Prescribed Textbook Sonntag R.E., Borgnakke C. & Van Wylen G.J. Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, 6th Edition, 2003 John Wiley & Sons, USA
Module Outcomes
The aim of this course is to present the fundamentals of classical thermodynamics while building an engineering perspective This module will lay the groundwork for subsequent studies in such fields as fluid mechanics, thermo machines and heat transfer, and also prepare students to effectively apply thermodynamics in the practice of engineering
TRD2B21 Introduction & Course Outline 5
Module Outcomes
With successful completion of this course you should be able to: Apply mass, momentum and energy balances (1st law of thermodynamics) in control volumes; Calculate energy transfer in thermodynamic equipment; Determine the efficiency of thermal cycles (2nd law of thermodynamics & Carnot cycles); and Determine gas cycles for thermodynamic equipment.
