Winnetka Community House began celebrating 100 Years of Creating Community in November of 2011. As part of the festivities, an Adopt a Star program has been initiated showcasing outdoor star art with three-dimensional pieces (fiberglass sculptures) painted by local artists. All Centennial Stars will be unveiled at the Centennial Gala on Saturday, May 19, 2012. The Stars will then be displayed throughout the Village of Winnetka during the summer of 2012 and auctioned off at the Centennial Closing Event on November 2, 2012.
very popular House Productions events this winter. The 20112012 slate of events include Breakfast With Santa, Family Bingo Night and Movie Night featuring Megamind. A new addition this year is a beer tasting as part of Marchs Wine Tasting.
There are two levels of sponsorship for the community to consider: A star 30 inches high is $450 and a 36 inch star is $650. Sponsorship fees are a charitable donation to Winnetka Community House, a 501(c)(3) organization and are fully tax-deductible since they remain the property of the community house until they are auctioned. All sponsors receive public recognition for their sponsorship. For more information, please contact Alana Flatley, Winnetka Community House Director of Development, at (847) 881-9316 or by email at alanaf@winnetkacommunityhouse.org

In all performance programs attendance is mandatory. A missed practice must be made up on another day. If two practices are missed without a makeup the student will be dismissed from the production. This program requires practice at home. Please practice all singing, dancing, and acting numbers at home. Please be on time to all rehearsals and promptly pick up your child at the end of the rehearsal. Arriving more than 20 minutes late to rehearsal will count as an absence. No parents can watch a rehearsal unless given permission. We feel that children work better when there are no distractions. There will be no refunds after the first rehearsal. Disorderly behavior will result in immediate dismissal from the production. For more information call (847)848-1555.Performances take place at Winnetka Community House. You will receive your performance date and time on the second day of class.

About Our Karate Program
Traditional Karate is a martial art which emphasizes the principles and applications of weaponless self-defense. Our Karate Program follows a systemized belt ranking for all participants. There are 11 belt levels (kyu) before first-degree black belt (shodan). A new student is assigned the white belt rank (eleventh kyu). One must fulfill certain requirements under normal practice conditions and in a test environment to secure progressive promotions up to and including the black belt (dan) levels. When one has acquired a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Karate, he or she can be promoted to the rank of first degree black belt. Uniforms, belt tests and tournaments. are optional and will incur additional costs.
Intermediate Karate

DOG OBEDIENCE
Creative Paws, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Ashlee Trotter, BS, CPDT, and provides group classes and private lessons for dog obedience training and behavior problems. Ashlee uses positive reinforcement training methods to improve the relationship between dog and handler by providing an effective means of communication and understanding. If you would like more information or you are unsure about which class you should take, please contact Ashlee at 847-2125067 or visit www.creativepaws.com. Puppy Class is designed to provide a positive environment for socialization of puppies to a wide variety of people as well as to each other. Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human-directed aggression and dog-dog aggression, as well as anxiety and fear based behavior problems. Additional topics will be discussed such as addressing the common puppy issues of house training, mouthing, leadership and preventing behavior problems. Puppies will also learn sit and begin recall training (coming when called). This class is appropriate for puppies ages 24 months old. Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses.
