ustom can be defined as generally accepted and long-established way of behaving or doing thing while tradition is the passing of custom or beliefs from one generation to the next. Our country is a fascinating country with its unique traditions and customs. Although the people are multiracial, they can stay as one and unite as 1 Malaysian citizen. We need to preserve our traditions and customs to let more people know about them and pass them down to future generations. So, we must teach our children about the traditions and customs. Besides, we need to preserve the traditions and customs because they are our community identity. We know that the community gains a character and a personality of its own, because of the traditions and customs practiced by its people. We need to preserve our traditions and customs because this way may help to ties the people of a region or community together. Traditions and customs are seen as a system of social control. People may shape their standards and behavior through the traditions and customs practiced.

Yes, that's right. More importantly, tradition and customs define who and what we are. They are our own identity amidst all other identities in the world. We must preserve them because they contain values and guidelines that are the moral beacons for us in dealing with issues that confront us everyday. Traditions and customs are prescriptive in this sense. But of coure, traditions and customs also undergo changes over time. What we need to do is to incorporate new values that can contribute positively to our traditions and customs. Cheers Lajiman
