A Word from Charles Scrivener

As a young child, my parents and doctors discovered my visual impairment. Tests proved that it was caused by an active brain tumor. I remember undergoing radiation and chemo therapy without any improvements. Doctors could not operate at that time and predicted my imminent perishing. I remember the love and prayerful support of fellow church members at First Baptist Church of Melbourne, Florida as God worked in miraculous ways to preserve my life.

1Timothy 4:12~ Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.

A Word from Charles Scrivener

Prayer Corner I placed my faith in Him as my Lord and Savior at a young age, and as I sensed His presence in my life, especially during this crisis, I sensed that He had a plan for my life to share His love with other people. I started sharing my personal faith with classmates, neighbors and had a passion for lost people who did not know the hope that is found in Jesus. As a youth, I explored becoming a doctor, but I felt that God planned for me to go into full-time Christian ministry, like my father. I went to a Christian university and seminary before I moved to Wichita as a chaplain resident at Wesley Medical Center in 2005. As I have worked at different secular jobs, I have looked for churches and other areas where I can use my spiritual gifts and share the difference that God made in my own life. When I was looking for a church home within walking distance from my apartment, someone suggested Metropolitan Baptist Church. I felt interested in the young adults ministry when I learned about a missions trip to Mexico. I had been on several mission trips before but none within the last two years; so I prayed, talked to my new friends and decided to go for a week of service. During our week of providing support and service to these children, I got to know several members hearts for missions. Since I knew this was an outreach and missions oriented church, I decided to join and become active in its outreach. Thankfully, I have had the opportunity to substitute teach for a Sunday School class and be a part of discussions to start a new class of young adults. I have also had the opportunity to lead at the Rescue Mission along with the praise team. I am glad I found A-6 at Metropolitan Baptist Church where I can serve and mature with other passionate adults. -Charles Scrivener
Please keep the Barbes in your prayers as they serve overseas.
