The ASD program is not an endorsement program. Students
seeking endorsement as a teacher of students with disabilities
must complete an endorsement in the area of Adaptive or
Functional Special Education. These program courses can be taken
concurrently with ASD courses and will count towards the
Masters degree. Some ASD courses may substitute for some
endorsement requirements, but check with an advisor before
planning a program.
The University of Kansas may have federal grant dollars to support
a limited number of students in the ASD masters degree program.
Grant recipients must be able to work as teachers or related service
professionals after graduation. First priority goes to full time gradu-
ate students. Part time students are also eligible to apply for partial
tuition reimbursement support under this grant. To learn more about
this grant and how to apply go to www2.ku.edu/~autism.
This program is designed to prepare personnel in fields
related to the education of children and youth diagnosed
with Autism, Asperger Syndrome and other pervasive
developmental disorders. The state of Kansas has no
endorsement in the area of ASD so this program does
not lead to a special education endorsement.
