ASSIGNMENT FOR THE SESSION 2011-2012
Class : IX Subject : Science & Tech.
Subject : Physics Q-1. Q-2. Q-3. Why does a person hit harder when he falls on a concrete floor than when he falls on a heap of sand from the same height. State and explain Newton's laws of motion and hence prove principle of conservation of momentum using Newton's third law of motion. A rifle of mass 3 kg fires a bullet of mass 0.03 kg. The bullet leaves the barrel of the rifle at a velocity of 10 m/s. If the bullet takes 0.003 s to move through its barrel calculate the force experienced by the rifle due to its recoil. A bullet of mass 10 g strikes a sand bag at a speed of 1000 m/s and gets embedded after travelling 5 cm. Calculate (a) (b) Q-5. Q-6. The resistive force exerted by sand on the bullet. The time taken by the bullet to come to rest.

Assignment No. 2

Q-4.

Calculate the acceleration due to gravity on the surface of a planet. Whose mass and radius are double than the mass and radius of the earth? A boy drops a stone from top of a building 100m high. Another boy throws an iron ball 2 seconds after the stone was dropped. Calculate the velocity with which the iron ball was thrown so that the stone and the iron ball strike the ground at the same time. The weight of a person on the moon is about 1/6 times that on the earth. He can lift a mass of 15 kg on the earth. What will be the maximum mass which can be lifted by the same force applied by the person on the moon? Subject : Chemistry
