TRAY DRIER Tray Drier has been designed for student laboratory training programmes in unit operations. The unit resembles the most commonly used industrial method of drying solids in bulk where hot air stream is passed over fixed trays of wet material. Students will able to vary the operating conditions and collect data to demonstrate both the theoretical and practical aspects of industrial drying practice.

HEAT EXCHANGER TRAINING APPARATUS This Heat Exchanger Training Apparatus has been designed to allow students to get Familiarised with different kinds of heat exchangers and to collect the necessary experimental data for the calculation of heat loss, heat transfer coefficient, log mean temperature difference, etc. Student will also be able to study the effect of flow rate on the heat transfer rate. Later, students may use this knowledge for designing complex industrial heat exchangers.

DOMESTIC REFRIGERATION UNIT The Domestic Refrigeration Unit system demonstrates the operation of a compression refrigeration unit. A closed, insulated chamber is cooled using a refrigeration circuit comprising a compressor, condenser, evaporator and capillary tube. A special feature is the ability to enlarge the heat exchange area of the condenser by switching in a 2nd stage. It is possible to use the unit to simulate faults.

HYDRAULIC BENCH The hydraulic bench allows to carry out a large number of flow-related experiments. To ensure a safe stand of the experimental set-ups, the work space is provided with a stepped edge. The first part of the work space is in form of a flow channel. Therefore, experiments with weirs are possible. The collecting tank is used to measure the flow rate. Two different measuring ranges are realised with a stepped tank. The work space including the measuring tank and supply tank are made of reinforced fibreglass. Piping is made of PVC. The components are corrosion-free, shock-resistant difficult to deform. The supply tank includes a pump. The bench is independent from a water supply because of the closed water circuit.

FREE & FORCED CONVECTION APPARATUS The system is developed for the demonstration of natural and forced convection phenomena. A convection chamber is fitted with different heated surfaces to determine its heat convection coefficients.

UNSTEADY STATE HEAT TRANSFER The equipment is designed for students to run experiments on unsteady state heat transfer. The unit is supplied with a heated water bath and a set of solid shapes with built-in temperature sensors to monitor the temperature at the centre of the shape.

FILM AND DROPWISE CONDENSATION UNIT This Film and Dropwise Condensation Unit has been specially developed for use in students teaching and demonstration purposes. It will enable students to visually observe the process of heat transfer during condensation, as well as gather experimental data for a better theoretical understanding. The unit is a self contained bench top unit, with an integrated steam generator and air extraction system. The main components in the unit are the specially designed condensers for the observation of both filmwise and dropwise condensation.

LINEAR & RADIAL HEAT CONDUCTION APPARATUS The apparatus is designed for students to study the principles of conductive heat transfer in solids. A linear and a radial module is individually used to verify the heat conduction theory.

COOLING TOWER DEMONSTRATOR Cooling towers are a common type of heat exchanger used in the industry where warm water is sprayed down while air flows up the column for heat transfer. This apparatus clearly demonstrates the working principles of a cooling tower.

MARCET BOILER This Marcet Boiler is a bench top unit designed to demonstrate the thermodynamic basic principal of boiling phenomenon. Students will be able to study the fundamental pressure-temperature relationship of saturated steam in equilibrium with water.

RADIATION HEAT TRANSFER UNIT The bench scale apparatus is designed for students to investigate the fundamental aspects of heat transfer by radiation. Various radiation heat transfer theorems are verified within the experiments.

PERFECT GAS EXPANSION UNIT The equipment for this laboratory is located in the pilot-plant area of Dupuis Hall. It consists of two interconnect rigid vessels. One vessel is equipped for operation under pressure and the second is under vacuum. An electrical air pump and tappings are mounted on top of the vessels which enable the vessels to be pressurized or evacuated as necessary. There is a pressure sensor connected to each vessel and a temperature sensor is located within each vessel, allowing continuous monitoring of the air properties contained within the vessels.

DEAD-WEIGHT PISTON GAUGE Using the HM 150.02 accessory set, the principle of operation of a spring tube manometer and the possible methods of calibration can be conveyed to the student. For the direct production of the calibration pressure, a pressurising piston of precisely defined diameter in an oil cylinder is loaded with weights. The pressures corresponding to the weights are then read off on the manometer scale. The scale is made of transparent material, in this way the spring mechanism is fully visible.

JOULE-THOMSON COEFFICIENT APPARATUS Joule-Thomson apparatus is a demonstration and practice unit for determining Joule-Thomson coefficient. With this, students are able to comprehend basic concepts of real and ideal gas, internal energy, Gay-Lussac theory, throttling process, Vander Waals equation, Vander Waals force, inverse Joule-Thomson effect, and inversion temperature. Joule-Thomson effect finds its applications in liquefaction of gases, production of dry ice and in petrochemical industry.

INSTANTANEOUS ELECTRIC BOILER FOR STEAM This electric and automatic steam generator is fitted with two separate sets of heating elements for single or double operation. The water can be directly connected to the mains and the water calculation is ensured by a pump rated at 0.55 KW.
