something to be saved but to be spilled on the faces of those who tortured, convicted the
innocent and marred our country with derogation. And now is the time when blood is nothing but mere source of
living. After we celebrated 60 odd years of our independence, one is bound to question
Freedom, not just from oppression but from the rigidity of our minds, freedom, not from the shackles of
injustice but from that of corruption and illegitimate bureaucracy, freedom, from not few white men but from the
timidity of that insignificant man which is hiding in all of us due to fear and greed.
Yes, today after long the toll went on our independence it is time that we wake up to another of a midnight,
when half of the world would be asleep but India would awake to a new dawn of freedom in true sense. We all
agree that to start a revolution, one must create a revolution within and when I see the youth of today studying
into the fields of medical and engineering abusing the strength of words, ridiculing them by making mockery of
the so called “kalam ki takat” I feel ashamed. For they are not those who will ever be proud of their own country
when for one single instant they could not be tolerant to the silent weapon of writers and journalists. Its not just
about few chunks of engineering students, neither it is about those medical students who fake their mark sheets
to become professional doctors and end up being quacks. Neither it is about those non-conformists who blast
innocent people to the arms of death; true they all have reasons for their behavior. But unfortunately their reason is
not to stand for their conviction; rather it is to crush the very existence of it from others, those who have it within!
I might be incomprehensible because certain words in this article are forced on few people, but what
needs to be understood that there won't be a Gandhi or a Nehru to balance the pillar of strength every time we
crash it down. If it has to be build lets start with building our morals first. And then let's change the world!
We have seen so many, who have fought relentlessly on the open fields of bullets, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru,
Sukhdev. We don't need to see beyond the boundaries of our own country, why we don't instigate ourselves from
within? If movies like 'Rang De Basanti' can make a difference then I believe we still are made from the same “blood”,
of that which demarcates us not by any creed, color, race or religion. They demarcate us from the world for making
us Indians. I know, no movie, no inspiration can make us. What can make us is our own self; no piece of land can be
named heaven unless one has seen the real one. Start from believing your self, that you and only you can make a
difference and if there has to be an inspiration let that be each of us to one another!
For the very cause of humanity, let's stop hooliganism, let's stop mob furry, let's no more be dependant on candle lit
vigils, let's start being humans strength in itself, let's start today. For we want just few golden swords to win the
battle and let one amongst them be you!

THE ANCIENT TH O U G H T
At the epicenter of the times uncertain and untold
It was born in the warmth of the cosmic cold
It was like a thought but more of an embryo of reality
It was a perpetual thought but more of a promise of time and certainty
It was a like thought of Brahma
Yet it was the fruit of eternal karma
It was like a singularity but more of a vast polarity
A land that was born upon the evolutionary ridge
To defy yet define the cultivated culture and known knowledge
It was neither a founding stone nor the beginning of an empire
Just at the length of the hourglass, it was an endeavor
Of all those who grew here
& yet & yet it was an epic -unending and rare
Instilled & veiled in the intelligent mindscapes
And forever living in its livingscapes
And as passeth the ages and past disappeared into the presence
People of the land realized its long existence
Eternal thought turn into a land, land turned into a country
The country is India.

some plan to make RGPV premises Wi-Fi- enabled. I decided enough of ancient
living I got to do some research of my own. So, for all of you who are still
struggling …………. I'd like to give you something on this new technology.
TECH-GYAN
A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a PC, game console, cell phone, MP3 player or
PDA can connect to the Internet when within a hotspot. Wi-fi access points
called a hotspot can comprise an area as small as a single room with wireless-
opaque walls or as large as many square miles covered by overlapping access
points.
Wi-Fi technologies have gone through several generations since their
inception in 1998. The Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X support Wi-Fi to
different extent.
Wi-Fi allows LANs to be deployed without cabling for client devices, typically
reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. Spaces where cables
cannot be run, such as outdoor areas and historical buildings, can host wireless
LANs.
The best thing about Wi-Fi technology is that it is a global set of standards.
Unlike mobile telephones, any standard Wi-Fi device will work anywhere in the
world.
Many consumer devices use Wi-Fi. Amongst others, personal computers can
network to each other and connect to the Internet, mobile computers can
connect to the Internet from any Wi-Fi hotspot, and digital cameras can transfer
images wirelessly.
So, people isn't Wi-fi cool!! It is no less than a revolution. You don't get zapped by
it & keep Wi-Fiing till there is a next revolution…
Here I have explained them and will also be suggesting a solution for it.
Spyware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Adware). It is a way for shareware authors to make
money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them
to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't
have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is
usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee.
While this may be a great concept, the downside is that the advertising companies also install additional tracking
software on your system, which is continuously "calling home", using your Internet connection and reports
statistical data to the "mothership". While according to the privacy policies of the companies, there will be no
sensitive or identifying data collected from your system and you shall remain anonymous, it still remains the fact,
that you have a "live" server sitting on your PC that is sending information about you and your surfing habits to a
remote location...
Are all Adware products "Spyware"?
No, but the majority are. There are also products that do display advertising but do not install any tracking
mechanism on your system. These products are not indexed in our database.
Unlike viruses and worms, spyware does not usually self-
replicate. Like many recent viruses; however, spywareby
designexploits infected computers for commercial gain. Typical
tactics furthering this goal include delivery of unsolicited pop-up
advertisements; theft of personal information (including financial
information such as credit card numbers); monitoring of Web-
browsing activity for marketing purposes; or routing of HTTP requests
to advertising sites.
Solution: one has to use an Internet security suite or
maybe an antispyware. Also try using a firewall because that also
checks these problems. Most of them cost you but there are also some
free ones available.
Also mozilla firefox users can download mozilla add-
ons, which can restrict autoplay of flash movies, auto loading of
images, block popup beside other user-friendly options. Also the user
can remove external programs that automatically install themselves
from the mozilla by deleting them from the Mozilla add-on list thus
freeing him of any annoyance that these Adwares might pose.
Accelerated YOUTUBE
After the goggle's search technology, ideas on the net keep on popping and
keep on fading…some stay and make a big game of themselves. Youtube is
one such idea that is here to stay and we already have a huge UIT junta aware
of it and even using it. So here are some tips to use the thing better.
SpeedBit Video Accelerator makes videos, from Youtube and over 100 other
sites, stream faster and play smoother by reducing "movie freezes",
"buffering" problems, video "interruptions" and "hiccups". SpeedBit Video
Accelerator's unique video search feature lets you find the latest and hottest
videos around the web, and the "Recently Accelerated" list gives you instant
access to the last videos played.
TECH-GYAN
search feature for finding videos around the web, right from your desktop,
and also bookmarks the last ten videos you watched, for easy replays. Note
that the bookmark feature can also be disabled for privacy purposes
Also the UIT junta is big time into the downloading, most of them however
do not use any external download accelerator. Basically a download utility
not only speeds your download but also gives you the facility of managing,
scheduling and resuming your downloads. And if you are using the Internet
explorer than the facility of a download client can greatly enhance your
Internet downloading experience.

ROBOT FEVERTRONICS
! Well. Well..! I am not a Robotist; I am just sharing some knowledge on Robots because I am very much
interested in it.
! Many times in college and in any technical fest many people asked to me about Robots that we build for
participating in various technical fests, is it really a Robot. Well my answer was NO. It is not actually a
Robot, but it is a part of Robotics, which include some mechanical, electronics and electrical concept
which is generally used to make Robots. Those who are really interested in it should go for it first.
! Generally, people use wrong definition of Robots. A Robot is a machine designed to execute one or more
tasks repeatedly, with speed and precision. There are as many different types of robots as there are
tasks for them to perform.
! A Robot can be controlled by a human operator, sometimes from a great distance. But most robots are
controlled by computer. A Robot is mechanical devices that can move by themselves, whose motion
must be modeled, planned, sensed, actuated and controlled, and whose motion behavior can be
influenced by programming. Robots are called intelligent, if they succeed in moving in safe
interaction with an unstructured environment, while autonomously achieving their specified tasks.
This definition implies that a device can only be called a “Robot” if it contains a movable mechanism,
influenced by sensing, planning, actuation and control components. It does not imply that a
minimum number of these components must be implemented in software, or be changeable by the
consumer who uses the device.
! Robotics is, to a very large extent, all about system integration, achieving a task by an actuated
mechanical device, via an intelligent integration of components, many of which it shares with other
domains, such as systems and control, computer science, character animation, machine design,
computer vision, artificial intelligence, etc.

