SIW Axial Turbine Design and Performance Course

SIW Axial Turbine Design and Performance Course SoftInWay Inc. offers a downloadable course in steam/gas turbine flow path design and optimization for independent and classroom studies. The course focuses on the basics of steam/gas turbine design, analysis, and optimization. The cost of the course includes training manual and AxSTREAM Educational Version 3-months license.

Upon completion of the course, the trainee should be able to: Design flow path based on given overall requirements according to engine application (determine an appropriate geometry, number of stages (within the limitations imposed), and distribution of blade angles); Assess design interactions between aerodynamic, mechanical integrity and blade cooling requirements for any separate stage; Perform design optimization for both high pressure and low pressure turbine stages, encompassing 1D direct problem computation of multistage flow path and 2D direct problem computation of an individual stage; Search for optimal twist law of relatively long blades; Profile plain cascades with regard to aerodynamic criteria; Perform 3D blade design with different lean and sweep;

AxSTREAM Educational version limitations: Limited number of stations for 2D-calculations and blade design (<= 5); Limited number of profile points (<= 120); Limited number of projects per session (1 project); Limited number of stages in turbine (<= 5) for design and analysis; Ideal gas (k=1.4) usage only; Features such as ATLAS; blade geometry export; optimization #3 for stage; profile optimization by minimal loss are inaccessible.

Recommended environment to run AxSTREAM: 32-bit Intel or compatible 800MHz (or higher) processor, MS Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system, XGA graphics adapter (1024 x 768 resolution min) with OpenGL support.
