Jason Levine Takes On the Chip Leader

Late in the Final Table
A prize pool of $164,100 was up for grabs as 343 players participated in Event #11, a
$300 No Limit Hold’em tournament with one optional rebuy. 60% of the field opted for
the rebuy and all of the 10 final table players purchased their rebuy. The final table was
set at 1:30am during Level 13 with the blinds of 1,500/3,000 and an ante of 500.
The first big confrontation occurred on hand #7 when Robert Wambaugh, a painter from
Santa Monica, raised preflop and was re-raised by chip leader Steve Reitzfeld. Robert
called A-Ko. The flop was 9-8-3. Robert bet all-in and Steve instantly called with his 8-
8 and his flopped set. The turn and river were a Queen and a trey filling up Steve and
sending Robert out in 10th place for $2,050.
Four hands later, Farzin Akhtar, a broker from Los Angeles, raised preflop all-in for his
last 6,000 with A-9o. The big blind Florentinos Ornealas reluctantly added 2,000 more
and called with a 10-6o. The flop was 9-6-4 and both players hit a pair. Florentinos was
in the lead and the turn 6 extended his lead with trip 6’s. The Ace on the river wasn’t
enough for Farzin and he finished in 9th place for $2,465.
On hand #20, Sam Alsharairi raised preflop and was re-raised by Florentinos all-in with
pocket Kings. When Sam called, Florentinos knew he was up against none other than
pocket rockets, AA. The board was 9s-6s-2-3s-8s and neither player had a spade. Sam’s
Aces held up and Florentinos Ornelas, from Walla Walla, WA was eliminated in 8th place
and earned $3,285.
Ten hands later, Diana Korkis raised all-in for her last 33,000 (blinds 3,000/6,000) from
the cutoff position with A-6o. Frank Schram, in the big blind, called with a dominating
A-Jo. The flop was 10-6-2 and Diana paired and took the lead. The turn was a Jack and
the lead changed went back to Frank. The river 5 improved neither hand and Diana was
eliminated in 7th place for $4,105. Adeline Freedman, in seat 2, wanted me to make sure I
noted that she was the “last lady standing” in this tournament.
On hand #39, Sam Alsharairi raised preflop to 18,000. Frank Schram called and the big
blind Tony Nguyen went all-in for his last 30,000. Sam folded and Frank called and
showed 10-10. Tony showed 9h-6h and the flop came Qh-Q-3h giving Tony the much
needed flush draw. The turn and river were heartless (3-6) and Frank’s two pair (Queens
and 10’s) bested Tony’s two pair (Queens and 6’s). Tony finished in 6th place and
collected $5,745.
On hand #50, Steve Reitzfeld, the chip leader through the entire final table so far, called
a 25,000 chip raise from Jason Levine, a Hollywood film industry businessman. After a
flop of 9h-8s-5c, Steve bet out 35,000. Jason thought about it and made the call. The
turn was a 6c and Steve went all-in. Jason insta-called and showed 9-7o for the 9-high
straight. Steve showed his pocket 10’s. Steve was looking for a 7 to chop but the turn
was another 6 and Jason became the new chip leader and Steve was left with 25,000.
Four hands later Steve Reitzfeld (UTG) decided to make his move all-in for his last
20,000 chips with J-10. He was called by Jason Levine, who had just won the last 3
hands including the one where he took the chip lead. Jason had Steve dominated with
the K-10. The flop was 10-2-2 (where’s Doyle Brunson when you need him) and they
both hit their common 10. The turn came the Jack and Steve moved into the lead but the
river King (3-outer) gave Jason the pot and Steve Reitzfeld finished in 5th place and
earned $7,385.
The four players remaining played around 13 more hands before they decided to look at
a chip count. After a short break, the chip count came back and after a little negotiation
between the two big stacks, the deal was finalized. Jason Levine was declared the
winner. Adeline Freedman took 4th, Sam Alsharairi took 3rd, and Frank Schram was the
runner-up. This was by far the most professional and respectful final table to date.

BIOGRAPHY
Jason Levine, familiar with final table play, won the 2006 Stars & Stripes Main Event for
$40K+. Jason has been playing ever since seeing Moneymaker win the 2003 WSOP ME.
Jason learned to play poker by online play and reading “tons of books”. His favorite
books are the Harrington on Hold’em series. Jason plays in No Limit Hold’em cash
games when he’s not playing in tournaments. Jason is a co-owner of a motion picture
company which cuts trailers and other promotional films. A local film school graduate,
he started this company 7 years ago with a partner. Jason would like to dedicate this win
to his wife and children: DeLisa, Joshua, Rachel, and Seth.