India has seen the abundant flow of huge events in the beginning of history. Its tale is one of the most
incredible dramas and one of the biggest ideas till date. It's our motherland whose very own children will grow up
to be the global superpower, embracing the virtues passed on to them from ancient civilisations.
“Jambudweepe Bharatkhande” is the great land where all human pasts are still alive, a 10000 years old epic
which still continues today. And we being Indians have the liberty to feel proud for what we have.
India's 'unity in diversity' goes back to the customs and traditions rooted deep in our history, certifying
that identity is never static but it is always in a phase of transformation. And this transformation has made our
prodigies to dream for next generation India.
The great Indian visionary Swami Vivekananda introduced himself at the world religious conference , held
at Chicago, extolling Indian culture and values : “ We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all
religion as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all
religions and all nation of the earth.”
On a holistic nature the concept of “Vasudheva Kutumbakam” teaching all, tolerance and empathy for
others is introduced first by India. We have taught how to live with sharing our world with the world of others, how
to find happiness, how to live with virtue and dharma. We have long back evolved the very concept of world being
home to every person ever born, which now comes as to be the global village.
Speculation is the nature of universe as well as human being. And this relationship has provided us a fillip
to speculate about our future. Speculating and inquisitive bend of Indian mind has opened a broadband channel
for us to peep into future and regain our status.
We, the stalwarts of science and technology from ancient ages are spearheading at a high pace. The legacy
of Aryabhatta, Sushruta, Varahmihir, Charak and other umpteen Vedic scientists has been kept alive. India is the
emerging technology titan and most of the foreign research establishments are fuelled by Indian human
resource.
More broadly, India's economic growth, its military capacity, its industrial strength, and its entry into world
economic markets challenge its regional neighbors and the west.
India has reincarnated herself.. Carving her golden future..Keeping her virtues alive...
The T.T team of UIT-RGPV was formed this year and it displayed the talents of the students in this fast paced game.
Most of the team players had played at National or State level during their school times. The team participated in
many tournaments of national repute this year which included their participation at Spardha-08, Annual National
level sports meet of IT-BHU. The team also participated at Sportomania-08, Annual Sports meet of MANIT Bhopal,
and the team was also able to make it to the quarter finals of the Inter College Table Tennis tournament held at TIT
Bhopal. The amount of achievements made by the team in such a short period of time is really commendable. With
more practice and hard work the team is sure to make new marks next year.
Cricket:
The cricket tem of UIT-RGPV as always displayed great skills and a high level of commitment for the game. It was
the sheer passion and love for the game that the team was able to represent the institute at many tournaments of
national repute. The team participated at Spardha-08, Annual National level sports meet of IT-BHU. The team also
participated at Sportomania-08, Annual Sports meet of MANIT Bhopal where it was able to make it to the third
round, the Inter college cricket tournament held at SATI Vidisha and the team was also able to make it to the
quarter finals of the Inter College cricket tournament held at Radharaman Bhopal. The talent and enthusiasm
showed by the players was really promising and the team with more practice next year will be able to reach new
horizons.
Foot Ball:
The football team of our college made a mark at the national level sports festival SPORTOMANIA 08, organized by
the students of MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY.The newly formed football team was the
finalist at the sports meet. The team consisted of students of first, second, third and fourth year students. They were
selected on the basis of trials organized by the senior members of the team. The trials were held at Jawahar Lal
Nehru School, BHEL Bhopal football grounds.Out of the many players who came for the trials, only the best were
able to make it to the final playing 15 who were to represent UIT RGPV at the sports fest.
In the first round, our team encountered SATI Vidisha, which was supposed to be one amongst the really good and
experienced teams of the tournament. The scoreboard remained unchanged at the end of the scheduled 90
minutes of play. It was down to the penalty shootouts to determine which team would make it to the semi finals.
The hard work and courage of our players to perform well in such pressure positions finally paid off, as our team
won the shootout 3-0. In the semifinals our team faced Technocrats Institute of Technology Bhopal. It was a walk in
the park for our team as we defeated TIT 1-0.
The final was against one of the fiercest competitor one can think of, MANIT itself. For the first time in the
tournament, our team was provided with our own college jerseys. Although our team lost in the finals with a final
score tally of 3-0, it was really a an achievement for a team with only 4 days of practice sessions and almost no
experience, no one would have expected the underdogs of the competition to reach the finals of such a
prestigious tournament.
This event was a boon to the students as they were able to recognize the undiscovered talents buried inside UIT.
This will act as a platform to let people come out and show their skills in this ball game
Badminton:
The badminton team was formed this year and consists of players from second and third year. The team members
have high level of skills and talents and one of the team members has an all India ranking in badminton. The team
represented the college in Spardha-08, Annual National level sports meet of IT-BHU.

As with the Barber, let us consider the two alternatives: that he is speaking the truth
and that he is not. Suppose he is speaking the truth: then it is true that he is lying but if he is lying, he
is not speaking the truth. We have a contradiction. Suppose that he is not speaking the truth: then, as
we assume he knows what he is doing, he is lying and so, as he says that he is lying, he is speaking the
truth after all. 'Con-tra-diction!' With the Barber, we said that there could be no barber. With the Liar?
The speaker who says that he is lying both exists and utters the words 'I'm lying' but we may
reasonably challenge the assumption that he expresses something that is true or false. Just as the
Barber paradox led us to conclude that there could be no such barber, so the Liar paradox may lead
us to conclude that there is nothing that is being expressed by the speaker which is either true or
false. This answer does not reach the heart of the problem, for we can strengthen and lengthen the
paradox, with the speaker saying that what he says is not true. Would he not be expressing the truth
that what he says is not true? If so, again the contradiction arises.
This has suggested to some that we should resort to a stronger claim, namely that
there is nothing at all that such a speaker is expressing when he says, 'What I am saying right now is
not true' despite the words forming a coherent sentence. We need to handle this response with
care. Quite what grip we have on the notion of 'expressing' such that we can tell that such a speaker
is expressing nothing at all? He certainly seems to be expressing something more than someone
who is silent or who utters nonsense words. Let us leave that thought lingering, to be picked up
later.
***
If you remember that we also mentioned a case of notice and a room, now if a notice a notice
can sensibly instruct people not to read a different notice, just as the sign that warns of dangers in
the room can be sensibly placed outside the blue room, the job we intend to do would be done.
Futility arises when the notices involve elements of self-reference. A barber in Rampur can readily
shave all and only those who do not shave themselves in the next village, say, Shyampur. The
contradiction arises if that barber moves to Shyampur. Metaphorically, he goes up in a puff of smoke
or a froth of shaving soap. In more literal mode, were the barber to move from Rampur to Shyampur,
then what was true of him about his shaving clientele could no longer be true. A liar may say of
someone else, without paradox, that that someone else is lying; it is when he says it of himself that
paradox flies forth. And the similar paradox holds its validity in the case of truth where you can
presume it to be a false.
The first sentence is used to tell us about what is expressed by the second but that
sends us scuttling back to the first, with paradoxical results unless we insist, once again, that, one way
or another, nothing is being expressed. Self-reference continues to feast philosophers' minds. Some
self-reference or mirroring seems fine. For example, when I say that, 'I am Indian'. My use of that
sentence expressed a truth. But we may question whether that sentence involves self reference.
What is expressed is about the nationality used; it is not about what is expressed by means of that
sentence; that is, it is not about itself. What is expressed is not the sort of thing that can be put
differently. The same belief may be expressed by both German and French speakers, but their
utterances would be radically different as is sometimes the case with the American and Indian
English. So where does this whole discussion take us, probably to no fix place but emptiness. All the
self referenced sentence are like a loop to follow which does not have any termination step, and
invariably take us to emptiness. I may now clarify (and rest some nerves) the claim that nothing is
expressed by the use of such self-referential sentences. The truth is that nothing is identified which
the speaker is expressing anything about. Although some things are being expressed for example
the concepts of 'saying' and 'being true' are being expressed they are not being expressed about
anything. There is nothing there to express anything about. What has just been said may be
interesting or uninteresting but is what is expressed by means of this sentence interesting?
In this SMS age....so often we come across words we have to read twice...even thrice to understand
their meanings.....suddenly everyone is "SMS"ing.....messaging...Spelling mistakes are bound to
happen...."Sweetheart" becomes "Sweatheart"...."Husband" becomes....."Hasbaind"......"Friendship"
becomes......"Frandship"....."College" becomes..."Collage"...and well the list goes on..
If you are writing "Hindi" in "English"....then the situation gets
even worse !My "kyun" is people's "kuin".....my "hota hai" is
people's "hota hay"....my "bohat" is people's "buhat"....my "mere"
is people's "meray".....I got a similar sms from a friend which
actually made me laugh out loud !
Hmmm.....so the story goes like...Me and a friend of mine live
nearby...and we go to the same coaching...so we go
together......sometimes we take my scooty...and sometimes
hers. Now yesterday I got an SmS from her which read like.....
"Saniya yar teri gadhi se chalen coaching?Aaj papa ko kaam hai wo
meri gadhi le jaarahe hain."
Hahahaha....ofcourse what she meant was a "gaadi" and not a
"gadhi" but i couldnt help laughing imagining me and
her...riding a "gadhi" to the coaching :D
One went on singing as the other played guitar, jokes on each other and plenty more to
name. Overall the entire three days were simple unexplainable. Must say we all had a jolly good time.
Our journey back home filled us with mixed emotions. We had the anxiety to reach home soon and
narrate out experience to all, at the same time the enthusiastic atmosphere here had captivated us
to such an extent, that we didn't want to go back. With that it came an end to our roller coaster ride in
31st December, when we returned back with beautiful memories.Which we would always cherish!

If tin whistles are made out of tin, what do they make fog horns out of ?

The day came when I held the stamped UIT-RGPV admin slip in my hand. I was now ready to
leave the 12 years of uniformed school life behind. I was happy that now I would be going to college
in style. On my new CBZ-Xtreme with a jazzy helmet and cool carefully casual clothes sometimes I
even thought of having studs in my ears, the thought was as quickly abandoned. I went to stores
which were selling clothes with (50 + 49) % discount!!! and equipped my self. I was ready for college.
My first day in college, I was brought to terra ferma with a jolt sooner than I had ever
imagined, all my hopes of a uniform free college life were dashed to the ground seniors took
pleasure in informing me that this is engineering college mate and you got to follow some rules. So
the bike was locked up, Levi's and RBK's stowed away and I was my old self with black pants, white
shirts and the ugly black shoes to boot.( no pun intended)
How quickly the time flies, having rushed through the 1st sem, in retrospect I feel that wearing
the same dress was not such a bad thing after all. It gave us all a feeling of solidarity as we could
always recognize our lot. This was really necessary because in our early days in the college a certain
bonding was required with your batch mates. There would be always time enough to do whatever
you feel like. From second year onwards by that time we would have matured and the culture and
discipline of the college would have been instilled in us.

