Add the following reference to Section 2.1: E 77, Test Method for Inspection and Verification of Thermometers E 220, Test Method for Calibration of Thermocouples by Comparison Techniques E 644, Test Methods for Testing Industrial Resistance Thermometers Replace the second sentence in Section 4.2 with the following: The volume of water shall be not less than 10 L. The depth of water shall not be less than 50 mm and such that the mold can be immersed to a depth of 25 mm. The water in the bath shall be substantially free from oil and slime or other organic growth. Add the following sentences to Section 4.4: Calibrate the thermometer according to ASTM E 77. An electronic temperature measuring device, such as a resistance thermometer or thermocouple, may be used. Calibrate electronic temperature measuring devices according to ASTM E 220 or E 644. Delete the following sentence in Section 5.1: Strain the melted sample through a 300-m sieve conforming to Specification E 11. Add the following note after Section 5.1: NoteMixtures of glycerine and dextrine or talc (3 g of glycerine to about 5 g of dextrine or talc has been used satisfactorily), Dow-Corning Silicone Stop-Cock Grease, or a mixture of castor oil and Versamid 900 [100:1 mixture by weight heated to 204 to 232C (400 to 450F) and stirred until homogeneous] have been proven suitable. Other release agents may be used provided results obtained are comparable to those obtained when using one of the above. Replace the second sentence of Section 6.2 with the following: Adjust the specific gravity of the bath by the addition of methyl alcohol, sodium chloride, or ethylene glycol so that the asphalt material neither comes to the surface of the water, nor touches the bottom of the bath, at any time during the test.
