Hi I'm Sridharan, pursuing Final Year B.Tech Electronics and communication engin eering degree under Pondicherry University.

I attended aspiring minds computer b ased test and got selected in HCL technologies on 27, 28 November, 2010. I'm her e to share my experience. HCL recruits B.Tech, B.E., MCA students only. B.Tech, B.E. in the stream of ECE,EEE,CSE,IT,E&I and other departments are eligi ble. No Standing Arrears. History of arrears depends upon the panel setup the HR. Som eone HR rejects students who are having History of Arrears will not eligible for online test itself. Usually HCL Campus Placement Contains 1.Computer Based Online Aptitude Test Online Test is outsourced by Aspiring Minds for HCL. It contains 4 modules. They are English Verbal Ability English Verbal ability has Synonyms, antonyms, comprehension, sentence formation etc. Quantitative Aptitude Quantitative aptitude has problems based on Numbers, H.C.F. and LCM, logarithms, square roots and cube roots, ratio, partnership, pipes and cistern, time and wo rk, time and distance, boats and streams, alligation or mixture, simple interest , compound interest, permutations and combinations, probability etc. Computer Programming For computer programming has questions asked from basics of C, C++ languages. Kn owing Concepts of OOPs is better. Working of if conditions, for loop and basics, syntax must be known. Logical Reasoning Logical reasoning has problems based on verbal classification, analogies, artifi cal language, matching definitions, making judgements, verbal reasoning, logical problems, cause and effect etc. Each module has certain time period of an hour. You cannot go to previous questi ons which is already completed or answered. You cannot move to next question unl ess current question was completed. If the time expires in one of the module, it will automatically switch overs to another module. Results of Online Aptitude T est will be usually sent by email only. 2. Technical Group Discussion Registration will be there to confirm the identity, you have to take a print out of email. After Registration, for Technical Group discussion, panels will be split up. They may ask to speak on any topic. Even though they can ask to choose the topic yourself.

For HCL, Filteration process will be in Group Discussion only. So be confident. Don t Worry. 3.Technical Interview: Usually technical interview will be questioned from your areas of interest. For ECE students, Please read the basics of Electronic Devices, Electronic Circu its, Digital Electronics, Signals and systems, Digital Signal Processing, Analog Communication, Digital Communication, System design Using Integrated Circuits, Microprocessor and microcontrollers such as 8085,8086,8051 etc. Candidates must know the basics of C, C++ and OOPS concept. No need of programming capability. 4.HR Interview Usually who are cleared the Technical Interview, will be interviewed by HR for a formality only. Those who are cleared Technical interview can have the guts wil l be selected by the company. But due to lack of communication skills, there are lot of students rejected by HRs. They can ask Tell about yourself, why I should hire you, are you eligible for this position Tell me about yourself. Why should I hire you? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do you want to work at our company? What is the difference between confidence and over confidence? What is the difference between hard work and smart work? How do you feel about working nights and weekends? Can you work under pressure? Are you willing to relocate or travel? What are your goals? What motivates you to do good job? What makes you angry? Give me an example of your creativity. How long would you expect to work for us if hired? Are not you overqualified for this position? Describe your ideal company, location and job. What are your career options right now? Explain how would be an asset to this organization? What are your outside interests? Would you lie for the company? Who has inspired you in your life and why? What was the toughest decision you ever had to make? Have you considered starting your own business? How do you define success and how do you measure up to your own definition? If you won $10 million lottery, would you still work? Tell me something about our company. How much salary do you expect? Where do you see yourself five years from now? On a scale of one to ten, rate me as an interviewer. Do you have any questions for me? and many more. For Our Campus Recruitment following sections were kept. HCL rejected Bio-Medica l engineering students in our campus recruitment. Even they have not allowed to attend online test. Day 1(Computer Based Online Aptitude Test):