Fuel!
It was our first year in college. All those dreams of flying high were still buried deep inside due
to the so called 'love' of our seniors over us. But still I must say we were called the most daring
“freshers” ever because visiting to 'Saanchi' and canteen while being in first year was worth getting a
'Paramveer Chakra'.
And there was the chance to prove ourselves. This was the most awaited moment; the annual
day 'Anunaad' (awaited since last four years) was to be held this time. We grabbed the opportunity
with full enthusiasm. Doing “volunteer-giri” was such a fun. Getting refreshments after each day of
hard work was our major interest. But being a volunteer and writing all crap entries in registration
form was not what we thought it to be like. To show full “neta-giri” we needed to do something
stupendous on stage. BUT WHAT?? Suddently our think tank Sukanya Ganguli came up with an idea
of a skit, the skit about our journey from school to college. But having a theme was not all enough to
do a play, a script was needed (unfortunately the goal of having a script was never accomplished). At
the time of auditions we were only 14 people longing to be the super stars of the play which had no
story line, no dialogues and no characters yet. The problem was further multiplied when our
opponent teams came up with innovative plays, with quality acting and of course with necessary
accessories and equipments (including script) to make it for the final day. We had to perform in front
of faculties and seniors. To our surprise, our skit which was a total mess in front of them did the trick to
impress the seniors. A little bit of makkhan-baji of teachers and seniors did it for us finally, and all the
other teams could do nothing but accept the reality with their jaws hanging like dogs.
But this was not all, then began the actual drama of practicing for the final day, and we had
single day to prove our mettle and make our seniors proud of believing in us.
The very next morning we had to meet at Mayur Park for the rehearsals (calling it rehearsals
wont be apt, because we still did not had a full skit to rehearse on).We did everything like playing with
hose pipe, climbing on trees, and gained lot of vitamin D (while sitting ideally in sun), except for
rehearsing. Watching the video capture of whole day's workout was like watching Rajpal yadav
working together with Rajnikant in a Tamil movie.
Next day was the day of 'Agnipariksha' through which each of us had to pass, with a lot of
sound advice (more sound and less advice) from our seniors, we did the final rehearsals.
And here came the much awaited moment when we were all well dressed in our 'Ram Leela'
costumes waiting backstage for next performance (which of course was ours). To do the 'Shree
Ganesha' of such a historic event something weird had to happen and this was it Sukanya lost her
welcome note and narrator's part of speech. Some how shre tried to being the very plastic smile on
her face pretending to be the 'Karta Dharta' with her dialogues.
Well somehow the play started and to make it more badly we did not make the notice board (a prop)
for the last part of the play. Brains backstage again started working and on stage everything was
going wrong. The music did not play on time; people started forgetting their dialogues (which were
hardly one liner). And at the last scene of the play we played our best part to make it the weirdest
something ever done on stage.
One nice thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people.

A vodka carton was sent to from behind the curtains as our notice board prop. The cameraman, in
spite of our great artistic acts got attracted by the carton and zoomed it the largest extent. The only
thing which appeared on screen was a four letter word 'FUEL'.
All our labor of putting two cm. thick layer of makeup over our faces went worthless. To our surprise
the play came to an end with a bash, everybody applauded and enjoyed each part of play. But for us,
(who knew the full inside story) it was a total mess. Remembering that historic event, I still keep on
laughing alone for hours, on our stupid, idiotic plans and not so winsome acts.

Can man live from bread and water alone? Taken symbolically yes, though this requires a mental
level close to the one akin to irrational animals, in the same sense as these go through life without
any intellectual interests. Yet, even at such a reduced level, a man could not avoid replying to a
political discussion, to give his opinion, however fragmentary and limited, however unconnected
and copied from what he heard others say on a given issue. In every man, excepting those poor
creatures who suffer from dementia or a physically damaged brain, or those who never reached
the level of the faculty of reason or abandoned it voluntarily at any moment of their life, there is an
intellectual level involved. Given these considerations, no man can live from bread and water alone.
Even if such a man would say that art does not interest him, he will be entrapped both by the
beauty of a wonderful sunset and by the delicate capacity of the artist who is painting it. Even at a
low level, his brain would suddenly be confronted with art and all the inspiration it transmits and
he would emerge from the experience feeling either an uplifting vigor or a depressive
disheartening which he may not be capable to explain but which would engulf him anyway.
This being so, we notice already that just as no man can live from bread and water alone he can also
not live – as religious people would want this to be – from "spirit" alone, for spirit is just another
word for conscience and conscience implies both the recognition of
existence and the use of intellectuality.

Eternal Spaces
You search for your space, and not by physicality but the inner space of your
mind...unconquered and inane. You travel. You read. you discover your inside out but still you fail to
find that "space"...that nothingness in you ... the one which might kill you and at the same time
keep you breathing...the one which is your strength as well your broken spine...the one which is
both you and your alter ego....you try and search for it...and at the end you realize that all your life
what you've been searching is nothing but your real "self"...the one that makes you and as well
breaks you!
The average man does not know what to do with his life, yet wants another one which will last forever

THINKING OF YOU
in empty class rooms..on vacant chairs In my heart
in morning metros...to the last of few stairs is where you'll stay
on flightless runways..to the hollow stares thinking about you
at the ends of all... I search for my space. each and every day……
from the nothingness of the soul...to the hollering of my mind Some things that happened
from the lonely mornings ..to all the pleasures I don't find
were beyond my control
from the earth beneath my feet...to the end of my vision
I search for the only.. the only space of mine. it hurts sometimes
but I had to let go……
and as I lie down
all perished and jaded Our love was strong
Search no more...for my time has come it felt so real
and right amidst the half lived years sometimes I questioned
the half spent joys..and the incomplete selves the things you feel……
I see "it" mourning...for I failed to find
....for I failed to find the "self" of mine
There are no regrets
In its enigma it holds me tight... not one, it's true
walks me careful, quite and safe but God only knows
with an honour to my soul..and tears for my death the reasons we're through……
I see it walking me ...right till my grave !
Be filled with laughter
and maybe some smiles
sending warm wishes
along all these miles……

‘We can't call people without wings angels, so we call them friends instead'.
I still remember the time when all my friends and I were enjoying the
last few days of our school. We had already started singing songs of parting.
The very thought of doing anything and everything alone, without any of my
childhood friends was hurting.Together, all of us made number of resolutions
and promises of keeping in touch always. On our farewell day, none of us
cried because we were confident that we would never lose contact. All of us
finally, parted.
For the first two months, we called each other and stayed in touch as promised. But
gradually, as we got involved more and more in our new lives, all the resolutions seemed to fade.
New friends entered my life and old friends I started to lose.
Some where in my heart, I wanted all my old friends back in my life but I didn't have the
courage. What if they didn't respond? What if they were no more my pals? One fine day, finally, I
mustered up the courage and called one of my closest friend and what I found was a boundless joy
and happiness. Though I could not see her but I was sure somehow, that I have once again got the
same old pure and unconditional love from my buddy.
That is when I realized that friends do not need to stay in touch actually just the thought that
they are there is enough.
Now, I often sit back and wonder,

TOTAL RECALL
Today, I stand on the accomplishment of a significant milestone whilst beckoning another struggle
in my journey to the attainment of my goals of life. So, recalling about this milestone, a kind of
nostalgia engulfs me these days. These four prime years of my life have transformed me from a
schooled boy into an engineered adult.
I was a technical toddler (although that I am still …!) when I stepped into this institution with
crazy looks and boosted up spirits. But since then the time seems to have just passed in a moment.
There were some crucial, some crazy, some stressful, some funny phases in these four years of
college that can definitely be attributed to all the important changes and developments in my
persona as you see today.
In the very first year, the college seemed to be a den of lions. Every time hiding away from our
seniors (and some terrible seniors!!) and yet doing masti was the routine of first year. Ragging used
to be the utmost fear during those initial days. But just after a few weeks we had come closer to the
college fraternity and got acquainted quite a bit with the process of learning that was altogether
different from that of my school (the most strange things I faced was starting every day's classes
without the morning assembly and bell !!!). I was exposed to an entirely new set of people as
classmates. It was fun making new friends and getting mixed as a community. A lot of people would
open up in the last two years only. So you would never know in the first look that you could be in a
close touch with them for the years to come. This is how you discover your (or rather I had
discovered my…) circle of friends.
Those days had one thing that did make me crib most of the times. Having cleared the IIT-
Mains exam (though with quite a poor rank) I wanted to be belonged to my league of people only.
But in the classrooms, when I appeared akin to my peers who were not of my league, it hurt me hard.
I don't know if it was my self ego or a natural human tendency that made me strive to get
distinguished out of the crowd. But it was the first semester result that gave me a substantial relief
for the first time. The good thing in me was I never saw myself lost even if that meant not being
noticed. I enjoyed the life but I did complain.
It was now time for the second semester to strike at my door. But it wasn't alone. A disastrous
and tragic time was accompanying it. Facing it was really difficult and torturous but I had to that. The
blow that my family went through was all unexpected and created catastrophic consequences. So,
overcoming it and giving the foremost priority to my aspirations and responsibilities was my
objective then. Now I can say that have fared well enough in this.
The consequent years were altogether a new phase of life for me. Apart from engineering
subjects the exposure to the galore of technologies had fascinated me since then. Most interesting
semesters were after the third one when the core computer science starts engulfing your brain and
you begin exploring insights into them. But unfortunately, my insights, explorations and
understandings of the concepts never materialized into tangible scores on my marksheets.
Irrespective of my efforts in the preps, my scores remained ironically disproportionate. It was every
time a big bang in the heart (I hope most of us share this bang) and I had to satisfy myself with just a
word “never mind!!”.Well 'forgetting the lost battle and charging for the one ahead' continued to be
my mantra (though it is still….). But the insatiable quest to prove my prowess was there somewhere
in my heart that had pricked me all through out. Thanks to all minor successes in the mean while
that always stimulated me to fight even harder…till today!

