Next-Generation BioTRAC System

Mobile Identity Management and Multi-Mission Computing

Introducing the next-generation BioTRAC System from Northrop Grumman. BioTRAC delivers federated identity management in a highly mobile, fully functional mission computer, with more memory, faster biometric capture, a bigger screen, more functions and greater flexibility, BioTRAC moves to the next level.

Handheld usability Customisable workflow (in C# for rapid development) COTS matching software Interchangeable GPS topcaps and biometric backpacks for easy upgrades With BioTRAC, biometrics captured from persons of interest can be sent to local databases, as well as national and international repositories. The system interfaces directly with the Next-Generation Automated Biometric Identification System (NG-ABIS), UK IDENT1, and local watch lists. Supporting rapid identity management and mission computing, BioTRAC delivers high alert messaging, real-time video feeds, device data capture and an architecture thats multi-level security ready. The BioTRAC hardware can be held in one hand, while the other is free to collect data, operate the touch screen or address other concerns. The system minimizes the need for manual data entry, through the use of bar code and proximity card readers.

Supports Federated Identity Management

BioTRACs local computing capability extends federated identity management directly to operators anywhere they go. The system lets them load any on-board application, including: Local biometric matching and communications for federated searching Custom workflow and forms with an adaptable biometrics capture suite and vehicle mounting Multiple services, such as: NG-ABIS, Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS), IDENT1 (the United Kingdoms biometric identification system for law enforcement), Criminal Justice Information Services systems and U.S. Immigration and Customs systems

Biometric Matching on the Move

Northrop Grumman designed BioTRAC to provide the most capable and adaptable mobile biometrics and computing platform available. Designed especially for policing and Counter Insurgency Operations (COIN), the modular system is a fully functioning, ruggedised, scalable Windows XP computer (Windows 7 and Linux compatible) integrated with: On-board biometric capture and matching capabilities Internal communication links and smart card reader ID readers fingerprints, iris scan, face image, voice, signature

Powerful New Features

Next Generation BioTRAC offers new features that make it more usable, capable, reliable, and effective. Larger screen with optical mouse Additional memory, dual field programmable gate array (FPGA) Faster fingerprint and iris capture with dual automatic iris cameras and a faster camera for video capture delivers full biometric capture in as little as 30 seconds Integrated common access card reader (BISA compatible) Stereo mics with software programmable communications Full magnesium housing with improved field upgradability IP67- compliant design provides superb dust and immersion protection Custom workflow with same multimission capabilities BioTRAC Supports Real-World Operations The BioTRAC System supports every phase of the identity management process. Document the Area of Interest. As an operator approaches an area of interest, BioTRAC records the area on video, which is time and position tagged by an internal GPS system. The video can be used later to look for persons of interest in the area. Identify the Operator. To use BioTRAC when a person of interest is encountered, the operator first identifies himself or herself to the system using biometrics or proximity card. Collect Biometric Information. BioTRAC collects and stores fingerprints, iris data, face images, voice records (the subject reading text on the screen) and handwritten signatures (with the signature block and BioTRAC pen). Free text fields are available for data entry; auto-populated data can be updated manually.

Conduct On-Board Matching. BioTRAC can operate in stand-alone mode if no communication link is available. The system can match collected data against the biometric data stored on its 120 Gb hard drive (200 Gb later in 2010). In addition to matches, discrepancies in entered or scanned data would be reported. A threat assessment alert can also be implemented. Share Data. When communication links are available, BioTRAC will format the data for the appropriate biometric server and send an identification request. Supporting multi-level security, the system shares data across multiple networks.

Software upgrades are equally simple. Any COTS or custom matching software compatible with Windows or Linux can be loaded into the system. Communications are also customisable and can incorporate most OEM board solutions.

Proven Biometrics Experience

Northrop Grumman is a leader in biometrics, identity management and biometric interoperability. We offer proven expertise in all phases of collecting biometric data and processing it into actionable intelligence. For many years, our biometric and identity management capabilities have served the U.S. Department of Defense, the intelligence community, other government organizations and foreign governments. Major program experience includes NG-ABIS, IDENT1, Biometric Identification System for Access (BISA), and Biometric Intelligence Resource (BIR).

Multi-Mission Support
BioTRACs rapid adaptability supports a wide range of identification management functions for missions such as policing and COIN operations. Individual operators on the ground can carry BioTRAC, and it can be mounted on vehicles or aboard ships as a multifunctional workstation using it as an ultra-rugged PC. With its military grade platform, BioTRAC also serves as a multi-function workstation for GPS tracking and standard computing functions, including email, word processing and documentation. And with its barcode sensors and card readers, BioTRAC can be used for logistics to keep track of inventory, receipt of supplies, and personnel.

Fast, Easy Adaptability and Upgrades

Changing BioTRACs communication and capture devices is as simple as swapping out the topcap or backpack; the base computer remains unchanged. New topcaps and backpacks can be tailored to changing requirements customised for upgrades and mission flexibility. From thought to theatre, follow-on topcaps and backpacks can be typically prototyped, demonstrated, made production ready and deployed in three to nine months.
