Analysis of CET - 2005

This year’s CET was tougher than usual. Visual Reasoning ruled the roost
and not much could have been scored in this area as the questions were
really tough. Quantitative Ability questions were difficult to spot. The
Verbal section was the score builder. Questions on "fill up the blanks" were
moderate and less time consuming. Data Interpretation questions were
simple but calculative. Two caselets on Analytical Reasoning were easy.
There was a single passage from Reading Comprehension which was easy to
crack. Questions based on coding, decoding, blood relation etc. were simpler
and easy to crack. There were 5 questions based on arrangement of
sentences which were easy. Syllogisms were simple and were scoring.
Deductive Reasoning questions were confusing but manageable. Data
sufficiency and Quantitative Comparison was easy.

As expected this year also CET did not show any major shift from its
previous year patterns. As the tradition of CET goes, the Reasoning
Questions were maximum in number.

Students who are not good at Problem Solving but good at Verbal Ability
were blessed as the paper had very few questions on Problem Solving which
were of moderate difficulty and the Verbal Ability Questions were very
easy.

The Grammar and Vocabulary based questions were of average difficulty

level.

Questions on Visual Reasoning, which has been a salient feature of CET,

were difficult and hard on the eye. The Data Interpretation Questions had
very close answer options making approximation difficult and one had no
other option than to calculate the answers. There were a few sitters in the
paper but one had to follow the strategy of smart browsing to locate them.
Smart preparation with enough practice of paper pattern of CET would
definitely get one in the best college.