II- Year
You could hardly imagine the shock I went through when I realized that I would be the first
boy to begin the competition, my nimble fingers were held by the teacher and I was led to the stage
and“the mike”was handed over to me. Guess what??
My mind completely went blank as I gasped at the object held in my hand. I am sure I
appeared lost and it was obvious that I had forgotten the purpose of my presence before the
audience.
Suddenly my vacant look fell on a tree which was always there in the compound. In my fear it
appeared as though it stood taller than me as though telling me “we have to occupy our place in
this world and do our bit, fear nothing”.The tree was in bloom and the flowers were swaying with the
wind as though telling me to join them in their dance.
I was shattered by the sound of the buzzer which was rung to tell me my time was over,
needless to say that I was disqualified from the competition. But, I qualified for life for that very
moment I promised myself I will never let my fears rule me. Im precious and Im different yet I've to
contribute to the harmony of the nature.
The moment came again after 3 years when once again I participated in another
competition. There as soon as I held “the mike” I was in total command of my fears and I did my job to
the best, it was indeed the best for I bagged the first prize.
I stepped on stage to receive my prize from the chief guest. The same tree was there. It was
again in bloom. Today I could also feel my spirits away in a dance, with that of the flowers, with the
wind.
Don't be angry at a friend who told your secret, for neither could you keep it to yourself.

Interpretation of the Shiva- The Destroyer
Long time ago in a discussion I had read that a very strange idea. The idea stated that the
destructive ethos of the Hindu society can be attributed to the fact that we worship Shiva- the
Destroyer and not the Brahma-the creator. In that we don't respect the creator but the destroyer
giving rise to destructive mentality.
However I contested the idea. For e.g. Even as we continue to worship Shiva, Hindus
historically have neither invaded any country nor destroyed any civilization in the past. Never did it
display any destructive behavior in its entire history of 5000 years.
The ideology behind the destroyer is that the destroyer destroys the Evil and not the
creation. Let's see this example:
When plantation of crops is done on a field the, the planter is the creator. Now if the field is
left like that the crop will outgrow itself, weeds will surround the field and insects will wipe away the
entire crop. Now that man who cuts away the crop is the destroyer. Here destroyer is of supreme
importance in realizing the creative value of the creator, perhaps even more important than the
creator. Thus the creator and the destroyer work in tandem.
Similarly, If only the society was created and no caretaker was made, then it is natural for the
antisocial elements to mess up the society. Thus some form of regulation is necessary; someone
must be entrusted with the power to clean the society. Thus the destroyer is the main force that
exists in the society to act against the evil and let it live. So we worship the Shiva to destroy the evil
created by the creator himself. And make this world a better place to live in.

3 Sides of the same coin
From the very childhood, every children is imbued and asked to follow certain rules and principles. The elders on the basis of their
experience in life tell us what to do and what not to. We are expounded to discriminate between the good and the bad, the right and the
wrong. The elders, our teachers, parents all tell us to adhere to the right path, avoid the bad things and live an archetypical life.
Keeping in mind, these teachings we take decisions in life about doing things with a view to do always good or correct thing. When
we come across certain quandary or bafflement, we choose the right alternative and follow it, believing that the other option is the wrong
one. Thus we can say that everything has two sides/facets like the two sides of a coin. But, in life many a times we are not fully correct and
completely wrong. Still in such problems we consider only one side of the coin or rather contrive the second side too. This state of being not
fully correct and wrong is the third side of the coin. This third side has no physical existence. This third side is implicit and important. Only time
reveals this third side.We never accent to this side and live our lives and take decisions.
We are always taught about the good and the bad(white is good and bad is black), always to be good or to be on the white side. But,
actually there cannot be an entirety of white or black. There is the third side, the gray side. This third side could be understood with some of
our experiences in life. In our diurnal life, many times we have to lie for our sake or for the benefit of somebody else. But our childhood
tutelage say that lying is a bad thing, thus it means that we all are on the black side and we are bad. Is it so??? Will this make you feel guilty???
No absolutely not, though you are not completely white too. Now where will you put yourself in this situation ( as the bad one/ black side or
the good one/white side). In this case, you can emphatically put yourself on the third side, i.e. the gray side. This gray side exists only because
of black and white. You can have different shades of it which I would say will tell you the amount of good or the bad in you.
Second example could be of two very close friends. They had shared the best of times with each other and known each other very
well. But, someday they started quarreling, everything shattered just because of a misunderstanding. Both of them with their egos very high
considered himself correct and didn't looked for the third side. Time passed and their animosity increased. This time however showed
them the third side too, where they had the realization of their mistakes. But in this time period the animosity between them had
intensified so much that they cannot have the same relationship again.
Thirdly you can see this third side in expectations too. When we do something for somebody we generally expect
something from that person. But in many cases, the person doesn't acknowledge you and help you in your time of need. This hurts
you and you develop bad regards for that person.
Nevertheless it could be possible that the person wanted to help you but under some
circumstances he could not. Most of us don't consider this side and stop helping others.
So is it that altruism is bad???? No, just follow the words “ Never expect anything from
anybody” (considering the third side).
Well I have realized the importance of this third side and now I consider it in
everything I do. This has saved me from getting gloomy and sad along with the feeling
of being guilty. Through experiences of daily life I tried to give you an idea of the elusive
third side, think on it and you will also find it around you……

Are You a Hummmmer too??
I wonder from which language the word “hmmm” comes from! Is there a dictionary meaning
of this word? I suppose no, since it is such a multi-purpose word. I've noticed something that no matter
which country you belong to and what language you speak, everyone seems to understand it. Mind
you, it is very addictive! Every one out of three people I meet on Orkut are addicted to it. And why
not! It can be the answer to anything and everything! When you are short of words you can use
"hmm". When you have a lot to say but "cannot" then also "hmm" comes to your rescue! I always
relate hmm with mystery! It can mean soooo much. It fills up gaps and breaks silences.
When someone is deeply engrossed in narrating to you the tale of his life and you want to assure
him that you're listening and that you understand...it's always best to use hmmmm. One angry look
and a stressful hmmm is enough to shake a child and stop him from picking up too many biscuits
from the plate at a relative's place .One naughty smile and a sweeeeeeeeet hmmm can make your
partner giggle with joy. One "innocent-puppy-dog" look in the eyes and a pleaaaaaaading hmmmmm
can make your father buy you an expensive watch which you were denied earlier
Seeeee, "hmmm" is such a life-saving equipment !It just depends on how you use it.
Hmm (a reluctant "yes").
Hmmmm (A simple "yes").
Hmmmmmmmmmm............("I'm thinking" Note the effect of the multiple "m"s and dots :D).
hmmmm(**yawn**).
Hmmm?("What?").
Hmmmm???????????("Excuse me!Come again").
Hmmmm!!!!!!("Ohhhhhhhhhhhho!Ahem Ahem").
Hmm??!!&*$#@@??!!("Huh?").
UmmHmmm(As in "offffo").
hmm hmmmm hmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
("Ok!Ok!Stop !Enough!").
Smileys added along with hmm can also convey various meanings .....

Au revoir...
(Good bye till we meet again)
In class 8th or may be in 7th, I had last visited my ancestral village in Chhindwara,
there after I had kept myself busy. Each time situations built around to give a visit, I just how managed to
given some flabby excuses and absconded in the jungles of books I had .Finally after getting placed
thought I have entered a new domain in life and this would further restrict me from going to Chhindwara,
so finally I decided to accompany my parents in this visit which they often gave without me. They share
same opinion over this topic, that I must see our farmhouse and those farms which were ours during
Zamidari era ,and meet the villagers who see my family with lot of respect and even share some DNA .So
now , zamidars are shrinked to few acre farmhouse and fragments of land and me, a Driver cum tourist
and my parents acted as guide, giving details about almost everything irrelevant to me initially, but
gradually instilling in me the sense of pride and most importantly a sense of being belonging to a rich
culture having a blend of royalty in it.
This was my first long drive, we woke up early and left for Chhindwara, en route we
performed puja and holy dip in sacred Narmada river at Hoshangabad where my maternal uncles and
aunts joined us .There after journey was smooth as road was newly constructed, at some places I even
raced with my uncles cruiser, they often won (Diego gratia!!!! I had a petrol engine to blame and a
debutante driver). We had some tea breaks in the middle. I noticed the green fields ,canals , and we even
crossed Satpuda Wild life Sanctuary on our way ,throught the journey cold was really biting and AC's
heat was frequently covering dew on car's glass shield ,thus putting a veil on me and making my driving
difficult ,and I can't dare to switch heaters off at that time when temperature was 3 deg. I had to wipe
them off (dew) frequently making driving an irritating affair. After a lengthy journey of about Eight
hours I was there in my ancestral village. I was greeted and welcomed not only that day but another days
to come with so much of warmth and affection ,that in hindsight I felt ,I must have visited here very often
,the hospitality was unmatched. This village's name is Doongaria small but a prosperous country side ,
except a big problem of electricity. I visited my farmhouse too at Pavaama, it was same some years back
except those Power Grid Tower erected on our nearby farm and a high voltage lines shadows of which
parted our farm diagonally. My father articulated some of his plan regarding that farmhouse ,he is now
retired and like any other retired officer he wants peace around him now ,away from city life
where he cared for government and bureaucracy more than himself for Thirty long years. Where else
one can get that peace, other than farmhouse.
How would you ever know if a word was mis-spelled in the dictionary?
Kaleidoscope
For five days I stayed there and entire tour was rejuvenating .I also visited my maternal uncle's farm beside
river and saw another one which was almost a hill ,completely covered by green layer of crops. Eating fresh Peas
,Chana, and am in the backyard of ancestral 'Haveli' roods with law beside river was a treat to my mind ,he had the
same opinion as that of my father's about life at farmhouse but can't afford a retirement being a Doc.It was a family
get together sort of ceremony ,my grandmother's small statue was installed in the backyard of ancestral 'Haveli'
hers' was engraved on a shield of stone of about one sq.ft. She left us this Jan It was there where the second sense I
stated in last line of first para aroused ,the place where this stone shield was installed in the backyard of
ancestral 'Haveli' had many similar stone shields and statues .This place is our temple, where we worship our
ancestors on par with god. They were arranged in about 4-5 rows my grandmothers' was fixed in fifth. Statues in 1th
rows were more than 500 year old!!!! and some older statues has got buried in the back of 1st one ,as there is a
custom that once installed cannot be disturbed again as this may annoy them. in the backyard of ancestral 'Haveli'
Some even relate it with reincarnation .Some stone shields show my ancestors, holding and waving sword riding
on a horse and some looked imported from Harappa with a good artistic work on stone .Every family member of
mine will be treated the same way, some day by generations to come because the custom is alive with pride. Now
more than an Infoknight (L&T's employees are called infoknight) I felt proud of being a Partety, difficult and mirth
provoking to those who don't know this great culture.
Finally I was here in Bhopal after a fun filled and eye opening experience, but here life is
different if I fail to get a top B-school or a job, chances are there that I return to same farmhouse .Now I feel each
of us must visit those places where we belong to, to see those customs and tradition which makes you what
you are some one more than Hindu or a sect of it.

