SENIORS--DEADLINES APPROACHING Have you applied to any college or university yet? Do you know that Nov. 1 is a major deadline for applications and priority consideration for scholarships at many universities? If you miss the initial deadline date, you will not be considered for many of these scholarships. Be sure that you apply soon and give your counselor plenty of time to complete her portion of the application prior to the Nov. 1 deadline. All parts of the application must be submitted by the November 1st deadline. If you have questions or are having difficulties, please contact your counselor. **COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS** Application and scholarship deadlines are quickly approaching. Seniors are reminded that in order for their college application to be complete, they must complete the following steps: 1. Complete the online college application and submit. 2. Log on to www.docufide.com and send your current transcript to the college(s) to which you have applied. 3. Log on to College and Career Connections and add the college(s) to which you have applied. Seniors should be sure to complete their college application and Docufide/Parchment request at least two weeks prior to the institutions deadline. If the transcripts are not requested through Docufide/Parchment, counselors do not know that you have applied and thus cannot submit their required information. If you are having difficulty accessing Docufide/Parchment, please see your counselor as soon as possible. . GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Johnson County residents only: Thanks to a grant sponsored by the Johnson County Community Foundation, residents of Johnson County can participate in the free and confidential College Costs Estimator Service. This service is conducted by The National Center for College Costs and it is an extremely good program. You can complete the online Estimator form and submit it to The National Center for College Costs. This program will allow you to communicate with experts in the financial field to help you understand your familys financial aid for college. Connect to www.indianacollegecosts.org and create an account. Click Sign Up in the top right hand corner of the web page. Fill in the information and click I accept. Create my account. Click on Create a new Estimator. Read the terms of agreement and click Get Started. When finished entering data, click Submit your Estimator. Please submit ASAP, but no later than Friday, October 14, 2011. You College Costs Estimator report will be mailed to you, emailed to you, or brought to the workshop on Dec. 6, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Nine Career Center. If you have questions, please contact the National center for College Costs toll free at 877-687-7291 or email info@collegecosts.com. This is a reputable organization and if you live in Johnson County, I highly recommend taking advantage of this free and confidential service. (Mary Hall, College Counselor) 2. Indiana University will not only super-score both the SAT and ACT for admission consideration but they will also super-score both tests for scholarship consideration. If you submit your application by Nov. 1,

you may submit updated SAT or ACT scores by January 15, 2012 for reconsideration of the automatic academic scholarships. The IU Prestige Scholarship requires a 3.7 gpa (on the transcript) and either an ACT of 27+ or 1220+ on the SAT. Dont miss out on this opportunity. 3. Washington University in St. Louis will host a National Portfolio Day on their campus on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The portfolio review will be held in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Representatives from a variety of colleges will be available to review your artwork, discuss their programs, and answer questions about professional careers in art. There is a handout of information about what to bring and the location of the facility in the guidance carousel. This is a free service and open to the public. You do not need to pre-register. 4. Indiana State Universitys offers undergraduate degrees in music education, music business, performance and composition. They will host two music career days on Nov. 7 and Feb. 10th. Additionally, they will host auditions for admission and scholarship consideration on Nov. 7, Jan. 23, Feb. 10, Feb. 11 and Feb. 20th. For more information contact the School of Music at 812-237-2771 4. The priority deadline for applications to Indiana University is November 1st. Complete applications submitted by this date will receive consideration for Automatic Academic Scholarship consideration. NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES 1. Butler University STEM Scholars Program is available to students who plan to major in a STEM field: biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physics, or software engineering. Submit an application for admission by Feb. l, 2012 and submit the FAFSA by March 1st. Finalist will need to submit a letter of recommendation from a science or math teacher, provide a written lab report or research paper, and participate in an on-campus discovery session.

