Kimmons Wins Rebuy Tournament, Again!

Tonight’s event #18 marks the second rebuy event in the Legends of Poker Series. John
Kimmons, who won the rebuy event last Sunday, returned to try and take down another
title. Al Barbieri, who won Stud and Stud Hi-Lo events already, is the only two-time
winner so far in the Legends. Well, John added his name to that short but distinguished
list with his win tonight in a 9-way final table deal.
John knocked out the “final table bubble” player when he called his opponents all-in
with AK. John’s opponent had AQ and the board even paired John’s King for the win.
The final table was set at 4:15am.
John Kimmons landed on the final table with the chip lead for the second consecutive
time in a No Limit Hold’em multi-rebuy event. The prize pool was a respectable
$378,000 and first prize was $136,310. Similar to last weeks rebuy tournament, the final
table players were eager to make a deal 10 ways. They could not agree on a deal so the
table proceeded with play on Level 16 with an ante of $1,000 and blinds $3,000/$6,000.
The first (and only) elimination came on hand #3 where John Kim, a pro player from
North Las Vegas, pushed all-in with his $24,000 short stack preflop and was called by
Frank Sinopoli, another pro player from Hollywood, FL. John Kim showed his KJo and
Sinopoli revealed his pocket Queens. The board was 3-8-J-8-10 and John Kim failed to
improve his hand. Frank took down the pot and the remaining nine players went back
into “deal making mode”.
Frank Sinopoli, with expert negotiation technique, got everyone to agree to some minor
modifications in the chip count calculation. Frank handled the table with professionalism
and helped some of the players, not that familiar with deal making, understand the
process. It was approaching 5am and the players were eager to get their share of the prize
pool and call it a night (morning?).

BIOGRAPHY
John Kimmons just logged two huge wins in No Limit Hold’em Multi-rebuy events. The
large fields and multiple rebuys swelled the prize pool to $378,600. How did John pull
off two in-a-row? Perhaps he is a “Rebuy Tournament” specialist—a title I would like to
think I just coined. Or maybe, he is just a good No Limit player and he did his part in
accumulating chips. I asked John what his secret was and he said, “When I made moves,
I didn’t get called. When I raised with good hands, that’s when they called.”