On the evening of 19th we got the final concession form from the students. We also got the
advance amount and so the reservations were done. A day before I did all the remaining paperwork in
college.
Dear Goa
On 26th we left for Goa, a place that brings to mind the beautiful images of beaches, clear
sands and sea lashing against the earth. As again without any prior accommodation and this time we
didn't even get any, we spent the night in a dormitory. Goa was a different fun in itself. Unexplainable and
unfathomable!
In evening we had some problem in getting transport for the Kalinadi, which was situated,
in Ambicanagar, ss goan transports were not allowed to ply outside the state.
We finally left for Kalinadi at 9:20 .We had a continuous 4 hour journey in the midst of national reserves.
The sides were covered with the beautiful stretch of greenery but it was yet another of a bumpy and the
road was worse than I had ever traveled. Finally we reached to the Kalinadi project at around 3.
“Hill view of Kalinadi was beautiful beyond estimation; with sun setting beyond the hills it was
looking ever more beautiful, I personally feel I have never seen something more beautiful before, in spite
of the fact that I have visited almost every place in the North India. Then we moved to the power
generating station. We were then briefed about the working, functioning of hydro alternator &
switchyard. Around 6:00 we started back and at 9 were back at natural reserves accommodation. The
dinner was pre arranged and since we all were hungry we attacked the food like anything.
In all it was a unique experience. All through the journey I had taken care not to hurt anyone's
sentiment and my sincere apologies to anyone whom I did. With due respect to my enthusiasm to know
more about places, I wish there's more to come in the years ahead!
The other alphabet to which I would like to bring your attention is lies far away in list, at the
end. And the fact says that no one can be saved from its wrath in India. You know it, you have seen it in
action and I don't think that you admire it. Its 'Q'.This very alphabet more than any other, and that includes
'I' has sucked our time for last hundred years. Where ever you move, you will see one Q (queue) in action.
Lets start from the very beginning of your life. Once you were here on earth your parents had to stand in
queue to get a birth certificate, later in another Q so as to get your admission in some school. Then when
you were in school then daily you had to stand in queue for prayers for various other things. But this is not
it, what ever we wanted we had to put our feet in some kind of Q or other. Even when we go to meet god,
at his place, we had to bear the pain of Q. Now you brain might have started churning more and more
experiences you had with Q, so I wont be adding up on your already existing pains.
So all in all before saying ciao, I would like to put a question, how would you define an
Indian intelligence and the answer is, in terms of IQ!

Few months back when I came out of the theatre after watching the most awaited film of the year “OM SHANTI

anticipation. I kept repeating her question in my mind for at least hundred times, but I stood speechless and
could not think of even one word that could add to her jolly good mood. So I somehow manage with just few
words “all the best!!”“Om Shanti Om” is not the only one that can be put into this category, but when I look at
the newspaper column to have a glimpse of the theatres and the movies shown by them, truly speaking it feels
like I need a reincarnation to find a movie which majority of our masses can digest. The overall concept of film
making has undergone a radical change, mounted on the axle of only and only profit making. Large number of
domestic theatres and overseas promotion let even a 'C' grade film to snatch its
total price and gradually make a profit in the Indian commercial
'bazaaa…r' of baseless cinema with confused audience dying
The third law states that “ to every action, there is thousand times more powerful reaction by the hero.” Oh
my God! I am impressed, confused and full of sorrow for my fellow beings thinking whether they are witnessing an

If you really want to come out of the dark room smiling, after tolerating three hours of exaggerating

Anyways, is it always so bad? Well miracles do happen everywhere and even our bollywood by stands
some of those miracles and fortunately some good movies are also made by chance! So, with movies like “Rang De

into the public consciousness. So lets not give up completely, after all its just the intermission and …picture abhi

This also reduced the number of pupils from 20 to 18.Then as if the godmother from a fairy
tail came one of our computer science faculty. We told her about all the dismay and she gave us a
ray of hope, assuring us that she would talk to the HOD. After a few days of negotiations and a
signature from the cultural head even the HOD agreed to shift the externals. Our joy knew no
bounds as we had climbed our first step to success.
We were participating in 2 major cultural events being held at IIT in addition to the on the spot
competitions like rangoli making, mehandi making, magazine designing etc. The major ones
included a Hindi play and a free style dance. Our practice session was of two hours everyday. Since
I belonged to the dramatics group, I could only tell about our 'jamming sessions'. After lot of creative
thinking in the group itself we decided to ask somebody senior who already had experience in the
field of dramatics. At that point, being familiar with Mr.Shrikant Apte, a renowned theatre artist we
decided to ask him to direct our play. Being a very humble person he readily agreed to direct us.
The first 8 to 10 days was expected to be horrible so at that time bad acting, faults in dialog
delivery, bad timing, being expressionless didn't hurt much but when the play was not taking shape
even after 15 days, a disappointment crept over our director and he made us understood the
sincerity and dedication theatre required. From that day all of us became more serious about our
work. Now it was not just another play for us, but a responsibility we were carrying to not let down
our director's as well as our college's name. It was the very next day of our practice when first time
our director clapped for us. This was a milestone in the period of our practice sessions.
In between, our college scenario was also at its best. At this point of time we were
concentrating on getting funds. Since now all of us were quite determined to go to IIT, Kanpur so it
didn't really matter if we hadn't been funded by the college. But everything fell at place before going
to that extent and with the kind help of a few officials we got our dues paid off.
So now we were all set, 17 of us, ready for IIT Kanpur. Last but not the least, waiting for our
train at the Bhopal station we decided to call our group 'dare to be different'. It suited just fine.

Chak De India!
A MYTH OR A REALITY?
“Bolt from the blues”,“India rocks”,“Chak De India”,“Hard Hitters”,“Game changers”,“Dhoni ne
dho daala”… you might have guessed by now that these are some of the headlines that were seen all
over the newspapers after the splendid victory of our Indian cricket team in the twenty 20 world cup
finals.
A reason to celebrate, of course, but this victory definitely blew off the candles of
anticipation for the hockey lovers, who after the super duper hit and extensively appreciated hockey
based movie-'Chak De India' hoped that the national game hockey will once again regain its esteem and
importance. The huge commemoration after the twenty 20 win however made it very clear that in India,
it is always going to be cricket and people can not actually dare to think anything beyond cricket.
I always wonder what about cricket is so extraordinary, that even the smallest of details
are given gigantic media coverage. If you flip over the channels, you would probably think that Dhoni
has done something so miraculous that we ought to know the most trivial details of his life, even the
number of strands of hair he has, the number of liters of milk he gulps, the girl he dates and what not.
Not only media, but the government and even the common people are equally
responsible for this injustice being done with the other sports over cricket. People usually jump for no
reason after a single victory and very soon when India starts loosing matches; these very people march
towards the players' home and burn it.
Government while honoring the cricketers with huge cash rewards and other benefits
totally ignores the achievements of other sports persons.
In return to this V.V.I.P. treatment, our super hero cricketers don't play cricket on ground as
much as they play it in advertisements. They must learn something from our former badminton player P.
Gopichand, who after winning the England tournament, refused to all the offers to act in the add films
because he didn't want his followers to buy the things which he didn't!
The rage towards cricket and ignorance towards other sports among the Indian public
can hardly end and the scenario will probably remain the same forever. Even movies like 'Chak De India'
failed to leave a mark big enough to penetrate and sustain into the short-lived memories of Indian
people. The phrase 'Chak De India' is although being used everywhere but the main motive of the film has
however been forgotten. However, do you think, the movie completely failed? No, I think the movie did
contribute a little to the society…the girls would probably remember… “Chak de Chak de, ek hockey
doongi rakhke”,wasn't that a great shot??

