Its not too early to sign up for cornflakes summer camp

Its hard to believe, but summer will be here soon. Its not too early to get your three to six year-old kids ready by signing up for Cornflakes Summer Camp. For over 30 years, Cornflakes has been a Winnetka tradition. Kids learn, grow and socialize, all while getting a healthy dose of what every kid wants to do during the summerplaying!

There are two levels of sponsorship for the community to consider: A star 30 inches high is $450 and a 36 inch star is $650. Sponsorship fees are a charitable donation to Winnetka Community House, a 501(c)(3) organization and are fully tax-deductible since they remain the property of the community house until they are auctioned. All sponsors receive public recognition for their sponsorship. For more information, please contact Alana Flatley, Winnetka Community House Director of Development, at (847) 881-9316 or by email at alanaf@winnetkacommunityhouse.org

New WCH ceramics classes

The Community House is offering new ceramics classes along with the favorites this winter and spring. One great class is Down and Dirty, where kids get a little messy while getting creative. Another new addition is Planes, Trains, Cars and Spaceships, a class for kids who want to build models with clay. For adults, Afternoon Handbuilding for the Home is a fun way to socialize and create some great ceramics pieces for the home. See pages 3536 for details on these classes and more!

Benefits of Personal Training

Serious athletes have long used personal trainers to enhance their performance in competition. Movie stars are known to hire personal trainers to keep them fitting into their Oscar gowns. But the people who benefit most from personal training are ordinary men and women seeking to be stronger and function more effectively in their everyday lives. Working with a trainer, anyone can achieve their fitness goals - goals as modest as touching your toes again or as ambitious as preparing to run a marathon. Whether you want to lose weight, regain flexibility, develop speed or simply feel good again, personal training is an activity that you will continue to reap benefits in years to come. Our personal trainers main objectives are to assist, guide and educate those who wish to experience a greater ease and physical ability in their lives.

About Our Karate Program
Traditional Karate is a martial art which emphasizes the principles and applications of weaponless self-defense. Our Karate Program follows a systemized belt ranking for all participants. One must fulfill certain requirements under normal practice conditions and in a test environment to secure progressive promotions up to and including the black belt (dan) levels. When one has acquired a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Karate, he or she can be promoted to the rank of first degree black belt. Uniforms, belt tests and tournaments. are optional and will incur additional costs.

(A DIVISION OF HOOPS4HEALTH)
Master Shi Heng Long is a decorated kung-Fu and Tai-Chi Master. He has taught in many different provinces in China including Bejing, Shanghai, Hebei, Shangdong, and Guangzhou. After coming to the USA in 2007 hes taught at The Chicago Shaolin Temple, Health Kick Kung-Fu, and Energy Fitness. In 2009 he taught at The Shaolin Temple Overseas Headquarters in New York and O-Mei Shaolin Kung-Fu in Washington DC. He has studied martial arts since the age of eight at the Shaolin Temple in China. You may know Kung-Fu because of Bruce Lee. However, it actually dated back thousands of years before him. It is an ancient Chinese martial art that brings self-defense, confidence, discipline and conditioning to its students. We will teach Northern and Southern styles with Shaolin and animal forms. Kung-Fu training includes stances, stretching, conditioning, meditation/relaxation (Tai-Chi) and forms. All classes are always taught in a safe environment. Students through dedicated training can move up in belt levels. In Kung-Fu students start with no belt and have to earn there first belt which is a white belt. There is a criterion that a student must learn to test for a new belt level. Students go at their own pace in belt progression. Receiving the belt is a great symbol of the learning but most of all it is the personal gain in health, mind, body and spirit which is the ultimate satisfaction. Our professional staff of decorated teachers cant wait to share their passion and knowledge of Kung-Fu. Have fun and enjoy entering the world of Kung-Fu! New students are required to purchase a uniform which includes pants, shirt, and shoes ($60). Belt Test ($25, one time fee for each belt, unlimited tries per belt). Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for Winnetka Community House REQUIRES the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please read this form carefully, and be aware in participating in the program(s) listed on this page, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries you might sustain arising out of the activities of this program. Waiver And Release Of All Claims As a participant in the program, I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury, and I agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, including death, damages or loss, regardless of severity, which I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with such program. I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I may have as a result of participating in the program against Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees. I do hereby fully release and discharge Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or loss which I may have or which may accrue to me on account of my participation. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or losses sustained by me or arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program. In the event of emergency, I authorize Winnetka Community House officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services required. All participants agree that any photography taken while participating in a class, special event or use of a facility may be used for promotional purposes Winnetka Community House.
