RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Attendance Attendance must be 80% THROUGHOUT AT ANY POINT OF TIME FOR THE WHOLE SEMESTER.

. If attendance is below 80%, a student will risk being barred from sitting for any of the assessments being offered under 40% coursework. This includes the mid-semester test and the oral test. The Pasum Handbook also indicates the risk of being barred from the Final Examination Paper if attendance falls below 80% at the final count. No excuses will be entertained unless the student concerned can produce a medical certificate from the University Student Clinic or an official note indicating valid official reasons for being absent from class from the Directors Office signed by the Director. 2. Coming late to class Please note that each lesson runs for 50 minutes and that students are expected to be punctual for each class. Students who come late to class beyond the first half hour will not be allowed to sign the attendance for that hour. Therefore, for that first hour, their attendance will be recorded as absent. 3. Textbook Every student must buy the textbook for English Language to be used in class. In order to protect intellectual property and recognize and respect the customary laws regulating the use of intellectual property, only original textbooks can be used. No photocopies of the textbook can be allowed to be used in class. Each textbook comes with a CD. This has been retained by the class teacher along with the answer section that each student is supposed to detach from the textbook. Both the CD & the answer section will be returned to each student at the end of the semester.

4. A Note on Plagiarism Plagiarism is a serious academic misconduct and will not be tolerated. Those who plagiarize will face stern disciplinary action by the teacher/lecturer and the centre/faculty. Students who are found to plagiarize others' work, either from classmates, printed materials or electronic sources in order to pass off as their own work, will not be granted any marks for the work concerned. Discussions and cooperation between course mates / classmates are encouraged. However, they cannot be used as an excuse for submitting similar end products when submitting assignments. Students suspected to have violated this rule will be turned over to the Director / Deputy Dean of the centre or faculties concerned for formal investigation. 5. Extensive Reading Each student is expected to participate actively in extensive reading by reading any book (preferably of fiction) that he/she enjoys reading. However, students are not allowed to read material with too much graphics such as comics and illustrations. Students are especially banned from reading material with pornographic content. If any student were to breach this rule, the class teacher has the right not to allow the student from entering the class concerned. The objective of the extensive reading is to read as many books as possible. The target is for each student to read a minimum of four books over the course of the semester. 6. Participation in Forums When participating in any of the forums, students are not allowed to use short forms, harsh words, rude remarks and any other offensive language that can offend any party. Students should remember to use respectful and polite language at all times.