There has long been a rock movement in India especially in cities like Mumbai, Calcutta, New
Delhi, Madras and Bangalore. Lounge acts, including swing bands were popular in 1950's, decade after
British left. Later in 1970's, the polydor, a German label began an Indian label distributing rock music.
From here the actual Indian rock started. The bands which kicked off were “Mystiks” from Mumbai,
“Beat-X” from Madras and “Flinstones” from Calcutta. This growing rock and roll scene was copacetically
joined by“Junior Statesman”.The band members mainly comprised of students and undergraduates.
With the arrival of MTV, tastes rapidly changed. People started following underground styles of
music like death metal, progressive rock, thrash and heavy metal etc. Bands formed in 80's such as rock
machine (later known as Indus Creed) altered their style with the influx of newer techniques from west.
The Indian sub-genre of fusion, which encourages a similar blend of ancient Indian music traditions with
rock music to“Raga Rock”,was also carried forward.
“Exodus”- a power rock trio ruled the rock scene in 80's-90's in India. The band also featured India's
first female singer Pearl.
And here we are today, we have Zero, Parikrama, Thermal and Quarter, Motherjane, Bhayanak
Maut, the list is endless. These men are making the country proud overseas.
Rock is penetrating into the hearts of people in metros as well as smaller towns of India. Rock is
permeating colleges, schools, campuses and everywhere.
The new era of Indian music and I stress on INDIAN MUSIC (not a music of western people as
thought by crab-minded people in India) is still on and will make it big someday. It will over power closed-
minded so called “musicians”of India.

SSB Allahabad- Chest No. 17
It was a season of excitement, a season everybody was waiting for college to begin, starting by 21st
of September. My excitement was further on a high tide as my call letter for SSB interview was to him my
door in 2 to 3 days.
It came and brought mixed emotions, uneasiness on my fathers face and I of course was happy.
Call letter said that I was to report at Allahabad on 21st of September by 7:00 am. It will be a seven day
physical and mental torture to get selected, and then a medical test which will take more out of you.
The hardest part for me in whole process was not go for the interview, but was to convince my
father to allow me to go there. After two days of sincere efforts my father agreed and half the job was
done. Wildness of forest fire was matching my preparations for SSB, it became a mania for me. I almost
consulted everyone I knew, books, physical exercise, interview questions became colleagues.
The day came and the train number 2124 arrived on the platform number three, reservation chart
said that berth number 26 of coach S-6 belonged to Vaibhav Khare. I occupied my seat and luckily I got
one of my friends going to the same place. Journey became lot easier, journey became a pleasure for me,
and we enjoyed every bit of it. There were a heap of candidates at the railway station, waiting for the
vehicle to arrive. I almost lost myself in those long, wide, emotionless faces. Anyways it did not take much
time for all of us to become friends. After reaching the centre the necessary documentation was done, and
I was given chest number 17, my new identity. The 'Subedar' showed us the way towards our barracks and
also dictated next day schedule. It said we were to get up at 5 am in the morning and report at the testing
ground by six. Then a psychology test and then the day will be called off. Probably it was the first time in
my life that I woke up that early, took a bath.Test was pretty good and I did my level best.
The barracks provided were the perfect example of 'unity in diversity', people from almost all the
states, north, south, east, west, were all brought to single room. Everybody shared about their culture and
felt proud on that. The day went by and so did different tests. The officers did their job immaculately, and
we also didn't do any thing which was not void.
The most important part in my test was the interview, Brigadier Khanna was a stout
personality, but was a cool guy. He was more interested in my friends of opposite gender;
you can call them 'girl friends'. He excavated every thing about them, even those which I
discovered that day itself. I really enjoyed my interview. Last day was the conference day;
results were to be announced, the moment for which all of us worked so hard.

A photograph says a thousand words. That is why television,” the source of talking pictures”,
dominates our lives and all channels of communication in this information age.
But dominating does not always mean it is the best. After watching cable TV for a year, I have come to the
conclusion that newspapers are a far better and worthwhile option. Of course, TV has its own positives,
but I feel newspapers have more.
First the biggest advantage of news papers is that readers don't need to alter their schedule or
pace of life for reading them. In the case of TV you've to adjust your schedule according to the timing of
your favorite programs. These days when everyone considers time is money, reading a newspaper means
saving a lot more of it.
Second you can watch only one program at a time .The remote control stays in the hands of one
person, who dictates the choices of others. But this is not so with newspapers. Family members can read
different pages according to their interests and availability of time.
Next of course, are those irritating advertisements! Newspapers don't compel you to read them.
You can flip the pages or just throw the ad supplements away. But on TV, there is absolutely no way out.
Watching a movie or a discussion on TV has become a nightmarish experience.
Jokes apart, let's come to the moot point. TV information is so rapid that it does not give you time
to think, analyze, evaluate and form your own opinion. Consequently, viewers become slave to the
opinion makers but where as newspapers are concerned, read them at your own pace, analyze each item
and build your own opinion. So after knowing so much, would I ever leave newspapers for an idiot box?
No, I am not such an idiot.

True merit is like a river, The deeper it is, The less noise it makes.
At the birth place of any river the depth is very less. As the length of river increases, the
depth also increases but due to increase in breadth of river its speed decreases. And thus that
decreases its noise. In the same way a child (just to come into existence) cries as much as possible. This
sound increases till one to two years, after that the knowledge starts increasing, and the noisy cry
changes into sweet words. As ones age increases the knowledge increase and the depth of experience
increases along with the responsibilities. That decreases the free time. That decreases noisy words.
Now the comparison of life with river is a common thing but the comparison of merit with depth is a
new one. But, I feel this is the greatest one. It is quite true that our merit determines our behavior. A
good merit holder is a man of few words.
Accordingly in Hindu mythology, great men used to meditate and do listen to one
another, they related to the inner voice. They realized that they have a greater knowledge that can
only be understood without making any type of noise.
“Life is not easy to understand for a human”, one who knows it never makes noise and clearly it
is realize by few people in our world. As they are scholars they have deeper knowledge to explore
which can not be done by any particle of noise.
Thus, the depth detects, noises intensity, The knowledge detects, voice's intensity.

Do it now
If you have a kind word to say, say it now
If you have something to give, give it now If there is a hope you can raise,
If you can make someone glad Or someone you can praise,
Do it now. Do it now. Do it now. Do it now. Do it now
Before it is too late. If you have trust to bestow do it now.
Now is the time for every good deed, If you have courage to give, give it now.
Do not wait until tomorrow. If there's pain you can ease
For it may be just a little too late. or someone you can please,
If there's good news to give, Do it now. Do it now. Do it now.
Give it now.
If there is friendship to show, show it now
If there is love to show, show it now. Anup Jawalkar

What hangs on a lamppost?
Recently a Supreme Court judge said that all judges should be hanged from a lamppost.
The subsequent reactions of legalists & media man were on course. But let us move from events to issues
& go from controversy to course.
If a survey is conducted about the unscrupulous of our politician, then most of the people
will agree with the SC judge.
There are laws to exterminate corruption built laws such as prevention of corruption act
doesn't seem to have any teeth at all .An abysmally small numbers of people are convicted the ones in the
net are only small fishes, the shark swim effortlessly out of the net. When was the last time that you saw a
politician behind bars on the corruption charges?
The prevention of corruption act [CGPA] is built on the provision that deals with having wealth
disproportionate to your known sources of income. With this provision, one can think that this will be a
wonderful law for our politicians. Correct. Ah! But not now the chief reason lies within the act in the
investigating and prosecution machinery of the government. So why on earth, a politician will impeach
himself through his own government.
Even if a politician is indicted, the best lawyers engender a plethora of procedural and
hyper-technical objectives, that this black turned white money can arrange. And once a court admits any
of these, the case thereafter rests in peace, till someone comes and exhumes it. (But this never happens
except of bitter rivalry in politics)
Let us exemplify some of these famous (or notorious) objections. One of the most common
objections is that all the documents are in English and our Hindustani Netaji doesn't know this language,
so what if he has lawyers speaking flawless English. The voluminous documents thus must be translated.
One more very common objection regarding the legal validity of the special courts that are created to try
high placed politicians is that it takes minimum of a couple of years in our legal system for a high court to
decide about this special court.
There are many more of these trivial but very effective objections. We really
don't see judicial orders mandating time bound schedules for the trials even after long
months of rigmarole. So what can be possible solutions, well one of them can be to make the
trial on a day-to-day basis, so that the courses can be dealt with as soon as possible. There
must be an exit policy, that shows any corrupt politicians or bureaucrat, a door into the prison
cells & this will surely bring the much needed deterrence and cleaner public life.

important environmental issue.Human and natural drivers of climate change includes changes in
the abundance of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 , NO) that traps heat and prevents it from radiating out
into the space. Aerosols (example: - dust) in our
Atmosphere, changes in solar radiations and changes in the properties of the land surface largely caused
by human actions add to the already vulnerable cause.
Greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere has increased enormously as a result of human
activity since 1750.The increase in CO2 is primarily due to the use of fossil fuels. There is a very strong
scientific evidence to indicate that the final effect of human induced climate change is one of increasing
air and ocean temperature around the world.
Nearly 80% of this increased heat is being absorbed by the ocean and it has caused warming to
depths up to 3000mts, the warm sea water expands and contributes enormously to the rising of sea level.
Glaciers, ice and snow cover have decreased rapidly all over the world as a result of the increased
temperatures and has also contributed to rise in sea level .Sea levels have been raising at an average
1.8mm per year 1961 to 2003 and at a much faster rate in 1993 to 2003 with no sign of slowing down.Wide
spread changes in patterns of rainfall, wind ocean salinity & extreme weather including heat waves,
draught ,intensity of tropical cyclones and very heavy rainfall have also been established .
All these changes have had severe and negative impact on most forms of life including human
beings. Agriculture has been affected by the increasing unpredictability of the climate .with the
accelerated and intense melting of glaciers the perennial water flows in major river system including the
Ganga is being threatened. Human impact on global climate system is so strong that even if we are to
instantly stop all activities that contribute to climate change, the global temperature is still expected to
increase at .1degree centigrade per decade for the next 2 decade.

