year, it was a massive shock to the local
community. A year on from his death,
Kennys legacy lives on with a fund
set up in his memory which has made
thousands for local good causes. You

A fund set up in memory of a well-
known neston man who died last year
has raised well over 2,000.
Kenny Roberts died suddenly in October
2010 from a burst artery he was just 43
and apparently ft and healthy.
Kenny was a very popular man in
Neston and particularly so in the local
football scene where he managed Neston
Nomads Veterans,
After his death, his mother Maggie set up
the Kenny Roberts Football Fund to raise
money for football teams in the area.
Maggie said: The day we celebrated his
life I asked for no fowers bar mine and
the church collection alone raised over
800.
Donations have continued to come from
all over the world, including Australia,
New Zealand and the USA.
We have had a charity football match,
sponsored walk and a fun night at our
local pub the Royal Oak to mark Kens
anniversary.
The fund has already helped towards
training tops for the Neston Nomads, a
full strip for the Veterans which was Kens
last team he was managing at the time of
his death.
Any local team - male or female - can
apply for help and it will be discussed with
the committee.
Maggie paid tribute to Barry Taylor, from
the Royal Oak, and Kens legion of friends
who have all helped the fund to fourish.
Maggie added: Ken seemed to be so ft
and healthy and full of life, so it
was a big shock when he died.
This fund has helped to keep
his memory alive.

NesTON High school students following
the environmental and Landbased
Diploma planted 11 spruce trees in the
school grounds to mark 2011 being the
United Nations International Year of
Forests.
The trees were donated by sCA Timber
Supply Ltd. Steve Coxon, their Area
Manager for the North West of england
spoke to students about sustainable
forestry and wood production, pointing out
that the trees would take between 80 -100
years to reach maturity.

representing Beers Timber and Building
supplies who had nominated Neston
High school as one of twenty schools
nationwide to take part in sCAs
tree plantings commemorating the
International Year of Forests.
steven Dool, Headteacher at Neston
High school welcomed the initiative
saying, I am delighted that Neston High
School was chosen as one of the schools.
We have a strong culture of developing
environmentally friendly strategies.
We are currently putting together a
portfolio of evidence for our Green Flag
resubmission and this will certainly form

Fitness fanatics last the course
FIVE ftness enthusiasts from Neston took part in a gruelling seven mile Army-style
assault course.
The team from the Zone Fitness gym, on the Clayhill estate, entered the Mens
Health survival of The Fittest Assault course in Nottingham, with over 4000 other
brave souls. The challenges involved crawling through muddy tunnels and cargo
nets, swimming through lakes to climbing various obstacles and sandbag running.
The quintet hope to have raised over 500 for Claire House Childrens Hospice and
the Motor Neurone Charity.
The lads arrived back with swollen and sore joints but it was defnitely worth it.
They plan to take part again next year. Also in 2012 Mike Burkey is running the
London Marathon so good look to him

AT the september meeting members were informed of the success of the car boot sale
which made 145.
Helen from BIRD (Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Development) gave a talk on the
work that they carry out on babies, children and adults. This is the charity which Julie,
our President, did the abseil for down the Mersey Tunnel Ventilation shaft on a very
cold Sunday in June.
Following the talk members were then entertained by members of the committee who
formed the Panel for Call my Bluff. This was enjoyed by everyone and it ended in a
draw with the members and Panel both winning three games each.
In October the group had a talk from Susan Yates on Pet Pals. Susan takes her dog
round local hospitals and residential and nursing homes.
The meeting on 16th November is our frst AGM followed by a social evening and our
December meeting takes place on the 14th when we will be having a Christmas Party
with entertainment provided by the members. Our frst meeting in the New Year will
take place on 18th January.

tutor is running a fve week course
entitled Flower arranging on a budget
at Neston Community and Youth Centre.
The aim is to guide people with an
interest in fower arranging, but without
the money large foral creations can
cost.
When Roy Wilson, from sainsburys,
heard about this he donated some
fowers to their charity partner NC&YC.

Labour MP Andrew Miller visited
Tesco Metro Neston to present three
local primary schools with Tesco for
Schools & Clubs Equipment. This
year, shoppers in the local area
received vouchers over 10 weeks
which they donated to a school or
club of their choice. These schools
are clubs were then able to choose
what equipment they wanted from
the catalogue to beneft and educate
children. The primary schools who
took part in the presentation were
Neston, Willaston CE and Woodfall.

Paid for by Parkgate councillor
Brenda Dowding, the bike
is available to people using
Neston Community Day
services, based at Neston
Community and Youth Centre,
Burton Road. The funding came
from Councillor Dowdings
Members budget.
The bicycle was custom-made so that as many of the people as possible attending
Neston Community Day Services could beneft from its use said Councillor Dowding.
I hope that service users will now be able to enjoy cycling along the nearby Wirral
Way.
The aim is to give people greater independence, as well as the added bonus of trying
out a different activity.
One, or both, of those riding
the bike can be peddling; or
one person could simply be
enjoying the ride. Tandem
passengers might include older
people or people with a range of
disabilities.
I do hope that this special
bicycle will be well used and
give a great deal of pleasure, as
well as providing that additional
beneft of helping people to
become more independent.

