About MP3/WMA
CAUTION Except for private use, duplicating audio data (including MP3/ WMA data) or distributing, transferring, or copying it, whether for free or for a fee, without permission of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited by the Copyright Act and by international treaty. What is MP3?
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3) is a compression standard prescribed by the ISO, the International Standardization Organization and MPEG, which is a joint activity institution of the IEC. MP3 files contain compressed audio data. MP3 encoding is capable of compressing audio data at extremely high ratios, reducing the size of music files to as much as one-tenth their original size. This is achieved while still maintaining near CD quality. The MP3 format realizes such high compression ratios by eliminating the sounds that are either inaudible to the human ear or masked by other sounds.
Only files in a folder are played back in random sequence. The files on the disc will be played back in a random sequence. (factory default)
Press M.I.X. again and select OFF to deactivate the M.I.X. play.
Repeat Play
During playback, press REPEAT.
The repeat mode switches each time the button is pressed.
What is WMA?
The file is played repeatedly. Only files in a folder are repeatedly played back. (factory default)
WMA, or Windows Media Audio, is compressed audio data. WMA allows you to create music files and store them at higher ratios of compression than MP3 audio data (approx. half original size). This is achieved while still maintaining CD quality sound.
Press REPEAT again and select OFF to deactivate the repeat play.
Folder/File Search
You can display the names of folders/files and search for a folder/file to play.
Audio data is compressed by using MP3/WMA specified software. For details on creating MP3/WMA files, refer to the user's manual for that software. MP3/WMA files that can be played back by this device have the file extension mp3/rmp, wma. Files with no extension cannot be played back. (WMA ver. 7.1 and 8 are supported)
When there are more than 9 names on the list, 8 or 9 is displayed. Press 8 or 9 to scroll. Press RETURN to deactivate the Search mode.
Media supported
The media that this device can play back are CD-ROMs, CDRs, and CD-RWs.
16-EN
Terminology
Bit rate This is the sound compression rate specified for encoding. The higher the bit rate, the higher the sound quality, but also the larger the files. Sampling rate This value shows how many times per second the data is sampled (recorded). For example, music CDs use a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, so the sound is sampled (recorded) 44,100 times per second. The higher the sampling rate, the higher the sound quality, but also the larger the volume of data. Encoding Converting music CDs, WAVE (AIFF) files, and other sound files into the specified audio compression format. Tag Song information such as track title, artist name, album name, etc., written into MP3/WMA files. MP3: ID3 tag WMA: WMA tag Root folder The root folder is found at the top of the file system. The root folder contains all folders and files.
Formats supported
This device supports CD-ROM XA, Mixed Mode CD, Enhanced CD (CD-Extra) and Multi-Session. This device cannot correctly play back discs recorded with Track At Once or packet writing.
Order of files
The unit plays the files in the order that the writing software writes them. Therefore, the playing order may not be the same as the order you input. The playback order of the folders and files is as follows. However, the folder and file playback order differs from the folder no. and file no. indicated on the display.

About DVDs
Music CDs and DVDs have grooves (tracks) in which the digital data is recorded. The data is represented as microscopic pits recorded into the track these pits are read by a laser beam to play the disc. On DVDs, the density of the tracks and pits is twice that of CDs, so DVDs can contain more data in less space.

A 12 cm disc can contain one movie or about four hours of music. In addition, DVDs provide sharp picture quality with vivid colors thanks to a horizontal resolution of over 500 lines (compared to less than 300 for VHS tape). With the addition of an optional, digital audio processor (PXA-H900, PXA-H510, PXA-H700), you can recreate the power and presence of a movie theater with Dolby Digital 5.1-channel Surround.

Terminology
Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital is a digital audio compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories that allows large quantities of audio data to be efficiently recorded on discs. It is compatible with audio signals from mono (1 channel) all the way up to 5.1-channel surround sound. The signals for the different channels are completely independent, and since the sound is high quality digital there is no loss of sound quality. * The separately sold digital audio processor (PXA-H510, PXAH900, PXA-H700) is required to enjoy full 5.1-channel surround sound. The DVA-5210 performs Dolby Digital decoding when it outputs analog audio signals; 2-channel audio, not 5.1channel.

Warning
MAKE THE CORRECT CONNECTIONS.
Failure to make the proper connections may result in fire or product damage.
BEFORE WIRING, DISCONNECT THE CABLE FROM THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock or injury due to electrical shorts.
Precautions
Be sure to disconnect the cable from the () battery post before installing your DVA-5210. This will reduce any chance of damage to the unit in case of a short-circuit. Be sure to connect the color coded leads according to the diagram. Incorrect connections may cause the unit to malfunction or damage to the vehicle's electrical system. When making connections to the vehicle's electrical system, be aware of the factory installed components (e.g. on-board computer). Do not tap into these leads to provide power for this unit. When connecting the DVA-5210 to the fuse box, make sure the fuse for the intended circuit of the DVA-5210 has the appropriate amperage. Failure to do so may result in damage to the unit and/or the vehicle. When in doubt, consult your ALPINE dealer. The DVA-5210 uses female RCA-type jacks for connection to other units (e.g. amplifier) having RCA connectors. You may need an adaptor to connect other units. If so, please contact your authorized ALPINE dealer for assistance.
DO NOT USE BOLTS OR NUTS IN THE BRAKE OR STEERING SYSTEMS TO MAKE GROUND CONNECTIONS.
Bolts or nuts used for the brake or steering systems (or any other safety-related system), or tanks should NEVER be used for installations or ground connections. Using such parts could disable control of the vehicle and cause fire, etc.