1000 years). But one can't claim the end of the world because of a calendar. A few month's later, a
computer software which predicts future almost accurately every time when a big calamity is on the

“Ma! Ma!” cries the small boy, his broad curls shorn to a violent crew cut. Unable to make himself heard over
the occasional bang of cupboard doors and the high muttering voice speaking half to itself, the boy sidles
over to his mother clad in a red dressing gown, clutching a bunch of red canna flowers in his left hand, which
he keeps behind his back in a desperately half-hearted attempt to hide them. His mother, agitated over
something, continues rummaging aimlessly in her cupboard, speaking to herself.
A deep sigh escaped his mouth, the only outward sign of his
inner turmoil. Looking at his smooth forehead and smiling lips,
nobody would have suspected the depth of the agony he
experienced. It was only when you looked at his hands, knuckles
beginning to turn white, fists clenched, that the rage was visible.
His eyes, either constantly darting about nervously or fixed in a
cold, dead contemplation of nothingness, were opaque with
sadness. He looked at the empty can of beer that had fallen to the
floor, which he had crushed in his hand without realizing it.
A cigarette is a pinch of tobacco, wrapped in paper, fire at one end, fool at the other.
Total Recall
The child cowers in fear, looking at the red canna scattered on the floor. He had spent so much
time collecting them from the pond nearby, nearly slipping in the mud. They lay strewn all about him, on the
floor and on the neatly folded saris on the bed.
You son of a bitch! Are you crazy? Are you deaf? How many times have I told you”
Slap
“not”
Slap
“to come”
Slap. Slap.
“to my”
Slap. Slap. Slap. Slap. Slap.
“ROOM! Haven't I told you to get out of my life? The next time you show me your disgusting little face,
“she looks about hysterically, her left eye twitching wildly now. The child's face is stained with tears, spit and
phlegm. His left cheek, which was swollen because of a cavity in his milk teeth, is stinging very badly, hurting
from inside.
“Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear Sagar, happy birthday to
me…” sang a clear, pleasant voice, shaking slightly towards the end. The rise and fall of the ditty was
accompanied by a waving finger conducting an invisible opera. The cheerfulness of the voice seemed all
the more eerie when juxtaposed with the manic, unfocused look in his eyes and his rhythmically rocking
body. He sat huddled on the floor. The lone candle on the cake had already left a mount of molten wax on
the icing.
“Don't remind me! I hate sharing this day with you! I should have killed you the second you were born,
except that it was YOU,” she screamed, flinging bottles of her expensive Chanel red nail polish at the child,
“who nearly killed ME!” One bottle, which was open, flew through the air, sending red nail polish across the
room, and struck the child above his right eyebrow, drawing blood. A few cracked on the floor, leaving puddles
of red slush. Another struck a mirror and sent some shards of glass in the room.
“I hate you! I hate myself for giving birth to such a filthy piece of useless junk like you!” her flailing arm suddenly
struck a mirror and it started bleeding very badly. Thin rivulets of blood covered her arm, and she screamed in
pain and rage.“Get out of\my life and never come back! Get lost!” Her voice now touched an ugly, high-pitched
tone as she tottered her way across the room. Her soles were punctured with shards of the broken mirror, and
left grotesque, red footprints on the white marble floor.
Total Recall
The child, scared to the bone, tried to slide backwards on his hands and feet. The glass cut into
him in many places, and he could hear his mother shout, “I hate you! It's because of you that Anand left me!
It's because of you that I can't have my beautiful girl!” Crying now because of the pain, the child grabbed the
few petals of canna remaining in his hands and half ran, half crawled out of the beautiful room, now almost
entirely red in his terrified imagination. He could still hear her shouting, “You made me barren, you bloody
piece of sleaze!”
Red.The colour of forgetfulness
…How cold the metal felt against his skin. The light from the sole lamp still lit in the
aesthetically designed room reflected glacially from the razor. He again felt it against his chest, already
scarred with many lines. He felt in love with his own body, his skin is so soft, so supple and light. The blade
cuts it so easily, the blood flows so quietly in streaks across his chest, that he marvels at the machine that
must have sharpened the edge of the razor. He slowly pulled it downwards towards his stomach,
carefully lifting the blade till it was only the point of the razor that cut ever deeper.Wincing with pain, he
reached out for the bottle of vodka at his side, and with all his pent up vengeance slashed at his forearm,
sending more drops of blood on the floor. Laughing and in pain, he poured the entire content of the
bottle on his head.
As the vodka singed into his fresh wounds, the pain reached a blinding white heat,
temporarily blocking the red from his mind.
“Happy birthday to us…”
And he let out another deep sigh. The only witness to this silent scream of years of unresolved guilt and
pain was the Moon, shining steadily in the sky as the clouds parted.
A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I enter the room. There are three people An old lady (A), and two young men (B,C) & me (I).They ask me to
sit down. And keep my files on the adjoining chair.
B:What is that in your hand? (Referring to the college magazine 'WAYS', instant attention held by the very colorful cover)
I:That is our college magazine and I have designed the cover page of it.
B: (takes the magazine in hand) So what does it signify
I: sir it signifies the cosmos and the human mind exploring it….the way human intellect is exploring the
deepest corners of space….blah blah…those bright spots are stars….blah blah.
A: So why you should go into designing field why do you want to become a manager?
I: ma'am I think my creativity can also flow into business world, I can come up with out of the box
solutions.
C: 'Out of the box' solutions, give me an example of it.
I : Gave an Example and some analysis figures as support.
C: So yash you were deputy education minister in your school, so give me two steps that you will
take as a finanace minister.
I: sir first I will continue the reforms secondly I will encourage tourism
C: no you are finance minister not tourism minister
I: As finance minister I will give a huge allocation to tourism.
A: ok yash what kind of budget are you expecting this time?
I: ma'am budget this time will be populist, inspite of all that P Chidambaram might want to do, other MPs
would coerce him into giving a populist budget.
A: give me two reasons why do you think budget will be populist?
I: first I have read that the (govt.) is going to waive the loan of the farmers. The total expanse will be 60,000
crore, even if they put a cess the total amount collected will be 8000 crore. I am not able to figure out
where are they going to bring the rest of money.
Secondly, I have also read that they are going to raise the minimum support price of the food grains.
C: so yash what is the total percentage of people employed in agriculture?
I: 60%
C: and what is total contribution to the GDP?
I: 15%
Cano its not 15% but I will give it to you. So is there any point in uplifting the agriculture sector as it contributes only 15%?
I: I think there are millions of people in agriculture and they certainly need to be uplifted.
C: So what's the problem in waiving of farm loans?
I: Sir, we already make noise about lack of farm credit and if we waive off farm loans it will further give a
wrong signal to private investor. Before someone comes to invest his money we will have to convince him
that this is a good sector, profitable one to invest. Why would one invest in a risky sector?
A: But if you do realize that farmers are in a poor position then why cant we give them some benefits, relief?
I: Because Indian government welfare schemes are not focused properly, only 15% of what Indian
government spends reaches the actual targeted persons.
A: (Expresses surprise) 15% that means if you spend 5 lakhs…
I: then only 75,000 reach them..
A: Is it true? (Looking towards other panelists), from where did you get the figure?
I: Sir it was given by Rajeev Gandhi..
A: Rajeev Gandhi…? So is it necessary for India to keep spending for the poor?
I: yes sir India is a socialist country..so….
A: Socialist, (here they got something to harass me on) Is India a socialist country?
I: yes sir, India is a welfare state.
A: So what is America?
I: Sir, they rely on free market mechanism to achieve welfare for their people.
A: So why do you think India is socialist?
I: Sir its written in the preamble that India is a socialist, democratic etc etc….
B: Its written in the preamble! (Or ? I really don't know)
Some gibbering going on…
B: you are making too many assumptions…
Some more gibbering going on….
B: Ok you can leave..
I:Thank you ma'am,Thank you sir* 2 …

The greatest of the competitors fall without a mark and the heroes are born overnight. Nobody really knows who gets rich and
lucky. Only one thing is sure If you put in the hardwork there is some chance that it will not go waste. But what kind of
hardwork?
I think an intelligent mix of 2-3 kinds….So how many kinds of hardwork? At least three kinds of which I know-
1.Slogomania- Slog, slog and slog. Really burn the night oil and bunk the classes and study damn hard. Working with
single focus, passion and workmanship of an Ant to see through. Sometimes people who follow this strategy restrict
themselves to one room and the only thing they go out for is to attend coaching classes and tests.
2.Play it cool or By the dint of confidence: Wondering what kind is this? In this strategy you don't need to study very hard
but just studying enough, apprising yourself of all the material but in a lighter way. By studying light you never feel like in a
crisis and you don't take excessive load of performing on your head, you don't get nervous (remember CAT is a game of
nerves, confidence much more) but all the while simple study schedules keep you in good humor. I can give you examples
of people who studied very hard but lost due to excessive anxiety and fear of not performing .So this strategy sometimes
also justifies surprise results. Point is when you really play it easy you might end up giving the performance of your life.
3.Reflection of life: Once my instructor told me that your performance in aptitude tests is a reflection of your life. It's a test
for the skills that you have learnt all your life. Wondering what skills? I have an answer to it at the end. I agree to some
extent with this for written round but the thing is almost certain in interview round. So a lot of times people with
outstanding profiles and extra curricular brilliance simply sail through these exams…Notable are some IITians who make
it to these schools don't even prepare it. They probably have prepared for it all their lives. And then there are others. Moral
of the story is that keep participating in extra-curriculars, you never know when it all will make you rich.. getting back to
what skills? If you have had interest in reading for pleasure (Im not counting Sidney Sheldon stuff or may be one night at
….. kinda books in it. These books might be interesting but my personal view about what they contribute to your reading
skills is that they contribute minimally except getting you started), skills like interest in current affairs mags, newspapers,
giving presentations, making reports, speeches, elocutions, debates ala and all. And interesting you will discover that if
you are in the right company you may end discussing important GD topics as a matter of daily conversations.(Have an eye
for a future GD). Plus have a backbone-That is have an opinion about things around you. Having an opinion is better than
having having none. Those who have an opinion will naturally have more to discuss in a GD.

