POPULATION DATAS OF AKYAB DISTRICT

( ETHNIC & RELIGION WISE )

TOWNSHIPWISE MUSLIMS POPULATION OF AKYAB DISTRICT

Akyab Dist. Buddhists population in 1872 was 1,76,576 and 1901 was 2,80649. The increase in 10 years is 1,04, 071. The Buddhists population in 1911 is 3,01,617 and the in 10 year it was increase to 29,968. In the same period Mahomedan population in 1872 was 58,255 and in 1901 was 1,54,432 and the increase was 96,177 in 10 years. Again Mahomedan population in 1911 was 1,78,647 and the increase was 24,215. As the Rakhines are accusing that the Muslims ( Mahomedan ) population has increased abnormally after British occupation of Arakan in 1824, but from the above comparisons Buddhist population increase also like Muslim population. As per statement of Sr. Arthur Phayre , the Arakansese people ( Buddhists and Muslims ) who fled during occupation Burmese King Bow Daw Paya had gradually returned to their ancestral homeland Arakan from Bengal. It was reported that about 200 hundred thousands had fled from Arakan to Bengal. I have given the population chart of 1973 and 1983 in two charts because the BSPP Govt. of Ne Win and the Arakan State Council shown the total population Township-wise as percentage growth of population in Arakan State. To mislead readers that Maungdaw and Buthidaug Township population had highest growth of population in Arakan. But in actual data, it show that Punnaguan Township had highest growth of population 46.08 %, second highest was Maybon Township 31.49% , third highest was Ann Township 21.17% and the fourth was Maungdaw Township 25.11%, the fifth highest was Pauktaw Township 25.09% and the Buthidaung Township growth was 13.43%. The Military Govt. and Rakhine are still claiming that the Rohingya has highest growth of population in the townships of Maungdaw and Buthidaung in Arakan. The highest population density is Akyab Township. Ashraf Alam
