DIET ANALYSIS: FOOD RECORD

DUE: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2, 2011 (midnight) on Blackboard NAME: Ryan OConnor__________________________ PART I : ONE-DAY INTAKE RECORD In the space below, keep a list or record of all the foods and beverages consumed on a "typical" August day. This listing is to include each food item and beverage in its discrete components (for example: PB&J sandwich could be 2 slices of whole wheat bread, 3T PB, 2T strawberry jam), an accurate measure of the food/beverage quantities and the time of day they were consumed. Please note that an accurate dietary record depends on accurate serving size estimates. You are encouraged to try to keep an accurate record of a typical day. The information will be revealing to you about your dietary patterns only if you invest the time and energy in this initial stage. PART II: RECORD OF FACTORS AFFECTING FOOD CHOICES 1. Please explain how each of these factors affected the food choices you recorded. Money/cost: With an unlimited meal plan, cost lost some weight as I already pay a set price. However, I do limit the price of snacks. __________________________________________________________________ Convenience: Convenience is very important especially in the morning. I like to eat a quick breakfast in my room. __________________________________________________________________ Cultural acceptability: Cultural acceptability has little effect on my diet as I will often eat foods people find unappealing. ______________________________________________________________________________ Personal acceptability: Personal acceptability plays a small role as I refuse to eat some foods that I find disgusting. ______________________________________________________________________________ Health considerations: I force myself to eat salad and other vegetables often; however, I dont really enjoy the taste. ______________________________________________________________________________ Hunger: Hunger is important in when I eat and has caused me to purchase unhealthy food on impulse._______________________________________________________________________ _______ It looked (or smelled) irresistible: This can happen if I see a dessert food such as cake that I find irresistible. ______________________________________________________________________________ Other (Please explain): I will often be influenced by food selection as well. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Please describe the relative importance to your food choices of each of the factors listed above. (That is, identify which factors were most important, which were least important, etc. and explain why.) The most important factor is convenience this dictates what I eat as it limits my ability to eat certain foods. Next is cost. I have actually limited the amount of unhealthy food as I just cant afford to buy more junk food. After is health considerations as I try to eat healthy; however I slip up at times. Next is food selection. I am fully restricted to what is available for me. Next is hunger. I will try to eat fruit while hungry, but I can impulse eat at times. This also includes irresistible looking food. Finally, cultural and personal accessibility are last, as I dont care what others think of my eating habits. 3
