TAKE THE CHILL OFF AT THE CCC The Salem Courthouse Quilters have been hard at work creating a warm fall-colored quilt to benefit the Courthouse Community Center. The generous 72' x 72" machine pieced and hand tied flannel quilt is the quaint Dancing Stars pattern. Talented Courthouse Quilters who contributed to the effort are Carol Allen, Lynda Armstrong, Inez Bianca, Romain Guzi, Alice Hurtle, Marge Keyes, Paulette Leonard, Lucille Makrin, Sue Morrison and Dottie Schneider. The quilt is currently on display at the CCC and would make the perfect holiday gift! Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10, and the drawing will take place at the CCC on December 10th. The winner need not be present. The CCC is also pleased to announce it was the recipient of a grant from the Washington County Home for Aged Women, Inc. to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED). Conferring with Vicky Campbell of the Salem Rescue Squad and Travis Howe, Director of the Mountain Lakes Regional EMS Council, it was determined that a Zoll AED Plus would best sever the needs of the CCC. Its fully guidelines compliant and easy for the layman to use. It is also the same AED utilized by the Salem Rescue Squad and Salem Fire Department. Dr. Dan Garfinkel of the Salem Health Center has graciously offered to serve as the Medial Director overseeing the training and use of this life-saving equipment.

George & Tim Whalen, of Whalen Chevrolet are proud to announce their appointment as the factory authorized dealer for Upstate New York for the revolutionary new MV-1 First Mobility Vehicle, the first and only factory-built and assembled vehicle which meets or exceeds the vehicle guidelines of the Americans With Disabilities Act. The MV-1 will be available in either gasoline or Compressed Natural Gas powertrains. Production of the fully certified vehicle has officially begun and deliveries to customers began at the end of this September. They are proud to provide people with mobility issues a purpose-built vehicle that meets the same expectations that all new car buyers have - ease of entry and exit, an exceptional ride, state of the art technology and unprecedented reliability, quality and durability. The MV-1 is being assembled at the AM General Commercial Assembly Plant in MIshawaka, Indiana. We believe the MV-1 will very quickly become an iconic vehicle, setting a new standard against which all other para-transit vehicles will be measured.

Commission 20% or $75/Table ENERGY EXPERT TO SPEAK IN GREENWICH Tina Clarke, noted authority on energy, will speak at the Greenwich High School, on Wednesday, November 16, at 7:00 p.m. Her topic will be, "Zero Energy Power-House: Creating Your Path to Energy Independence and a Resilient Lifestyle." The talk is open to the public, with a suggested $5 donation to help defray costs. Clarke brings to her subject a wealth of experience: both personal and professional. On the personal side, she was one of the designers and builders of the less-than-zero-energy, passive solarheated, where she now lives. Dubbed the "Power House," it's located in Turners Falls, MA. In 2010 this home won the Northeast Solar Energy Association award for zero energy buildings. On the professional side: she has been providing training and support for community leaders and campaigns for over 20 years. "Listening to Ms. Clarke fills me with hope. It's not an empty hope based on wishful thinking, but a hope that comes from knowing that there are practical solutions to the looming problems of energy shortage and environmental pollution that citizens can implement," said Robert Kazmayer, co-chair of the Greenwich Citizens Committee. 4H PROGRAM LOOKING FOR YOUTH- Region 5A 4-H Horse Educational Events are scheduled for mid-January in Clinton County, and Warren/Washington Counties 4-H Programs are recruiting youth for teams to compete in these events. Says Rider: [one] of my great joys is working with living composers. Having the opportunity to bring a new piece to life through the exploration of fresh ideas and innovative sound worlds is tremendously exciting and rewarding Each persons experience of the Canyons grandeur, while profoundly personal, can also bring us in touch with the universality of nature and the human experience. The pieces will be accompanied by a collection of photographs assembled by film maker David deVries that accent and compliment the music Rider will perform. The images represent the essence of the Grand Canyon that inspired the composers, including elements such as water, space, stones, Indian mythology, birds and the Colorado River. The November 12 concert will take place at 2:00pm at historic Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY. Admission is pay what you can, so everyone can attend!
