15 April 2011 Potential School Administrator Potential School District Street Address City, State, and Zip Code Dear Mr./Ms. Potential School Administrator: It is with great interest and enthusiasm that I submit my resume in consideration for the position of English Language Arts Teacher at Potential Middle or High School. I have worked diligently to become a well-rounded educator and individual, and I believe that you will find my educational qualifications and dedication to be an asset to students and faculty alike at Potential School District. The enclosed resume will attest to my completion of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, my impending completion of a Masters Degree in Education, and impending completion of all New York State Teacher Certification Examinations. My resume also highlights the differing employment and hockey opportunities I have had. My experience both coaching and playing hockey have instilled a strong work ethic, a clear understanding of self-efficacy, and has given experiences working with a range of children and adolescents. It is my belief that in todays educational landscape, personal relationships and effective communication are tantamount to specified content material. As a prospective ELA teacher, it is my goal to ensure that all students under my guidance are able to interpret the world around them and articulate the relationship contemporary life shares with the canonical texts inherent to ELA standards. I believe my greatest strength as an educator is my ability to communicate with adolescents. While maintaining the appropriate professional boundaries, my ability to remove the often longstanding barrier that exists between teacher and student gives me the opportunity to help students realize the actuality of their learning potential. Furthermore, my experience observing an 8th grade Special Education class has given me the understanding that multiple teaching methods must be employed if one wishes to be a successful educator. It would be my privilege to meet with you at This Specific Date and Time to further discuss employment at Potential School District. Thank you for taking my resume into consideration. Sincerely, Kyle McCartan