Test was conducted for 2 days from 27,28 November 2010. I attended on 27th Novem ber 2010 8:30 A.M batch. Test was okay. I didn't prepare much because I studied for many other companies placement tests. Basic questions were asked it was not easy and one cannot say tough also. This was my first computer based test so I f eeling was uncomfortable especially in reading section. I had no hope in clearin g because 1200+ students might have attended and if test was easy cut off will b e high. For me English verbal ability is very tough, other three modules were very easy. Luckily I cleared the test. So to clear aspiring minds go through R.S.Aggrawal regularly and of course luck must also favour you. Eventhough I have not touched R.S.Aggarwal even one. If you know the basic formulas and techniques how to sol ve, then it is enough. They announced results immediately for two batches around 2PM. This time they di d not send the results through email. Day 2(Technical and HR interview): Only 130 candidates cleared Online Aptitude Test. They told Technical and Hr int erview will be done in one round itself. I had a little bit of fear. I was inter view by a Lady HR. It was sharply 11 am on 28th November 2010, I was attending H R interview. Me: May I get in mam. HR: Yes, Please come in. ( I had Entered in to the room) HR: Take you seat. Me: Thank you mam (After sitting) HR: Your name? Me; I m sridharan. HR: Give me a copy of your Resume and a photograph. (after receiving the resume, she took a look on my resume.) HR: Tell about yourself. Me: I told about myself from my name, educational background, strength, weakness and blah blah. HR: Are you native of Pondicherry? Me: Yes, Madam. HR: Then tell me something about the Pondicherry. Me: Pondicherry is located in seashore of bay of Bengal. It is famous for manaku la vinayagar temple, aurobindo ashram, distilleries, fake movie cd s etc.

HR: Okay, tell me about something about your hobbies.( My hobby is adding visual effects to video) Me: I told something about that. HR: Who was your motivation? Me: Many of them motivated me, but I learned a lot my past failure experience be cause it teaches more than anyone. HR: Why do you choose Electronics and Communication Engineering. Me: I choose ECE because communication is one of the major thing in this world a nd everyone need to communicate to anyone by means of mobile, telephone, email e tc. so I want to invent a new thing which communication made easy everywhere to everyone. HR: You need to ask questions? Me: Yes Madam, what do you think about my performance in this interview. HR: then how do you done this interview? Me: somewhat good. HR: Why somewhat good? Me: Then I told the reason behind that. ( she got my signature in a form, which contains are you having any offer, are y ou ready to relocate anywhere in India and service agreement) HR: You can leave the hall now and your results will be announced soon. On 28 November 2010 around, 5.00pm they announced shortlisted members. Around 11 0 members were selected from 130 members. At last I got selected in HCL. Then th ey told about the packages. They told that our offer letters will be send by ema il. Remember that HCL usually sends email to their selected candidates. But for me, they announced the results there itself. After that I thought I was going to break world record of attending maximum numb er of interviews (2+) but thank god I got selected by No: 1 employer in Asia. Tips to those who are going to attend any campus placement: 1. Never lose hope and be always positive. You are the king, no one is capable o f succeeding you. No one knows anything more than you. Always be confident. 2. Use a Unique email id and a mobile number for everything, don t change the emai l id or contact no. for any circumstances. If you changed the email id or contac t no., inform them that you have changed the email id or contact no. 3. R.S.Aggrawal is enough for clearing the aptitude. If possible go through GRE barron book. Try to take any online aptitude test which will be very useful. Now a days lot o f online tests are available.

4. Walk English, drink English, eat English, think English, ran English do every thing In English to clear GD. 5. Understand the concepts of what you know. No need to be jack of the all trade s but be master in 2 or 3 subjects. Be confident and calm. Say no if you cannot answer and never bluff. Answer in such a way that it diverts HR to the area in w hich you are strong. Always smile which gives a positive attitude. 6. Don t put anything that will be a false information in resume. Sometimes you wi ll be caught in the interview by the HR by asking questions in that area. 8. In HR round, for any question try to answer, don t be calm. Speak something rel ated to that topic eventhough you don t know. If you not answered the question, as k sorry. 9. And making new friends while attending interview is good. It will relax you a nd the person whom you are meeting. If you cannot clear interview stay in touch with them so that he/she will tell you about opportunity in any other company or help you out in future after getting job.