After the normal course of introduction, the first question they asked was
Que:-Don't you thing watching movies is a pastime and you have mentioned it as your hobby?
Ans:-Sir, Hobby is something in which you give a good amount of time and gain something out of it. So
watching movies is a hobby for me.
Que:-What have you learned from movies?
Ans:-Sir, Movies like “Mississippi Burning” made us aware about the Civil rights movement of United
States and thus generates overall awareness.
Que:-What do you know about the Civil rights movement, role of Martin Luther King and the US
President of that time?
Ans:-I vomited out everything in front of the interviewers whatever I knew about the Civil rights
movement.
Que:-Tell us something about the Civil rights movement in India?
Ans:-I quoted various examples of social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy etc. and explained the
present scenario of caste system in India especially in Eastern U.P.
Que:-Ok, Presently,What measures are being taken by the Government to have the social reforms?
Ans:-I told them about the establishment of Ajax stations and the different education schemes.
Que:-In this educated society, why this casteism is still prevalent?
Ans:-Sir, today people are educated but they don't have rational education. [I gave my views regarding
rational education].
Que:-What was the role of B.R. Ambedkar and Jyotibha Phule in India?
Ans:-I thoroughly explained about the two.
Que:-Let's talk about Maths, how much you remember?
Ans:-Sir, Maths up to 12th standard.
Que:-Which section was your favourite?
Ans:-Algebra [Then they asked me a question on Matrices and I couldn't answer it].
First there were engineers and then they became managers. Changing times, Changing patterns but one thing remains same.
We love big time money. We want to Acquire Big-time Money and whoa I just spelt MBA backwards- Acquire Big-time Money. I
think that the sudden interest with words, vocab and English which for the last many years was deemed fit to be in grave with
the Shakespeare by the layman has suddenly got everyone interested. Don't tell me you haven't heard of Freud or Bertrand
Russell (of course taking their name in the same vein is a blasphemy!).We have come across them in our VA passages and again
when we curse their wisdom for the sheer mayhem they just created in our VA scores!
And then we just suddenly fall in love with the tables.Yes data tables, pie charts suddenly seem an integral part of our life's pie.
All the fractions and reciprocals become the new romance of life. But hey we are getting off-track. The track is we want too see
the dollar-lining on this dark cloud and sizzling pinkslips at the end of this intellectual harassment.
Honesty and Integrity of a person is the most important thing to look for in a prospective candidate but its not an essential
quality. You can make it even otherwise. But again what is Honesty and Integrity is most often a personal opinion. Nothing is
black & White in this world instead what we have here is an infinite shade of grey. Infinite shade of grey!

Introduce Yourself….
A: I gave my Introduction and told them about my career objective and strengths.
What is marketing?
A: There are two aspects of marketing one is finding out consumer demand and delivering it in feasible
manner and another aspect is to create demand for your products in the market.
How will you find out consumer demand?
A: Sir, I will be having a sales team with me and we will conduct market surveys/ interact with the client
directly.
What is the difference between a DVD and a VCD?
A: Disc store data in pits using light. In a DVD these pits are smaller and closely spaced apart and therefore
we need a finer laser to read and write on a DVD.
Tell me about Jonathan Livingston's SEAGULL? (Book I have read)
A:This book is about realizing your dreams even if it requires you to do something which can make you an
outcast from the flock.
Are you trying to follow this teaching in your life?
A: I will definitely try.
What are your hobbies?
A: Reading books and playing Cricket.
At what level have you played Cricket?
A:With friends. ( Ok gully cricket and the interviewers started laughing)
What knowledge do you have about finance?
A: Not much but I know something about banking.
If you were the finance minister what one thing would you implement in this budget?
A: I will reduce taxes on vehicles.
Don't you think that we already have too many vehicles around?
A: Yes, but 46% of vehicles sold in India are sold in rural areas but only 25% rural people have this 46% of
vehicles.
When we are making cheap cars like NANO then we should contribute to make it all the more affordable.
What are the problems the country is facing today?
A: Uninclusive growth. Around 30% population still lives below poverty line.
Literacy rate is very low,Then implementation problems (80% of subsidized money for education
reaches the destination in Kerala while in Bihar only 20% reaches)
How will you solve these problems?
A: Build more of infrastructure, supply chain management .
Do you read a news paper ?
A:Yes,The Times of India.
What do you read in the newspaper?
A: I read the main editorial article. Rest I do not follow it very strictly.
But editorial is the last thing one would read, why do you read it first?
A: But I do get to know some problems of the country which are generally not given in the entire
newspaper.
So tell me one recent article that caught your attention?
A: Yesterday itself I read an article which throws light on the skewed sex ratio. The article mentioned that
girls from Kerala are moving to Haryana because of very low number of girls there to marry people in
Haryana.
Why everyone who is coming here is coming with the same article read? Are you having some
discussions outside?
A: I don't know how it can happen. But I read another article from the “Speaking Tree” section, which was
on love. (Yesterday being Valentines Day).
A: What is this Eye Donation camp in your College? How did you organise it?
A: Sir, we got eye donation forms from the donation centre in Bairagarh near Bhopal. The concerned person had to
fill the form and get it signed by another person who served as a verifier. We had all the faculties of our college
donating their eyes and around 150 students also donated their eyes.
Tell me about the paper for which you have won some prizes?
A: My paper is on Phishing. Phishing involves attacks from hackers who send emails to people who use services
from financial organizations. These emails look quite legitimate and ask you to enter your credit card number for
verification purposes. Around 2-3% of unsuspecting users fall prey to this and enter all the information. This
information is then sent to the hacker.
So how do we prevent this?
A: Sir, either we use an internet toolbar which consists of all the information about the website we are browsing. If at
all any information is missing its better not to enter any information. Otherwise when we work and secure servers
the http:// is replaced by https://. 's' denoting a secure server. If its not a secure server we should not enter any kind
of information about our accounts. Also we can verify the name of the website with the name of its digital
certificate. If it does not match it's a Phishing attack.
So I can tamper the certificate
A: Yes you can, and that's why I mention that unsuspecting users are caught in these attacks. In fact all the
certificates used by Phishing attackers are already tampered.
Which other calls do you have?
A: I took only CAT, XAT and IIFT. Missed out due to sectionals in CAT.
Which section?
A: English.
You're a Campionite, do you take your English for granted?
A: It was just a bad day I guess.
Ok Arpit, you can leave now,Thank you.
Thank you.
Last and may be least ! What is this ranking thing we have in B-Schools. Well its difficult for human mind not to compare things.
We really live and think relatively. So comparisons are done big time and students base their decisions a lot on the perceived
ranking .
Not always but many students find themselves locked in this predicament when they have to choose between two very similar
brands of B-Schools. But we need to get some scale. So here we have one.
1. Never go by the avg. salary packages of B-schools. There are a lot of reports on the net reporting how even the very
prestigious B schools give misleading salary figures.Your avg salary is calculated by your Cost-To-Company (CTC) package. The
CTC package can also include the money that company spends as giving you the space on its office floor, Which can be 4 lakhs
per annum, cost on your AC, other services…So just for nothing your salary can increase by 4 lpa…Also for a fresher except the
top 3 (Top 3 are IIM A, B, C) the opportunities across the premier B-Schools do not differ much. Also in other terms like faculty,
Peer groups etc all other top B-Schools are more or less the same. So if a college has a highest package in crores, don't jump-It
has been given to someone with years of experience in industry
Most of the rankings till now by various magazines have had a participation head count of 500-600 participants, which also
coupled with the fact that a lot of AICTE unapproved colleges also make it to top slots makes them dubious.
Also there are sectoral colleges that are the very best in their field..so it makes little sense to compare them..Its like comparing
orange with mangoes and trying to know which is better…and this ia very personal opinion. Personally the most reliable and
sane B-School ranking that I have come across is the PagalGuy.com rankings, they used a participation count of over 5000
people. So that makes it simply the largest exercise of its kind. Also the rankings are very sensible.
It goes like this 1.ISB, Hyderabad | 2.IIM-A| 3IIM-B|4.IIM-C| 5.XLRI, Jamshedpur | 6FMS, New Delhi |7.IIM-L |8.IIM-K
9. MDI, Gurgaon | 10.IIFT, New Delhi|11.IIM-I, | 12.SPJIMR, Mumbai |13.JBIMS, Mumbai |14.NITIE, Mumbai
So all the best, Hoping I have covered a liitle length of the unending saga of the Great B-School Tamasha.!!!

And such was our journey from the day few arbit minds
thought of publishing a magazine. And such is the
story of my team, fighting against backlashes,
listening to hard words, pulling through financial
crunches, waiting for innumerable notices, leaflets and
fighting against all odds to bring out this masterpiece
just for the sake that your voice, your talent is heard.
Just for the sake that the “I” in you breaks all shackles
and comes out!! In the course, we might have faltered
but as said “one's failure is the pathway to his
success” we will standby all our faults, defeats and
errors because with all that's coming to an end, we
desire to learn and deliver the best we can…and our
humility is strong because beyond all illusions we set
of few perky brains believe in ourselves…..
The ed-board as always will try its best to bring you
the best…today and ahead!!