Ball State University offers the Miller Scholars Program for students planning to pursue a business major. Ten scholarships are awarded annually and can be renewed for three years. Requirements: 3.82 core gpa, SAT average 1850+ (all three tests) or ACT 28, and honors or AP courses. The program seeks students who are curious about the how and why of particular topics and are eager to pursue knowledge. All application materials must be received by Jan. 31, 2012. More information: www.bsu.edu/business/millerscholars. Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio offers $10,000 awards for non-majors in dance, music, theater, and studio art. Audition and portfolio submissions required. Additionally for majors in dance, music, and theater there are full-tuition awards. For more information: admission.case.edu Fall open house is November 11, 2011. The following universities offer a co-op scholarship: Drexel University (PA), Johnson & Wales University, Kettering (MI), Rochester Institute of Technology (NY), University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Deadline is Feb. 15, 2012 and students must have a 3.5/4.0 gpa and complete all admissions requirements. For more information and to submit an application: www.co-op.edu Transcripts and recommendations are not required. The number of monetary awards will vary by institution but there are at least 15 awards at each school. Please know that many institutions offer co-op opportunities. AXA offers two different scholarships. The AXA Achievement Community Scholarship in association with U. S. News & World Report is due by Dec. 1 and is based on ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college. Spalding University in Louisville offers scholarships in the amount of $1500 to $14,500 for a specific gpa and test score. The scores and gpa range from a 2.3 and 16 ACT for a $1,500 award to a 3.9 gpa and 30+ ACT for an award of up to $14,500. These are automatic scholarships with an application. Additionally, students can apply for 80 different Spalding Endowed Scholarship via one application which becomes available in February. The Endowed Scholarships are renewable annually and range from $1,500 to $2,000. www.spalding.edu The McDermott Scholars Program at the University of Texas in Dallas offers tuition, room and board, international travel, internships and research options. This is an amazing program. PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED SCHOLARSHIPS 1. IUPUI Scholarships. IUPUI offers several excellent scholarships including the Bepko, Plater and Herbert Presidential. The deadline for these scholarships is Nov. 15, 2011 and there is a separate application for each of the awards. Awards range from $8,000 a year for four years to full tuition for undergraduate and graduate work. Indiana State University offers the Gongaware Scholars Program. It is available to students who have demonstrated leadership, have earned a 1500/2400 on the SAT and have earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students who are interested in financial services or insurance should consider applying for this Scholarship. Students will receive a $30,000 scholarship, personal laptop computer, and a $3,000 professional development account. Additionally, you will have a professional mentor and excellent opportunities for outstanding internships, jobs, and networking opportunities. Interested students should talk with their counselor by Oct. 13, 2011 in order for your counselor to nominate you by the deadline. Please note: we currently have a student in this program and he has very positive things to say about the program. 14. Trine University announces their scholarships: a. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) announces its fourth annual Freedom in Academica student essay contest. Students are invited to write an in-depth essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the college experience. JMU offers more than 400 one to four year scholarship to incoming students. For more info on scholarships: www.jmu.edu/admissions/scholarships/ 18. University of Louisvilles National Scholars Award is a $10,000 scholarship for out-of-state students who have a gpa of 3.35/4.0, 26+ ACT or 1170+ SAT. No separate application is required. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15. 19. Miami University (OH) offers the following scholarships based on tests and gpa: a. 30+ ACT or 1330+ SAT and 3.7+ gpa earns $40,000 ($10,000/year) b. 28-29 ACT or 1250-1320 SAT and 3.7+ gpa earns $28,000 ($7,000/year) c. 26 or 27 ACT or 1170-1240 SAT and 3.7+ gpa earns $18,000 ($4,500/year) Please note that Miami will only accept official scores from the testing agencies. Audition dates for the Illinois Wesleyan Universitys School of Music are: Oct. 10, Nov. 5, Jan. 14, Feb. 4, Feb. 18 and March 3rd. Music majors can qualify for renewable scholarships ranging from $8,000-$19,000 per year. There are a limited number of Directors Scholarships at $30,000+ per year. Non-Music majors may qualify for the renewable Jennings Scholarship which is worth $500 per year plus free lessons. Saint Michaels College in VT offers a $20,000 (over four years) scholarship Edmundite Scholarship to students who graduate from a Catholic high school. Applications and nomination forms must be received by Feb. 1, 2012. There is additional information in the guidance carousel or from your counselor. 24. Eastern Illinois University is offering the University Honors Program $2000 Scholarship to Roncalli students. With an ACT of 26+ and a 3.5 gpa (and an application for admission), students qualify for this award. EIU also offers the Presidential Scholars Award based on ACT of 28+ and a separate application. The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Elks Legacy Award is available to a child or grandchild of a living Elk who joined the Order on or before April 1, 2009 or a charter member of a Lodge instituted on or after April 1, 2009. The Elk must be a paid-up member through March 13, 2012. Great grandchildren are not eligible. c. Elks Emergency Education Fund Grants are available to provide financial assistance of deceased or totally disabled Elks. Grant amounts may be up to $4,000 based on information submitted in the application. d. Elks Vocational Scholarship is available at www.indianaelks.org 26. Catholic University of Americas scholarships include: a. Archdiocesan Scholarshipfull tuition for four yearscandidates must have a minimum 3.8/4.0 gpa, SAT 1450+ or ACT of 32+, and a strong personal profile shown through leadership experience and extracurricular activities b. University Academic Scholarships based on gpa and test scores c. Parish Scholarshipup to $3,000 d. Family Grant$2,000--for two or more dependent children of the same family concurrently registered as full time students. 27. Are you considering a major in health, physical education, recreation or dance? You may want to apply for the Indiana Association for HPERD Scholarship. Deadline is December 1st. Applications are on-line at www.inahperd.org. 28. University of Evansville scholarships include: a. Scouting Scholarship--$14,000-$15,000 annually. Apply and be admitted to UE with GPA of 3.5+, ACT 23+ or SAT 1530+. Visit campus by April and complete the FAFSA by March 10th. b.
