Media Suite
Cisco Videoscape Media Suite (VMS) offers numerous customer interfaces, and is independent of video formats and application technologies. This means that applications built using any technology to render and play back digital media bundles, including Silverlight and Apple applications, can use the capabilities, complex bundling, and offer management in the VMS platform. VMS is the industrys first enterprise-class software platform for powering multicontent digital media services. The Cisco Videoscape platform provides all the download, streaming, and monetization capabilities required by online video services. The platform also provides the ability to manage the sophisticated content bundling required by virtual DVDs and other mixed-media offerings that combine video, audio, games, applications, channels, and programs in innovative digital media bundles. VOD Automated WorkflowThe flexible workflow supports customizable steps before, during, and after the acquisition and preparation of digital media. Seamless integration with Cisco Transcode Manager (CTM) provides end-to-end workflow management. Plug-In Integration
VMS 4.1 ships with a plug-in created specifically for off-the-shelf integration with Cisco Transcode Manager. With this plug-in, VMS utilizes Cisco Transcode Managers REST API to assign jobs. VMS also uses Cisco Transcode Manager to apply DRM encryption in the clear using Microsoft Smooth Streaming assets, thus replacing Microsoft PIFF tool (EOL) previously used by VMS.

Cisco Transcode Manager

Cisco Transcode Manager (CTM) provides online VOD transcoding in a unique node-based architecture that allows for scaling individual content generation functions: Ingest and Analysis (Optional)A key differentiator of the CTM encoding process is the analysis, file verification, and metadata extraction that manages how videos are transcoded and moved throughout your workflow. This stage optimizes the encode parameters and gathers important metadata that will play a key role later in the publish process. TranscodingWhen a file is ready to be transcoded, CTM schedules a job in the system, in the order of your prioritization. This ensures your valuable resources are focused on the jobs that are on deadline. And, because load balancing and resource management are key to ensuring the highest capacity and uptime, this process happens automatically using a highly optimized grid-processing architecture. CTM reduces your touchpoints and increases your throughput again at this step by using the results of the Analysis step to toggle settings on your encode template. This means you can use the same template or watch folder for interlaced and deinterlaced sources, for example, and use deinterlace processing only when necessary, and set in and out points for the transcode. Post Encode (Optional)Once the asset has been encoded, it is quality checked and packaged for distribution. In the case of ABR, CTM generates the proper index files for the segments generated in the transcode step. It also checks the files against eight different quality-control parameters, including bit rate and quantization. Finally, the assets are delivered, remotely or locally. (Supports package-and-deliver companion files per job, such as poster art or a movie trailer.) Cisco Unified Computing System

Cisco Transcode Manager is a hardware-agnostic solution that can operate on any server in of the Unified Computing System (UCS) suite, such as the UCS B200 M2 Blade Server.

Content Delivery System for Internet Streaming (CDS-IS)

The Cisco Content Delivery System transcends legacy VOD solutions by providing service providers with an intelligent network-based platform for delivering the next generation of entertainment, interactive media, and personalized advertising services to their subscribers. This platform combines video ingest, storage, distribution, personalization, and streaming capabilities into a solution that service providers can use to deliver localized, interactive, and personalized content across a growing portfolio of heterogeneous devices such as televisions, personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and other rich-media-capable devices. Content Delivery Service ManagerDefines the delivery services to indicate how content is ingested and distributed, and what content is delivered to the client devices. Content AcquirerProvides content ingest and storage functionality. Supports a pull-and-pushbased model to ingest content from a variety of sources, including the web.

Service Router/ProximityHandles client requests for content and determines the best Service Engine to deliver it based on proximity, load, and health states. Internet Streamer Once the best Service Engine has been determined, the content is delivered to the client device by one of the following mechanisms:

Static Content Download using HTTPContent is downloaded by the client device before it can be rendered to the user. Progressive Content Download using HTTPContent is rendered in segments to the user before it has been fully downloaded. Content Streaming using HTTPContent is streamed to the client device, and the Service Engines can collect feedback and fine-tune streaming. Advanced error recovery can also be performed. This is a very common method of streaming video content to client devices.