New afordable homes
sIx affordable homes have been bought
by Chester & District Housing Trust and all
have already been let to key workers in an
area of Neston.
Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT)
won a 500,000 grant with Cheshire West
& Chester Council, part of which has been
used to help fund new affordable housing
across the borough. Scholars Court in
Neston is the frst scheme in a range
of new jointly-funded developments to
be completed and this joint initiative will
deliver six two-bed new build properties.
Cheshire West & Chester Council is taking
an equity stake in the properties with
the aim of reinvesting funding into more
affordable housing in the future.
The properties have been let at submarket
rent, 80 per cent of the market value, with a
particular emphasis on providing affordable
housing to key workers in the area.
Dave Soothill, CDHT Assistant Director - Asset Management & Development, said:
We are pleased to work with partners such as Cheshire West & Chester Council on
this successful project. This is delivering high quality affordable housing in an area
where it is needed.
Fond farewell to Martin
Air Cadets of 2375 (Neston) squadron
said goodbye and a fond farewell to one of
their long standing cadets as he embarks
on his career as a chef in the RAF. Cadet
Martin Hannam was the longest serving
cadet who took part in the many activities.
Over the years he has participated in
adventure training, kayaking, sports, Duke
of edinburgh Awards, shooting, annual
camps and much more. He helped in
fund raising events for various charities
and the squadron along the way too.
Cadet Hannam follows his brother (Cadet
David Hannam who joined the RAF last
year), and is at RAF Halton where he is
undertaking a 10 week basic training
programme before graduating into the
ranks of the RAF.

MeMBeRs of the Neston
slimming World Group have
packed their bags (and their
cars!) and are on the move
to a new bigger venue.
Due to swelling numbers
of members, they have
outgrown their old venue
at Dee scout Centre in
Little Neston and so from
Wednesday 2nd November
are moving to their new
bigger, better venue at
Neston British Legion on
Hinderton Road in Neston.
We are thrilled to be
moving to such a nice
venue. said Jayne Williams, consultant of the Neston Group.
We will have more space at the British Legion in our new warm and comfortable
room, with ample parking space in the foodlit car park outside. While we are losing
weight and shrinking our bodies, our
groups numbers have swelled, so we
needed a bigger venue.
The group is going from strength to
strength with fabulous weight losses:
Just recently, a member lost 10lbs in his
frst week and another member has just
reached her target weight after losing
over 4 stones, which has changed her
life so much for the better. She even runs
marathons now - something she would
never have dreamed of doing before she
lost the weight.
Our frst day in our new home at the
British Legion will be Wednesday 2nd
November with three sessions at 9.30am,
5.00pm and 7.00pm, when we will be
having a launch party with drinks and
nibbles to celebrate.
Anyone who is interested in fnding out
more about what we do in the group and

company Neston Players next production
will reunite two of its leading lights back
together on stage since their memorable
performances in Players successful production
of Shadowlands.
Michael Kennedy and Gordon Wallis who
played C.S Lewis and his brother Warnie in
shadowlands will be taking to the stage in the
Neston Players next production, the Norman
Robbins thriller Prescription for Murder.
Our characters in Prescription for Murder are about as far
removed from the cosy world of 1950s Oxford academia as its
possible to be says Michael, but its great fun and a great challenge as actors to get your teeth
into roles so entirely different and obviously its an absolute pleasure to be performing with
Gordon again.
Gordon agrees: The play is an absolute corker in terms
of keeping the audience guessing right up until the fnal
scene. Michaels character is suspected of killing his frst
wife and could possibly be trying to murder his second
but its all half-truths, rumour and gossip all of which will
hopefully keep the audience on the edge of their seats
until the fnal curtain.
Director Cliff Inns added, Prescription for Murder has
all the hallmark traits of the classic British who-dun-it
a country house, an eclectic collections of characters,
countless red-herrings and a brilliant twist in the tail.

Shadowlands Brothers Reunite for Chilling
Thriller

Award winning local amateur theatre company Neston Players next production will
reunite two of its leading lights back together on stage since their memorable
performances in Players successful production of Shadowlands.

Michael Kennedy and Gordon Wallis who played C.S Lewis and his brother Warnie
in Shadowlands will be taking to the stage in the Neston Players next production, the
Norman Robbins thriller Prescription for Murder.

Our characters in Prescription for Murder are about as far removed from the cosy
world of 1950s Oxford academia as its possible to be says Michael, but its great fun
and a great challenge as actors to get your teeth into roles so entirely different and
obviously its an absolute pleasure to be performing with Gordon again.

Gordon, winner of the NODA North West Best Supporting Actor for his performance in
Shadowlands, agrees, The play is an absolute corker in terms of keeping the audience
guessing right up until the final scene. Michaels character is suspected of killing his first
wife and could possibly be trying to murder his second but its all half-truths, rumour
and gossip all of which will hopefully keep the audience on the edge of their seats until
the final curtain.

Director Cliff Inns, who directed the Players extremely well-received production of
Comfort and Joy last year, commented, Prescription for Murder has all the hallmark
traits of the classic British who-dun-it a country house, an eclectic collections of
characters, countless red-herrings and a brilliant twist in the tail. The Players havent
staged an out and out thriller for quite a while and we are all looking forward to
bringing a sense of mystery and suspense to our audiences this November.

Prescription for Murder Plot Outline
There is never a dull moment for busy Dr. Richard Forth. He has an awkward yet close
friendship with his ex-girlfriend while his wife, Barbara, is chronically and mysteriously
ill. Richard believes her symptoms are psychological, but when a stranger claims to have
known Richards second fiance, a woman Richard says does not exist, Barbaras health
worsens and it becomes apparent somebody is out to kill her and anyone else who gets
in their way.

Bex is about two years old he is neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped.

Stanley is three years old and very friendly. Unfortunately Stanley has the FIV
virus so must be kept as an indoor cat. He will make a very loyal and loving
companion. He follows his fosterer around everywhere and when she sits down
Stanley thinks it is especially so he can sit on her lap. Stanley is the perfect
companion, he is happiest on your knee, or on the newspaper you are trying to
read.

Blue is this handsome boy is a bit on the nervous side but then who wouldn't
be after finding himself shut out of his home in the coldest of weather, when
