What is PBIS? PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention & Support.

t. It is the social/emotional and behavioral arm of our Response to Intervention programming. There are 3 tiers of PBIS, just as there are for academic support services: TIER III: Outside Agency Referral, individual and/or small group counseling w/school counselor TIER II: Check-In/Check-Out, Peer Mentoring, Friendship Groups

TIER I: Core instruction based on MiBLSI expectations and lesson plans, CHAMPS

Who provides PBIS services? PBIS services will be coordinated by the PBIS Coordinator. Tier II services will be provided by Safe & Drug Free Schools personnel. Tier III services will be provided by the school-based/health center-based social worker, as well as by outside agency personnel such as DHS, CMH, CHS, Wrap-Around, 3rd Level Crisis Center, etc.

How students will be identified for PBIS support: Any student who receives 2 major behavior referrals will automatically be referred to the PBIS Coordinator through a regular review of SWIS data. Students with a pattern of minors across time may be referred by staff members by submitting a referral for to the PBIS Coordinator. Students may also be identified and referred by outside agencies, i.e. DHS, CMH, CHS, WrapAround, etc.

Student progress within PBIS services: The PBIS Coordinator will screen all referrals and recommend the appropriate intervention(s). The PBIS Team will meet regularly to evaluate student progress and adjust intervention(s) accordingly (currently last Wednesday of each month). Students will progress through tiers of support according to our school-wide Student Intervention Problem-Solving Model. The PBIS team will work closely with teachers and other staff members to provide coaching and support for students on the PBIS caseload.
