Merchandising Server and Citrix Receiver Implementation Guide


TheCitrixMerchandisingServercanbeusedtodeploytheCitrixReceiverforWindowsandsupported plugins.AlthoughtheCitrixReceiverandthepluginscanbedeployedmanuallywithouttheuseofa MerchandisingServer,CitrixrecommendsusingtheMerchandisingServertoautomaticallydeployand update the Citrix Receiver and the supported plugins. This method offers the least long term administrativeoverheadandaseamlessuserexperience. This Implementation Guide provides an overview on how to deploy the Citrix Merchandising Server version1.0andCitrixReceiverforWindowsversion1.0.Thisdocumentishelpfulforanyonesettingup anenvironmentforproofofconcept,training,personallab,orproductionsetup. You will need the following items in order to complete the setup:

Step 1: Download virtual appliance and import it to XenServer

1. FromaWindowsmachine,downloadtheMerchandisingServervirtualmachine.Itcanbe downloadedbyloggingintocitrix.comandselectingCitrixReceiver. 2. Oncedownloaded,extractthe.bz2zipfile.YoucanuseWinRartoextractthisfile. 3. TheXenCenterconsoleisneededtointeractwithXenServer.TheXenCenterinstallationislocated onCitrix.com.InstallXenCenterofaWindowsmachine. 4. OpenXenCenter,pointtoyourXenServerandlogin. 5. OnceloggedintoaXenServer,intheXenCenterconsolegotoFile>ImportVMandpointtothe MerchandisingServer.xvafiledownloadedintheprevioussteps.Youcanalsoclickonthe.xvafile

anditwillstarttheimportingwizardautomatically. Note:Theimportingprocessmighttakeasignificantamountoftime. 6. Oncetheimportiscomplete,powerontheMerchandisingServervirtualapplianceinXenCenter.


Note: There might be specific settings in XenServer that must be configured, such as having the appropriate network and storage settings specific to the environment.

Step 2: Configure network settings for the Merchandising Server

1. InXenCenter,selecttheMerchandisingServervirtualmachineandgototheConsoletab. AssigntheMerchandisingServeraStaticIPaddress,netmask,gateway,andDNS. Note:ThismachinewillneedunobstructedaccesstotheInternet,specificallycitrix.com.This serverdoesnotsupportaproxyserverthatrequiresauthentication. 2. FortheMerchandisingServertobeaccessiblebyDNSname,ahostrecordmustbeconfigured ontheDNSservertomaptheassignedIPaddresstoaDNSname.

Step 3: Configure Active Directory integration for the Merchandising Server and permission to the web-based admin console

The AD settings you configure can be changed but they cannot be deleted. See Lab 1 Part 2 for step by step instructions for how to complete these steps.

1. OnaWindowsmachine,openthebrowserandgoto http://MerchandisingServerNameOrIP/appliancetogettothewebbasedadminconsole Note:ThewordapplianceintheURLiscasesensitive. 2. Loginwiththefollowingcredentials: Note:Thesearethedefaultcredentialsusedonlyforinitialsetup. a. Username:root b. Password:C1trix321 3. Onceyoulogintotheconsole,enterthenecessaryinformationforthedomaincontroller. 4. AssignadomainuseraccountAuditororAdministratorrightsintheconsole.

5. Logintotheconsolewiththatdomainuseraccount. 6. VerifythattheMerchandisingServerhasaccesstoCitrix.combygoingtotheGetNewpagein thewebconsole.IfpluginsarelistedonthispagethatmeanstheMerchandisingServerisable tocommunicatewithcitrix.com.Ifthepageisblank,verifytheInternetconnection.

Step 4: Schedule plug-in deliveries

1. OnaWindowsmachine,opentheMerchandisingServeradminconsoleandloginasadomain userthathasbeengivenAuditororAdministratorrightstotheconsoleinprevioussteps. 2. GototheGetNewpageanddownloadpluginsandmetadatafilesforeachpluginyouplan todeliver. 3. GototheUploadpageandselecteachpluginandmetadatafiletouploadtothe MerchandisingServer. 4. GototheScheduleaProductionDeliverypageandcompletethe4tabsthatwillrequireyou toselectthepluginstodeliver,configureeachselectedplugin,specifytheuserorgroupto receivethedelivery,andspecifywhentodelivertheplugins.

Step 5: Test your setup
