[REPORT ON TRAFFIC CONDITION OF BANGLADESH] January 1, 2011 The traffic problem is common in Bangladesh and it has reached a severe level. The traffic problems are hindering the development of the country. We waste our precious time on noting and sit in the car waiting for our chance to go over the intersection Bellow are come causes for the traffic problems.

The cause

The number of cars The shortage of road poor traffic control filling station bus stops intersections problems Pedestrians old cars highway lane system street hawkers construction The rickshaw problem

The number of cars The number of cars in Bangladesh is rapidly increasing. Families are now owning more than two or three cars. The cars are causing problems on the road as the roads are limited. The government is taking steps to reduce the number of cars owned by a single family by charging 400% tax on car import and by increasing the fee to renew the road permit of cars. They are also making laws to decrease the number of Japanese cars being imported.

[REPORT ON TRAFFIC CONDITION OF BANGLADESH] January 1, 2011 The shortage of roads The roads of Bangladesh are at a poor state. The main highways are need of immediate repairs and it is also necessary to increase width of all roads and highways. There are a small number to roads in ratio to cars. Our government is trying to solve the problems by building and repairing the roads.

Poor traffic control The traffic police are not able to cope well with the huge amount of traffic. The traffic signals that are put-up in every junction are mostly not used due to technical problems. Most drivers are not concern of their driving style and often cause accidents. Filling station Cars often form queers near filling stations, the cars block the road making it hard of traffic to flow, as it takes a long time to fill one car up with gas. There is a constant queer of cars.

Bus stops Buses never stop in bus stops, they stop in the middle of the road and hindering the traffic flowing through the road.

Intersection problems Intersections slows the car down, it also waists time. It needs traffic controlled to work properly But the traffic controlled in our country simply cant do the job properly.

Pedestrians Pedestrians in our country prefer to walk over the road then use the overpass .some of them run across the road, others block the road and pass it , hindering traffic movement. some of them also die trying to cross the road.

Highway lane system In developed countries they mark lane lines for high speed cars and low speed cars. But in our country we dont have it.

Street hawkers street hawkers sets up their stalls on the roads , using precious road space. As the stalls attracts people , it creates a lot crowd , blocking the road .

Construction in our country when constructing a building or a shopping mall , raw materials used are kept on the side of the road ,making the road less suitable to traffic movement . The rickshaw problem The rickshaw pullers are not educated and often take up the whole road leaving no space left for cars and other vehicles.

Its not only the problem of Bangladesh but the whole world. Many countries around the world had implied different technique to cope with the problem. The technique Try to reduce the number of cars Banning old cars from the streets Replacing intersection with flyover
