3. WORK: CAREER PROSPECTS AREA OF WORK

The areas in which a Psychopedagogy graduate can work are the following: Public and private services or institutions of attention to children, young people and their families. Educational services or publishing companies (distance-learning material, guidance, self-learning material, etc.). Mass media: radio, TV, press. Research. Freelance work. As regards labour insertion, there are three things to consider: a) At present, the educational, psychopedagogical and professional guidance specialised services (SEOEPP) IN THE Valencian Community are the secondary school guidance departments, the school psychopedagogical services (SPE) and teams of experts. b) They can also work in non-formal educational contexts. c) Universities offer students and teachers assessment, counselling and continuous education services.

4. LECTURERS AND UNDERGRADUATES OPINIONS UNDERGRADUATES OPINIONS

The survey carried out on psychopedagogy undergraduates, during the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 courses highlights teachers personalised attention to students, their willingness to help and the communication flow established as positive elements. Students say that the subjects they study enable them to obtain a deeper understanding of a teachers job. It also provides them with the personal training they need to work as professional educational psychologists. Apart from that, students mention the participative and dynamic nature of the teaching methodology used in most subjects. The most outstanding elements of this methodology are group work and students participation in designing class activities, which make learning and communication easier. Students also find the idea of having interdisciplinary assignments for two or more subjects, which allows for a better coordination of different subjects, very positive. This is thought to be so important that students suggest it would be a good idea to extend this method to many other subjects in the following years. Finally, they insist on the need to find alternatives resources and solutions to the traditional tutorial hours to cater for those people who cannot attend lessons regularly.

LECTURERS OPINIONS
The teachers answers to the questionnaire handed out during the 2002-2003 course brought about the considerations we present below. They think this degree offers thorough training for both psychologists and professional teachers. It provides the former with psychopedagogical knowledge and the latter with extensive psychological training. Students awareness of this fact explains their positive attitude towards the degrees contents. They highlight the syllabus adaptation to the needs of todays society as a positive element. The future educational psychologist acquires, through optional and core subjects, academic, labour and personal skills which will enable him/her to work as a professional educational psychologist in both formal and informal education areas. A good example of that are those subjects related to learning difficulties, the educational demands of a multicultural society, attention to school health, family relationships, etc.

Psychopedagogy Degree
Diplomas and Degrees at Universitat Jaume I

Apart from that, the number of practical credits the subjects have allow for the use of active and practical methodologies such as seminars, research assignments supervised by teachers, and different practical activities to support the theory. The number of teachers who are actually working as professional educational psychologists in educational centres enables us to have a link between academic life and school reality. That makes being able to put theory and practice together when teaching the different disciplines easier. This connexion is even easier when we consider the number of students who are already working in the educational sector.

Remember that prices per credit go up a little every year. The training complements are offered as free-choice subjects in all the Teaching Diplomas and the Psychology degree.
