LEARNING PROFILE

The learning profile has been a good exposure to know how a person learns. As a learner I have come to know a lot about myself, I have gone through all the assessments and selected three of them those are: a. Learning Styles Inventory b. VARK c. Receptive Modality The result of learning style inventory are discussed below According to the result it reveals that my learning style is balanced between active and reflective, but I am more inclined to active learner which means that I learn by doing things actively like discussing, applying things practically and working in a group. It is true for my case because I cant just listen to things and do nothing in this way it harms my ability to understand properly and moreover I cant give full concentration to what is being taught if it is all lecture and no implementation. According to the explanation of Richard M. Felder Sitting through lectures without getting to do anything is hard for both learning types, but particularly hard for active learners. Here the Sensing and Intuitive Learner result says that I am more to Intuitive and it is true as well but again the result is balanced so it means I use both sensing and intuitive but more often I learn is by intuitive way. I am believe with the result because I am not at all good at memeorizing facts but I am good at grasping things very qick for example if it is new concepts of doing something or new software I can understand it really fast and can bring it into actual use. The result between sequential and global it says that I am more of global learner but again it is a balanced result inclined more towards global what it means is I jump into absorbing materialrandomly and suddenly I can see connections which is different from the way sequential learners do they tends to follow stepwise paths in finding solution but I believe a balanced should be there so that no body stick to one way of doing things.

The result between Visual and Verbal is something different the score is 7 which means I am a visual learner and the word itself describes everything Visual learner usually learns by looking at the visuals like pie, charts, diagrams and I actually the same way when I make notes I use diagrams and charts and I learn more effectively in this way. So, coming to the conclusion of the Learning style result all my results are true and I learn exactly the way it reveals. But I would like to work out with the verbal and visual learning as my score is more to visuals which is not always good to learn that way because sometimes verbal communication is also required to learn everything with charts and graphs with no explanation sometimes becomes hard, so I see this the only factor which I have to work on and bring it to more balanced score at about 3-3 . Apart from this I trust the result and I would like to share an example. Back home at my country the schooling style is different and till 10+2 I was an average student just managing my studies to get passing marks I never did understand why I am not able to bring a good score but suddenly everything changed when I was in college I suddenly started scoring in around 85% grade this time also I never understood why I was scoring so good, I came to Canada here as well I was scoring good , when I started analyzing I realized that it is all because of the way of education which is not only theory but with the practical exposure , hands on assignments, Projects and all. But the actual story revealed when I came to know about my learning styles and the way I learn the best, all my questions were answered I came to know that I am an Active , Intuitive, Visual and global learner. Receptive Modality: The receptive Modality results that I use Tactile / Kinesthetic learning style what it say is I learn more by doing things with hands on activity . As I learn by doing things sometimes due to different teaching styles of professors I might not give my full concentration, so what I can do is to take notes throughout the class, jot down points and draw pictures or make charts to make it easier afterwards to study. As I love movement I can walk back and forth with text books while studying.I can also use flashcard, charts and graphs. What all means is more visual and movement during study is the way I learn I cant just sit and study long hours so movement plays an important role in my learning style.
